Neil Lennon shares what has ‘surprised’ him about Brendan Rodgers since Celtic return

Neil Lennon has expressed his ‘surprise’ at Brendan Rodgers not showcasing his tactical flexibility at Celtic.

Before Celtic lost back-to-back Scottish Premiership matches, the signs were there that the performances just weren’t to the standard required.

A lot of cracks were papered over, before they were exposed by Kilmarnock and Hearts. The latter was more brutal because it was in front of the Celtic fans.

One issue Neil Lennon wanted to raise is why Brendan Rodgers isn’t changing formation, such as playing two up top, as he queried on PLZ Soccer.

It was pointed out that the Celtic boss showcased that flexibility at his previous club, Leicester City, on a number of occasions.

And now it’s high time he did it at Parkhead because he now needs it.

Brendan Rodgers’ tactics at Celtic

“If the style isn’t working, he is flexible, Brendan, he can go to a back three,” said Lennon. “Talking about the lack of support for Kyogo, maybe go 3-5-2 for a few games.

“The players are flexible and adaptable. Sometimes it’s good to change it. They have the players and quality to do that. They might just give the opposition something else to think about.

“I am not saying you stay with that the whole way. But sometimes it’s good to freshen things up when you are just starting to become that easy to play against. Teams have started to get the better of you or work out your 4-3-3 or your 4-3-2-1.

“I am surprised he hasn’t done that already. I saw him do it with Leicester on many occasions. The bottom line is that he is a top manager. He has been over the course and distance before.”

Kyogo Furuhashi and Hyeongyu Oh starting together

That’s something Rodgers hasn’t tried and fans would like to see because goalscoring has proven to be an issue.

Kyogo and Oh have been in and out of the side of late, and in truth, it hasn’t helped either player’s form.

Rodgers has previously stated that he is willing to play the duo together, so why not start against Livingston on Saturday?

For the first time in a long while, Celtic aren’t playing in midweek, so in a strange way, it helps that the team can rest, from that perspective and prepare for what is now a very important final ten or so days of December.
