Netflix has officially announced an upcoming documentary series chronicling the life, voice, and evolution of Tatiana Shmayluk — the fierce frontwoman of Ukrainian metal band Jinjer and one of the most dynamic vocalists in modern heavy music. Titled Tatiana: Voice of the Storm, the series is slated for global release in Spring 2026.
Directed by acclaimed music documentarian Sam Dunn (Metal: A Headbanger’s Journey, Super Duper Alice Cooper), the multi-part docuseries promises an unflinching look into the rise of a metal icon who defied genre, geography, and gender expectations to become a voice of rebellion and resilience.
In a press statement, Netflix describes the series as “a visceral portrait of artistic fire in a time of personal and political upheaval. From underground clubs to global festival stages, Tatiana’s story is one of fearless self-expression and survival.”
Tatiana Shmayluk rose to prominence as the frontwoman of Jinjer, the Ukrainian metalcore/progressive groove band known for its genre-defying sound and razor-sharp musicianship. Her vocal range — seamlessly shifting from soulful melodies to brutal guttural growls — quickly gained her international recognition. Songs like “Pisces” and “Judgement (& Punishment)” have become anthems for metal fans who value both technical skill and emotional intensity.
The series will explore Shmayluk’s childhood in Donetsk, Ukraine, her early years navigating a male-dominated music scene, and Jinjer’s rapid rise — all against the backdrop of war, displacement, and the challenges of touring during global instability.
“I’ve always said that music saved my life,” Shmayluk shared in a teaser clip. “But I never thought my voice would take me around the world — or through so much darkness.”
Tatiana: Voice of the Storm features rare behind-the-scenes footage, studio sessions, personal interviews with Shmayluk, her bandmates, and family members, as well as commentary from major metal artists like Randy Blythe (Lamb of God), Alissa White-Gluz (Arch Enemy), and Corey Taylor (Slipknot). It also touches on her impact as a female figure in extreme music and a cultural symbol of Ukrainian resistance.
The series is expected to highlight not only her musical evolution, but her emotional and spiritual journey — from private lyricist and visual artist to global metal ambassador and accidental icon of strength.
As metal continues to evolve, Tatiana Shmayluk remains one of its most compelling and unconventional figures. With Voice of the Storm, Netflix offers a front-row seat to her story — raw, relentless, and deeply human.
