Netflix has announced a new original documentary series, “Electric Soul: The Andy Taylor Story”, a powerful and unfiltered look at the life, music, and resilience of iconic guitarist Andy Taylor, best known for his role in shaping the sound of Duran Duran and 1980s rock music. The series is set to premiere globally in November 2025.
From sold-out stadiums to personal battles behind the scenes, Electric Soul delves deep into Taylor’s influential career, tracing his journey from a working-class upbringing in northeastern England to global fame, and ultimately, to his courageous battle with terminal prostate cancer.
The series is being helmed by Asif Kapadia, the Academy Award-winning director of Amy and Senna, and produced by Pulse Films. It will feature rare archival footage, behind-the-scenes moments, and deeply personal interviews with Andy Taylor, his family, and close collaborators including Simon Le Bon, John Taylor, Nick Rhodes, and others from the Duran Duran era and beyond.
“Andy’s story is about more than rock ‘n’ roll,” said Kapadia. “It’s about grit, heart, and the cost of fame. This isn’t just a music doc—it’s a human story of passion, pain, and persistence.”
Taylor, 64, first came to prominence in the early 1980s as one of the founding members of Duran Duran, blending punk energy with synth-pop innovation. He later branched out with The Power Station and successful solo work, proving his versatility as a guitarist and songwriter. In 2022, he revealed he had been diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer, a revelation that shocked fans and fellow musicians alike.
In a statement, Taylor shared why he agreed to the project:
“This isn’t just about me—it’s about the music, the friendships, the fights, the fallout, and finding peace. If my story helps someone else keep going, then it’s worth telling.”
The docuseries also explores Taylor’s brief but emotional reunion with Duran Duran following their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction in 2022, marking a poignant chapter in a storied legacy.
“Electric Soul: The Andy Taylor Story” is set to debut on Netflix in November, with an official trailer expected later this month.
