According to Football Insider, Rangers, Middlesbrough, and Watford are vying for on-loan Everton defender Mason Holgate in January.

Due to a lack of action at Southampton, the Merseysiders want to recall Holgate, 27, in the January transfer window, according to Football Insider on Monday (11 December).

Everton want the centre-back to play more often and are eager to end his loan and find him a new club in January.

Rangers, Middlesbrough, and Watford are all said to be interested in Holgate and have been alerted to the possibilities of a January transfer.

Since joining Southampton on a season-long loan in the summer, the centre-back has only started four games for the Championship team.

Russell Martin’s squad has won just one of the four games he has started for England Under-21.

Holgate, who reportedly makes £70,000 per week at Goodison Park, is out of contract at Everton in June 2025.

Last season, he made only nine appearances across all competitions and must now consider joining another second-tier club in January after fighting for game time yet again.

Holgate has made 149 appearances for Everton since joining the club in 2015 from Barnsley.

Rangers are second in the Scottish Premiership and might advance to the Europa League knockout stages if they defeat Real Betis on Thursday (14 December).

Despite a poor start to the 2023-24 season, Middlesbrough and Watford are both in contention for a play-off spot in the Championship.

In other news, there has been a significant update on the incoming Rangers director of football.
