Brazilian death metal powerhouse Crypta has added a major accolade to their growing legacy, taking home the prestigious All-Women Brazilian Metal Band Award at this year’s Brazilian Metal Excellence Awards. The honor marks a significant milestone not only for the band but for the broader representation of women in heavy metal across Latin America.
Formed in 2019, Crypta is composed entirely of fierce female musicians: Fernanda Lira (vocals and bass), Luana Dametto (drums), Tainá Bergamaschi (guitar), and Jéssica di Falchi (guitar). Known for their brutal riffs, aggressive stage presence, and technical mastery, Crypta has quickly risen to prominence in the global metal scene, earning critical acclaim for their albums Echoes of the Soul and Shades of Sorrow.
The All-Women Brazilian Metal Band Award, presented in São Paulo during a night that celebrated the finest in the country’s heavy music scene, is given to outstanding female-led bands that exemplify innovation, musicianship, and impact in metal. Crypta was lauded for not only breaking sonic boundaries but for challenging longstanding gender norms in a traditionally male-dominated genre.
In her acceptance speech, frontwoman Fernanda Lira said:
“This award is a victory not just for us, but for every girl out there who dreams of picking up a guitar, screaming her truth, and taking the stage. Metal belongs to everyone. We are honored to represent the voice of fierce women in this community.”
Crypta’s success reflects a changing landscape in heavy music, where more women are taking center stage and redefining what it means to be metal. Their sound is rooted in old-school death metal, inspired by bands like Death, Obituary, and Morbid Angel, but they inject it with a fresh energy and perspective that makes them truly stand out.
Since their debut, Crypta has toured internationally, playing major metal festivals in Europe and South America, and earning praise from fans and critics alike for their explosive performances and tight musicianship. They have also become role models for aspiring female metal artists, promoting empowerment, authenticity, and solidarity.
Winning this award cements their status as trailblazers in the Brazilian and global metal community. It’s a recognition of their talent, their fight for space, and their unwavering dedication to their craft.
As Crypta continues to rise, their message rings louder than ever: metal has no gender, and women have every right to shred, growl, and command the stage. With this victory, they’ve proven once again that they’re not just part of the scene—they’re leading it.
