Netflix has officially announced a new documentary series titled Fallen Angel: The Amy Lee Story, chronicling the life, career, and legacy of Amy Lee, the iconic frontwoman of rock band Evanescence. The multi-part series is set to premiere in early 2026 and promises a raw, intimate look at one of the most enigmatic and influential voices in modern rock music.
The announcement comes at a time of renewed interest in Lee’s career, following Evanescence’s recent record-breaking European tour and a resurgence in popularity among younger fans rediscovering early 2000s alternative music. With her ethereal vocals, gothic style, and emotionally charged lyrics, Amy Lee has long stood out as a singular force in the music industry — and now, her story will be told in full.
According to Netflix, Fallen Angel will explore not only Lee’s rise to fame with the release of Evanescence’s 2003 breakout album Fallen, but also her personal struggles, artistic battles, and tireless commitment to authenticity in an often rigid and commercial industry.
“Amy Lee is more than just a voice — she’s a visionary, a survivor, and a pioneer,” said executive producer Dana Simmons in a press release. “This series is about the woman behind the music, and the incredible journey that brought her here.”
The documentary will feature never-before-seen home videos, behind-the-scenes tour footage, unreleased demo recordings, and exclusive interviews with Lee, her bandmates, music collaborators, and close family and friends. It will also delve into her role as a composer, mental health advocate, and trailblazer for women in the rock and metal genres.
Amy Lee, who is closely involved in the project, shared her thoughts on the documentary via Instagram:
“This isn’t just my story — it’s the story of every artist who’s ever felt out of place, every girl who’s ever been told she can’t scream, write, or lead. I’m excited (and nervous!) to open the vault and share this part of me with the world.”
Directed by award-winning filmmaker Lisa Moreno (Rise of the Riot Grrrls), Fallen Angel aims to be both a celebration and a reckoning — a deep dive into the beauty and darkness that shaped Lee’s music and message.
With Netflix continuing its tradition of compelling music documentaries (Miss Americana, WHAM!, Homecoming), Fallen Angel: The Amy Lee Story is poised to be a must-watch for fans and newcomers alike. Whether you grew up with “Bring Me to Life” or discovered her through a recent playlist, this series will shine a powerful light on an artist who turned pain into poetry — and never backed down.
