A Chelsea player has targeted Jamie Carragher after the former Liverpool defender suggested that the Blues would not have the “character and personality” to secure Champions League football.
After his team secured a 1-0 victory over fellow contenders Nottingham Forest, Enzo Maresca secured Champions League qualification in his first season in command at Stamford Bridge, making it a weekend to remember.
Maresca was evidently pleased with his team’s performance on Sunday, and following the full-time siren, the Italian delivered a not-so-subtle message to those who questioned his team.
“I had no reservations regarding the players,” he stated. “The uncertainty originated from external sources.” The individuals who possess the answers or the truth were expressing that we are too immature and not talented enough to win the Champions League. They were anticipating that Aston Villa would lose points in order for us to qualify.
“They were claiming that we were unable to prevail on this field due to our youth and lack of experience.”
