Everton has ‘knocked on the door’ of the agent of Salernitana striker Boulaye Dia ahead of the January transfer window, as the Italian club is looking to sell.

According to Sport del Sud, who relayed information from Il Mattino, Everton is one of numerous clubs who have contacted the striker’s agent.

According to the newspaper, Salernitana must sell players and ‘raise cash’ before they can function in the January transfer window, and Dia is one of the players they may want to sell.

Everton is one of the teams that has ‘already knocked on the agent’s door’ to inquire about the player, whose current asking price is €22 million.
Since the summer, when he sought to join Wolves late in the transfer window, even going on strike, the striker has been linked with a move abroad.

It didn’t, and he had to spend time away from the club until the matter was settled and he returned, but the club’s president reopened the case this week by stating that he will sell anyone who doesn’t want to be at the club.

These remarks were made in conjunction with a claim that Dia now has a clause in his contract that allows him to join a Premier League club for €21 million if a bid is made.

Thus, a deal may be simple for Everton if they so desire, however it is highly unlikely they have €21 million to spend or would be allowed to do so given claims they are sailing close to the wind in terms of acceptable losses after their 10-point deduction this season.

A loan transaction would make much more sense and be more financially viable, but whether Salernitana would do such a deal given their own need for cash is unknown.

In any case, Everton are still thought to be interested in a player they were apparently interested in last summer before buying Beto from Udinese.
