Everton have announced a later move-in date for their new £760 million dockside stadium, and they will depart Goodison Park after 134 years.
Everton have stated that they will play the entire season at Goodison Park next season, rather than moving to their new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock halfway through the season.
The £760m stadium, which will seat 52,888 people, is still on schedule to be completed by the end of 2024, but Everton have decided not to relocate during the season.
Everton conferred with fans and announced that they will not play in the new Merseyside waterfront arena until 2025-26 for a variety of commercial, logistical, and footballing reasons. As part of their preparation, they will hold test events in front of various crowd sizes.
Goodison Park has been the home of Everton since 1892, has hosted more Premier League games than any other stadium in England, and was one of the locations for the 1966 World Cup. Everton plan a “year-long celebration” of one of the country’s most iconic grounds.
“To be absolutely clear, our decision not to move in mid-season is not due to a construction delay,” Everton interim CEO Colin Chong said. It is a club decision based on a combination of commercial insight, a thorough review of the logistics involved, an assessment of the potential impact on our football operations, and, most importantly, fan feedback gathered as part of our recent stadium migration survey, which was completed by nearly 10,000 Evertonians. Everton Stadium is still on target to be finished in the final weeks of 2024, as planned.
“The 2024-25 season will be our final at Goodison Park.” By the time we close the gates for the final time, Goodison Park will have been our home for nearly 134 years, with many supporters emphasizing their wish to give the Grand Old Lady a proper send-off.
“For some time now, the club has been planning a series of events, tours, and celebrations to pay tribute to one of the world’s most iconic and well-known stadiums.” We already know that Goodison’s goodbye will be a year-long celebration.”
