Canadian rock legend Neil Peart, the virtuoso drummer and lyricist of Rush, will soon be commemorated with a life-size bronze statue in Victoria Park, one of London, Ontario’s most iconic green spaces. The tribute marks a lasting celebration of Peart’s impact on music, literature, and Canadian cultural identity.
Set to be unveiled on October 7, 2025, the statue will depict Peart in his prime—sticks in hand, mid-motion, surrounded by symbolic design elements referencing both his intricate drum work and poetic lyrics. It will stand near the park’s bandstand, a fitting location that has hosted live music for over a century.
Commissioned by the City of London and designed by acclaimed sculptor Heather Jansen, the monument is part of a larger initiative to honor Canadian legends who shaped international art and music. Peart, who passed away in 2020 after a private battle with glioblastoma, is widely regarded as one of the greatest drummers in rock history.
“Neil wasn’t just a drummer,” said London Mayor Josh Morgan. “He was a storyteller, a seeker, a thinker. His words and rhythms continue to inspire people of all ages. This statue ensures his story will be part of our public memory.”
Victoria Park, located in downtown London, offers both visibility and reverence—its wide paths and historic ambiance attracting thousands of visitors annually. The statue will be part of a new Legacy Grove, which will include commemorative plaques quoting Peart’s lyrics and selections from his travel writings.
The unveiling ceremony will be accompanied by a public celebration featuring tribute performances from Canadian rock bands, a local student drumline showcase, and guest speakers from the music industry. Rush members Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson are expected to attend and participate in a ceremonial ribbon-cutting.
In addition to being a musical icon, Peart was also known for his love of literature, philosophy, and long-distance motorcycle travel. All these aspects of his identity will be reflected in the surrounding installation—integrating his personal journey with the artistic legacy he left behind.
“Neil gave us more than beats and words—he gave us ideas to live by,” said Jansen. “This statue will capture not just his likeness, but his spirit.”
For fans around the world, the tribute will serve as both a pilgrimage site and a reminder that genius, humility, and curiosity can live in harmony.
