Sean Dyche reacts to the question of whether Arnaut Danjuma will leave Everton in the January transfer window.
Sean Dyche remained tight-lipped about whether Arnaut Danjuma’s loan term at Everton could be cut short.
The forward joined the Toffees in the summer transfer window from Villarreal, having turned down a move to Goodison Park in January to join Tottenham Hotspur.
Danjuma, on the other hand, has been on the outside of Dyche’s squad this season. He has appeared in 12 games in all competitions, scoring one goal, but has only started three Premier League games. Furthermore, the Dutchman has been benched in five of the Blues’ past six games. Dwight McNeil and Jack Harrison have been the preferred wide options, while Lewis Dobbin came off the bench – and scored – in the 2-0 win against Chelsea last weekend.
Danjuma’s lack of game time has some fans speculating if his loan deal would be terminated early in the January transfer window. When approached about the subject ahead of Saturday’s trip to Burnley by LiverpoolWorld, Dyche refused to comment. He did, however, explain his reasoning for making substitutions.
“We’ll see about all that,” Everton manager David Moyes stated. As you are aware, we have a somewhat small squad.
“These are decisions that must be made. People talk a lot about subs these days; when, why don’t you make more, why don’t you make less, and all that. You’re at a point in time when you and your team are looking at a game and wondering, ‘What does this mean?’
“Every footballer has a slightly different style, some radically so, and on this occasion we just felt it was appropriate to bring Lewis on.” That doesn’t mean it won’t be Arnie the next time. These are decisions that must be made quickly. Sometimes you’re correct, sometimes you’re not.”
