Netflix Announces Landmark Documentary Series on Synthpop Legends Erasure

Netflix is set to shine a spotlight on one of the most influential duos in pop history with the upcoming release of Electric Heart: The Story of Erasure — a compelling new documentary series exploring the legacy of synthpop icons Andy Bell and Vince Clarke.

Slated for a global premiere later this year, the four-part series will chronicle Erasure’s groundbreaking journey from underground club favorites to international chart-toppers. With a career spanning over four decades, Erasure became known not just for their infectious melodies and synth-driven anthems like “A Little Respect,” “Sometimes,” and “Love to Hate You,” but also for their bold visibility and unapologetic authenticity.

Directed by Emmy-nominated filmmaker Lucy Forbes (This Is Going to Hurt), Electric Heart combines never-before-seen archival footage, intimate new interviews, and behind-the-scenes access that brings fans closer than ever to the heart of the duo’s creative and personal worlds. The series also features guest appearances from music legends including Boy George, Robyn, Neil Tennant (Pet Shop Boys), and Alison Moyet, who reflect on Erasure’s indelible impact on pop culture and LGBTQ+ visibility.

“Erasure has always been about truth — emotional truth, musical truth, personal truth,” said Andy Bell. “This documentary is our chance to look back at the journey, celebrate the highs, reflect on the lows, and thank the fans who’ve stayed with us all these years.”

Vince Clarke, whose songwriting and production talents also helped shape Depeche Mode and Yazoo, added: “We’ve never really told our full story. This series is not just about music — it’s about connection, survival, and the joy of creation.”

Beyond the music, Electric Heart delves into Erasure’s pivotal role in queer visibility during the ’80s and ’90s, their activism during the HIV/AIDS crisis, and their resilience through shifting musical landscapes. Through personal reflections and cultural commentary, the series paints a vivid portrait of two artists who defied expectations and built a legacy of inclusivity, empowerment, and innovation.

Set against a rich sonic backdrop and visual archive, the series promises to be as stylish, emotional, and dynamic as Erasure’s own performances. Each episode runs approximately 50 minutes, offering fans and newcomers alike a fresh and poignant look at the band that redefined pop.

Electric Heart: The Story of Erasure premieres globally on Netflix this fall. Keep an eye out for the official trailer release in the coming weeks.
