Netflix has officially announced a new documentary series chronicling the extraordinary life and legacy of Micky Dolenz, the last surviving member of the legendary 1960s pop-rock band The Monkees. Titled Last Monkee Standing, the series is set to premiere globally in December 2025, offering a deeply personal and emotional portrait of one of television and music’s most enduring icons.
Best known as the voice and drummer of The Monkees, Dolenz became a household name in the late ’60s when the band exploded into pop culture with a mix of catchy tunes, slapstick comedy, and irresistible charm. But beyond the laughter and chart-topping hits, Dolenz’s journey reveals a far more complex and fascinating story—one that Netflix aims to tell with rare candor.
The multi-part series will trace Dolenz’s life from his childhood as a television actor to the whirlwind fame of The Monkees TV show and its accompanying musical success. Featuring never-before-seen footage, intimate home videos, and new interviews with Dolenz, as well as friends, family, and notable collaborators, Last Monkee Standing promises a vivid look at a man who helped define a generation—and who has carried the torch of his band’s legacy for over half a century.
Produced in collaboration with Rhino Entertainment and the Dolenz family estate, the series also explores Dolenz’s relationships with his late bandmates—Davy Jones, Peter Tork, and Michael Nesmith—offering heartfelt reflections on their bond, creative clashes, and the heartbreak of loss.
“This isn’t just about the past,” Dolenz said in a statement. “It’s about survival, gratitude, and continuing to sing when the stage goes quiet. I’ve lived many lives. This is the real one.”
