Man City’s FFP inquiry has been updated, while Arsenal awaits a judgment on point deduction.

After the Premier League announced a 10-point deduction for Everton last week, all eyes are on Manchester City’s ongoing Financial Fair Play investigation. The Toffees were found guilty of violating financial standards by an independent Commission, with the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSRs) being violated.

City was charged with 115 allegations in February of this year, which they deny, following a five-year probe that lasted from 2009 to 2018. Meanwhile, reports surfaced earlier this month that former Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich used offshore businesses to pay for services during his time at the club.

The west London club has not been charged as of yet, but it remains to be seen what would happen if an investigation is launched. There have even been accusations that if proven guilty, City or Chelsea may be docked more points than Everton, with some even calling for relegation.

However, The Athletic’s David Ornstein has pointed out that City’s costs are not the same as the Toffees’. “We must talk about the fact that the cases involving Manchester City and Chelsea are not the same as Everton’s,” Ornstein said on the Sky Bet-sponsored Stick to Football podcast.

“Everyone is saying that Manchester City must be relegated if found guilty, but we don’t know because they are not charged with the same things.” When asked why it was taking so long, Ornstein responded, “Playing devil’s advocate, Everton admitted their wrongdoing, it’s in the report, and so they complied to say let’s get this over with.”

“Manchester City strongly deny any wrongdoing and claim to have irrefutable evidence.” (Where?) We don’t know where the independent panel is since they are waiting for the Premier League to file the case.

“It will be a tough legal battle, and some speculate that it may have been easier to take on Everton and their lawyers than it will be with Manchester City.” They already went through the UEFA process for Financial Fair Play because it was time-barred, but the Premier League does not.

“However, you don’t know whether Manchester City would have been found guilty of the things that were time-barred.” This is significantly more involved, and if you thought Everton’s case with one charge required tens of thousands of pages of documentation, imagine Manchester City’s case with 115 charges.

“We should note that many of them were for alleged non-cooperation, but Manchester City will say, ‘We don’t believe in the process or the people running it, and we don’t believe we have been given a fair hearing.'” Many of those 115 accusations are repeated each season, which could be considered harsher, but it demonstrates the complexities of the situation.”

Manchester United star Gary Neville also commented on the subject, criticizing the Premier League for docking Everton up to ten points.

“Everton’s trust and faith [in the Premier League] has completely vanished,” the former England international added. Greed and selfishness are out of control – they are lawless.

“The Premier League is a defunct organization because it has 20 clubs all voting selfishly.” This has been a long time coming. The Super League clubs that attempted to ruin European football were fined a total of £22 million, £3.5 million for each team, which is an awful disgrace and a scandal for what they intended to do, which was to butcher our game.”

City presently leads the league table by one point, one point ahead of Liverpool and Arsenal, who are second and third, respectively, with the Reds having a better goal difference.
