Mark Wilson reacts to what he’s hearing about Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers, says ‘there is no way’

A sense of calmness needs to be poured over Celtic’s current issues because the blood pressures are high after the defeat to Hearts.

For the first time in a decade, Celtic have lost back-to-back Scottish Premiership games, which has just added pressure on the players and Brendan Rodgers himself.

Mark Wilson was on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard when some Celtic fans phoned in and expressed that they want Brendan Rodgers to be sacked.

But the former Bhoys man was having none of it by starting ‘there is just no way’ that should happen and how ‘I can’t get my head around this’.

Mark Wilson was keen to point out that Celtic are still top of the Scottish Premiership table and Brendan Rodgers has only been in the job ‘four or five months’.

Many were left surprised when the Northern Irishman returned to Parkhead in the summer, because he had already dominated Scotland.

But now that he is back, it’s not going as well as he would have liked, but patience is needed.

Mark Wilson defends Brendan Rodgers

“Certainly not (at this stage), responded Wilson on calls for Rodgers’ head. “There is just no way.

“What is he four or five months into his second spell?! He is sitting five points clear, whichever way you frame it, with Rangers having two games in hand. That is fine. But one of those games will come in January.

“It must be the earliest time to pull the plug, to save your season, when you are on top of the league. I have never heard that before.

“This, I just can’t get my head around this, ‘the need to act quickly. Rangers acted quickly under Beale’. Surely, anybody can tell the difference between Celtic, at the minute, at the top of the league where Michael Beale was against Aberdeen. Surely that’s an easy thing to see. I just don’t think you should sack Rodgers.”

Time for Celtic board to step up

Yes, Rodgers needs to take massive responsibility because he is the one on the training ground every day.

And the players themselves have constantly been called out for their poor performances, yet nothing seems to be changing.

Going through one ear and coming out of the other. How many times does Rodgers have to come out and say ‘he was angry at this or that…’

This is where the powers that be at Celtic need to step up, get rid of the unwanted and then use that space to properly back Rodgers.
