Heavy metal icon Philip Anselmo is trading his microphone for a new kind of stage — the silver screen. The legendary former frontman of Pantera and Down is set to headline Black Fang, a supernatural action-thriller slated for release in 2026. The project marks Anselmo’s first major foray into acting, and true to his persona, it’s a role drenched in darkness, intensity, and feral rage.
In Black Fang, Anselmo plays Vincent Kade, a reclusive ex-soldier burdened by grief and tormented by a supernatural curse. After witnessing the brutal murder of his wife at the hands of a demonic crime syndicate, Kade undergoes a terrifying transformation — cursed to become a panther under the moonlight. This new form grants him inhuman strength, heightened senses, and a thirst for vengeance. But the line between justice and monstrosity blurs as Kade hunts down the evil forces infecting his decaying city.
The film is being directed by indie horror auteur Lena Crowhurst, known for her gritty, psychological storytelling and eerie visual style. In a statement, Crowhurst said, “Philip brings a primal intensity that can’t be taught. Black Fang is a visceral story about rage, redemption, and embracing the monster within. I couldn’t imagine anyone else embodying Vincent Kade.”
The screenplay, written by Dominic Wells, weaves together themes of urban decay, inner demons, and supernatural justice, drawing inspiration from classic gothic horror and ‘90s antihero action flicks. With an atmosphere reminiscent of The Crow and Blade, the film promises a visually striking and emotionally charged experience.
Anselmo himself has expressed excitement over the role, noting that Black Fang speaks to “the darker corners of the soul, where pain and power collide.” He added, “This character is raw, wounded, and angry. I know that place. I’ve lived it. I want to give it everything I’ve got.”
The film will also feature an original soundtrack blending industrial metal, doom rock, and haunting orchestral arrangements — with Anselmo contributing both as a performer and producer. Early teasers hint at a brooding, blood-soaked journey that mirrors the inner turmoil of its lead character.
Black Fang is currently in pre-production, with principal photography set to begin early next year. Fans of heavy music, supernatural thrillers, and morally complex heroes won’t want to miss this gritty evolution of Philip Anselmo — not just as a musician, but as a force of cinematic vengeance.
