Honestly’… Paul Parker shares his true feelings about £8m Celtic transfer rumour
The rumour that Celtic are interested in signing £8m rated attacker Mathias Kvistgaarden hit the headlines again this week as Brendan Rodgers looks to add to his forward line in January.
The 21-year-old has been on Celtic’s radar since the summer and the news that Rodgers is looking to bring him to Parkhead has, strangely, piqued the interest of former Manchester United midfielder, Paul Parker.
The legendary United man seems to have an issue with Celtic taking the top talent from the Danish league and has urged the youngster to stay where he is.
Parker said [Daily Record], “I am sure that every top club in Denmark would be disappointed if their best players left the club just to go to Celtic and play in the Scottish league.
“The Danish league is more competitive than the Scottish one. I remember some pretty impressive results in Europe from some Danish teams and with the way FC Copenhagen have played in this Champions League campaign, despite being third in the league, it tells me that the league is pretty strong, when you take their budget, versus the other clubs, into consideration. The Scottish League used to be a good springboard to the Premier League.
“But right now, I would honestly not prefer playing in the Scottish league over the Danish one.”
Parker seems to have his wires crossed here. The Scottish League is still a great pathway to the English Premier League.
Look at the likes of Kieran Tierney, Odsonne Edouard, Ryan Christie and Virgil van Dijk who have all moved from Paradise and got their big money move off the back of Celtic’s successes.
Quite why Parker feels the need to put his two bob’s worth is quite bemusing. If Kvistgaarden does make the switch to Celtic he has every chance of making his next big move but only if he produces, like others have, on the park.
