Netflix to Release Bold New Documentary Series on Taylor Momsen

Netflix is set to dive deep into the tumultuous, transformative life of rock singer and actress Taylor Momsen in a new multi-part documentary series titled “Light Me Up: The Taylor Momsen Story.” The series, scheduled for release on October 10, 2025, promises to deliver an unfiltered look at Momsen’s journey from child star to rock icon.

Best known for her breakout role as Cindy Lou Who in How the Grinch Stole Christmas and later as Jenny Humphrey in the hit teen drama Gossip Girl, Momsen shocked Hollywood when she walked away from acting at the height of her fame. Her pivot to music—and her evolution into the raw, unapologetic frontwoman of hard rock band The Pretty Reckless—has captivated fans and critics alike.

The Netflix series, directed by Emmy-winning filmmaker Lana Cruz, offers unprecedented access to Momsen’s personal archives, behind-the-scenes footage, and exclusive interviews with the singer, her bandmates, and close friends. The docuseries spans her early life in St. Louis, the pressures of child stardom, her clashes with the entertainment industry, and her eventual rebirth through music.

“Taylor’s story is about reclaiming identity,” Cruz said in a statement. “She went from being shaped by the industry to completely tearing down the mold and building her own voice—loud, fierce, and honest. That’s a narrative worth telling.”

Momsen herself appears heavily in the series, offering reflective and often emotional commentary on her past. In one preview clip, she states,

“I had to destroy everything people thought I was to figure out who I really am. Music saved me. It was the only place where I could scream and actually be heard.”

The series will also highlight her battles with depression, industry sexism, and the grief she experienced after losing producer Kato Khandwala and Soundgarden’s Chris Cornell—both of whom were instrumental in her artistic journey.

From sold-out world tours to personal breakdowns, Light Me Up doesn’t shy away from the darker moments. Yet, it ultimately delivers a story of empowerment, self-discovery, and resilience in the face of crushing pressure.

Early buzz surrounding the series is strong, with critics calling it “a powerful reclamation of narrative” and “a must-watch for music lovers and young women everywhere.”

Netflix has confirmed the series will consist of six episodes, all released simultaneously.

With Light Me Up, Taylor Momsen becomes the latest in a line of rock icons receiving the Netflix treatment—and her story may be one of the boldest yet.
