Wout van Aert Reflects on Fatherhood and Praises Wife Sarah De Bie for Her Support

Belgian cycling sensation Wout van Aert is not only making headlines for his performances on the road but also for the joy and gratitude he’s expressed in his personal life. The 29-year-old champion recently opened up about becoming a father for the second time and the emotional depth that comes with balancing his career and his growing family.

Van Aert, known for his grit and versatility across road, cyclo-cross, and time trial disciplines, became a father of two earlier this year. In a heartfelt interview during a media event ahead of the Tour de France, he spoke candidly about how fatherhood has reshaped his world and the unwavering role his wife, Sarah De Bie, plays behind the scenes.

“Being a father of two is humbling. It slows you down—in a good way,” Van Aert shared. “There’s this moment when you’re holding your child, and the world just stops. Nothing else matters. Not the race, not the podium—just them.”

Van Aert and De Bie welcomed their first child in 2021, and earlier this year, they celebrated the birth of their second. Though fiercely private about their children’s lives, Van Aert did not hold back in expressing admiration and love for his wife.

“I couldn’t do any of this without Sarah,” he said warmly. “She’s the one holding everything together when I’m away at training camps, races, or injured. She’s the real champion. Her strength, patience, and love are what keep our home grounded.”

He continued, “Every day I come home from a race or a hard day on the bike, and I’m greeted not with stats or strategy—but with hugs, bedtime stories, and a partner who always has my back. That’s the real win.”

Van Aert also addressed the emotional complexity of being away from his young children during important competitions. “There’s guilt, sometimes. You miss moments. But we try to make the moments we do have count. That’s why every finish line means more now—it’s not just for me anymore.”

Despite a demanding racing calendar, Van Aert has been seen taking every opportunity to spend time with his family, often bringing them along to races and sharing quiet, joyful moments off the bike.

His message to Sarah De Bie, delivered through both words and deeds, is clear: her support isn’t just appreciated—it’s foundational. As Wout van Aert continues to chase glory in the peloton, it’s the love and strength of his family that remains his greatest source of pride.
