Minnesota Vikings
12-10 Chicago Bears Cairo Santos converts a late game-winning field goal for the Minnesota Vikings, as Josh Dobbs tosses four interceptions.
Josh Dobbs gets intercepted four times as the Minnesota Vikings lose 12-10 to the Chicago Bears, giving the game’s only score to TJ Hockenson; Justin Fields throws for 217 yards and runs for 59 yards.
Justin Fields fumbled twice in the fourth quarter, but with superb protection on third-and-10 near midfield, he hit D.J. Moore for 36 yards to the 13, setting up the game-winning kick. The Bears (4-8) snapped a 12-game losing streak in the NFC North, including six straight against the Vikings (6-6).
The Vikings, who elected to rest star wide out Justin Jefferson with a hamstring ailment for another game, had only a field goal by Greg Joseph at the conclusion of the first half to show for the opening 54-plus minutes.
With 5:54 remaining, Dobbs delivered the game-winning touchdown pass to T.J. Hockenson, but the Vikings stalled out again at the worst possible time.
Following Fields’ first down, Josh Metellus jarred the ball loose, which Anthony Barr recovered at the Chicago 43.
The Vikings ran for no gain and one yard before losing a yard on a screen pass, and Ryan Wright then punted out of bounds for only 26 yards, giving the Bears the ball at their 22 instead of being pinned deep. There were only 59 seconds left on the clock.
Leaders in statistics:
The Chicago Bears
Justin Fields is a passer. 27/37, 217 yards
Justin Fields had 12 carries for 59 yards.
DJ Moore, 11 receptions, 114 yards
Vikings of Minnesota
Passing: Joshua Dobbs, 22/32, 185 yards, 1 touchdown, 4 interceptions.
Alexander Mattison had 10 carries for 52 yards.
TJ Hockenson, 5 catches, 50 yards, 1 touchdown
For the second straight game, the Bears forced four turnovers after blowing a 12-point lead with roughly three minutes left in last week’s loss at Detroit. The interceptions were made by Jaylon Johnson, Jaquan Brisker, T.J. Edwards, and Kyler Gordon, who all came off deflected passes.
Gordon’s diving catch with 12:32 remaining and a 9-3 lead gave the Bears possession at the Minnesota 38. Five plays later, Danielle Hunter dislodged the ball during a sack that Sheldon Day recovered at the Minnesota 23. Hunter’s takedown of Fields in Chicago on October 15 dislocated the quarterback’s thumb and sidelined him for the next five games.
The Vikings turned the ball over in eight plays for only their second drive of more than 30 yards all day, and the Bears were on the verge of another late collapse.
