Chris Sutton shares what he knows amid claims Celtic board sign players, not Brendan Rodgers

Well, that’s an afternoon everyone wants to forget!

After the joyous and uplifting scenes of midweek which saw Celtic record a long-awaited win in the Champions League.

Things turned very ugly on Saturday, as the team fell to a quite dreadful and abject 2-0 defeat to Hearts.

Chants of ‘Sack the board’ rung around Parkhead, as the Celtic faithful expressed their anger and frustration at the powers that be.

Chris Sutton was told by a Celtic fan on BBC Radio 5 Live’s 606 programme that it was the board, led by Peter Lawwell, who purchased the players this summer, not Brendan Rodgers.

But that’s something Chris Sutton dismissed and stated ‘to my knowledge’, Brendan Rodgers has agreed to all the players coming in.

On several occasions now, Brendan has expressed the need for new players, not project-type ones to come in, which is the exact type you would argue that were brought in this summer.

Celtic fan: “They are not even his signings. They are Peter Lawwell’s signings.”

Sutton responded: “Well, you say that. But, to my knowledge, Brendan signs all the players off. They are Brendan’s signings.”

Celtic fan added: “Well, I would have to disagree. To me, the board buy the players and they tell Brendan to manage them.”

Celtic’s performances

When you go from watching a team play this aggressive, 100 miles per hour and all-action style, and win a Treble to go with it.

And then watch a new manager come in and seemingly do everything in slow motion, then fans have the right to be annoyed, especially when there is around £70 million in the bank.

These back-to-back defeats in the league have come at the wrong time and the only saving grace is that there isn’t another game until next Saturday.

This just allows everything to calm down slightly, but you can bet your bottom dollar that the fans will express their feelings again when Livingston come to town, regardless of the performance or the result.
