Aiden McGeady makes encouraging Celtic title observation after weekend’s event
Aiden McGeady makes encouraging Celtic title observation after weekend’s event
Celtic are top of the Scottish Premiership after securing a convincing 3-1 victory over St Johnstone last weekend.
Brendan Rodgers’ men dominated proceedings and managed to cut through Craig Levein’s side regularly, resulting in Kyogo Furuhashi, Nicolas Kuhn and James Forrest getting themselves on the scoresheet.
Post-match, the Irishman paid tribute to the synergy shown among the players and supporters on the day that helped to provide an atmosphere of encouragement on our road to collecting three points.
He stated: “I’m very pleased, it was a very good performance. The whole stadium, it felt really good today and really connected. From the first whistle, the supporters got behind the team and got their rewards. We scored three goals and could have had more.”
Of course, Celtic managed to overtake Rangers at the top of the table amid our rivals’ trip to Dundee on Sunday being called off courtesy of a waterlogged pitch.
It is unclear when the match will be rescheduled, though we can enjoy our lead at the summit for now, which is likely to give the Bhoys a minor psychological boost heading into the rest of the campaign.
Either way, we await the return of those who are away representing their respective nations before taking on Livingston in West Lothian at the end of this month.
Aiden McGeady delivers positive Celtic title verdict
Footballing traditionalists will value points on the board, while others may prefer to have a game in hand; nevertheless, Celtic are out in front at the moment, and it remains to be seen what transpires in the coming weeks as the title race intensifies.
MORE CELTIC STORIES
Plenty of twists and turns are left to come in the final eight matches of our season, though former Bhoy Aiden McGeady is of the belief that his old side now have an advantage in their Scottish Premiership battle.
The Ayr United winger stated [Scottish Football Podcast]: “It leaves Celtic top of the league going into the international break, with Rangers playing catch-up now.
“Psychologically, when you’re playing catch up, and you’re the ones having to keep winning to maintain the pace and keep up with your rivals, psychologically, the focus now shifts back to Rangers when it could’ve been slightly different if the game went ahead.”
Celtic just need to keep focusing on themselves in the league
Circumstances elsewhere aren’t within the Hoops’ control and don’t merit worrying about as we chase a domestic double.
Whether Rangers win their rescheduled game in hand or not, the Bhoys are still in a position to decide their own destiny this season amid the prospect of two Glasgow Derby clashes before the campaign ends.
Rodgers won’t be looking too far ahead during the international break, and hopefully, once we come through the other side, Celtic can continue to string together a run of consistent victories.
Former Hull City, Aston Villa and Celtic star ‘in the frame’ for Watford job
Former Hull City, Aston Villa and Celtic playmaker Shaun Maloney is reportedly in the frame to become Watford’s next permanent head coach
The Hornets have developed a reputation for hiring and firing and recently wielded the axe again, relieving former Barnsley boss Valerien Ismael of his duties.
Former England international Tom Cleverley has since been handed the reins temporarily, with Watford currently languishing in mid-table obscurity. Although Cleverley is now at the helm, Watford will already be planning for the next season.

According to Football Insider, Maloney is in the frame to land the role. He is currently in charge of Wigan Athletic, having returned to the club he once represented as a player in January 2023.

He had previously led Hibernian, having cut his teeth coaching within Celtic’s academy and assisting Roberto Martinez in his role as manager of the Belgium national team.
Although it remains to be seen whether Watford will indeed swoop for Maloney, it would not be surprising to see the 41-year-old step up to the Championship in the near future.
He has admirably steadied the ship at Wigan, blooding young players such as highly-rated goalkeeper Sam Tickle in the process. The Latics currently sit 11th in the League One table, 13 points adrift of the play-offs but comfortably clear of the relegation zone.
Celtic’s US line up complete as club to meet EPL Champions Manchester City and top MLS side DC United…
First Team
Celtic Football Club is delighted to confirm the final pair of their 2024 USA Tour opponents this summer.
First, the Bhoys go head to head with Manchester City in Chapel Hill, North Carolina on Tuesday, July 23.
The University of North Carolina’s Kenan Stadium will host the match against Pep Guardiola’s men, with the sides having only met twice before in competitive action in the group stages of the UEFA Champions League back in 2016/17.
Having drawn on both previous occasions, it’s set to be an exciting encounter as the Celts look to secure their first victory over Man City during this summer USA Tour.
Tickets for the match will go on general sale via Ticketmaster on Wednesday, March 27 at 10:00 a.m. local time. Fans can sign up now for an exclusive 24-hour presale which will also be accessible to Season Ticket holders at www.FCSeries.com. The pre-sale window will be open from 10am on 25th March.
Proceeds from the match will benefit UNC Children’s Hospital. Last year, $150,000 was donated to the hospital.
“Both of these teams are champions, and we are excited to bring them to a campus that has no shortage of trophies,” said Molly Pendleton, Senior Vice President, Unified Events.
Celtic defender, Cameron Carter-Vickers spoke of the team’s excitement ahead of the tour: “Everyone at Celtic is really looking forward to our summer visit to the U.S. and of course myself as a U.S. national player, I can’t wait. We have some great matches lined up at brilliant venues and of course our match with Manchester City will be bringing together two of the biggest names in the game.
We are fortunate at Celtic to have such a global reach and we hope as many supporters as possible can attend the match in North Carolina – and of course we will be doing our very best to put on a great show for the fans.”
The announcement of the match v Manchester City in North Carolina comes hot on the heels of yesterday’s confirmation that the Celts will take on Chelsea at the iconic Notre Dame Stadium in Indiana on July 27, ensuring an exciting fixture list for our Celtic supporters stateside.
The third match to be confirmed will be the first game played by the Bhoys on their U.S. Summer Tour when Celtic take on MLS side DC United in Washington at Audi Field in the American capital on July 20.
One of the founding clubs of Major League Soccer in 1996, DC United are among the most decorated teams in the United States with 13 domestic and international trophies.
The Black-and-Red have won the MLS Cup four times (1996, 1997, 1999 and 2004), the Supporters’ Shield four times (1997, 1999, 2006 and 2007) and the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup three times (1996, 2008 and 2013).
“We are committed to continuing to provide the DMV with world-class friendlies against globally recognisable opponents,” Danita Johnson, D.C. United President of Business Operations, said. “We are proud to welcome Celtic FC to Audi Field and we know how deep their support runs in the United States and across the world. This will be a unique experience for soccer fans in the DMV to see DC United lining up against another elite European opponent at Audi Field.”
Celtic club captain and Scotland internationalist Callum McGregor said: “We are delighted to be visiting Washington to meet DC United and we are sure the match will be another great sporting occasion. Celtic has enjoyed a number of great visits to the United States previously to play both European and MLS teams and I am sure this summer we will enjoy another successful visit.
“We are really grateful to have such a strong fanbase in the States and it is great that these matches will give our fans a chance to see us in action again.”
Celtic supporters can register for Priority Pre-Sale of tickets for the DC United match between March 19 and March 25 by visiting here.
Tickets for all Season Ticket holders and fans who signed up for Priority Pre-Sale tickets will be available for purchase on Monday, March 25. Tickets will be available to purchase for the general public on Wednesday, March 27.
SOURCES: EX-CELTIC STARLET MAY GET BIG MOVE AS WEST HAM WATCH ‘BRILLIANT’ ACE
EXCLUSIVE from Graeme Bailey
Everton, Nottingham Forest and West Ham United are just three of the Premier League clubs looking to sign one-time Celtic wonderkid Karamoko Dembele this summer following an impressive loan spell at Blackpool.
HITC Football understands that a player who set social media alight a couple of seasons ago – dancing through defenders far older than him as a 13-year-old playing for Celtic’s under-20 side – could belatedly be about to take one big step towards fulfilling his potential this summer.
Under contract at French side Brest, Karamoko Dembele has been a revelation on loan at Blackpool in England’s third tier. And his reward for a series of dazzling displays could be a move to the Premier League, Everton, West Ham United, Fulham, Brentford and Wolves all keeping tabs on a player who was linked with the likes of Chelsea before eventually leaving Celtic on a free transfer back in 2022.
West Ham among Premier League suitors
Dembele has seven goals and 12 assists for Blackpool. Still only 21, the former England youth star has clearly not lost the devastating dribbling ability that made him such a YouTube sensation north of the border. There is also interest, HITC has been told, from a Nottingham Forest side who came up against Dembele’s Blackpool side in the FA Cup in January.
Leicester City, Southampton and Leeds United – three clubs with Premier League ambitions – are also interested. As are a Middlesbrough side who are looking to bounce back from a disappointing campaign, and having already improved the attacking qualities at their disposal by bringing in Finn Azaz from Aston Villa.
“Karamoko Dembele now has three goals and eight assists in his last 17 games which, from his position, is excellent,” EFL expert Ali Maxwell told the Not The Top 20 podcast a few weeks back.
“For someone from a central position like Dembele to be putting up those kind of numbers (against) congested midfielders, where he picks up the ball, bursts and darts away and then threads a through ball…
“It’s really impressive what he’s doing.”
Karamoko Dembele ‘brilliant’ at Blackpool
Dembele is under contract at Stade Brestois until 2026. It remains to be seen if he has a future at the Ligue 1 outfit, who will be tempted to cash in if the likes of West Ham or Wolverhampton Wanderers are willing to stump up a sizeable fee.
“He’s a lovely player to watch,” Tangerines team-mate Owen Dale tells the Blackpool Gazette. “He’s a great asset for us to have in the team. He gives us a different dimension and likes to pop up in those pockets. He draws one or two defenders over to him which leaves someone else free.”
“He’s a great asset for us. He’s been brilliant since he’s come in.”
Wolves, HITC Football has been told, are also pursuing Fenerbahce left-back Ferdi Kadioglu.
Celtic are being rinsed by £2.5m signing who earns more than Scales
The Ange Postecoglou signing has fallen down the pecking order at Parkhead this season.
Celtic head coach Brendan Rodgers decided that he wanted to bolster his attacking options during the recent January transfer window ahead of the second half of the season.
The Hoops boss swooped to sign Nicolas Kuhn on a permanent deal from Rapid Wien and centre-forward Adam Idah on loan from Norwich City, with no option to make the deal permanent.
Giorgos Giakoumakis’ departure from Parkhead in February of last year – to join Atlanta United in the MLS – meant that the Scottish giants only had two senior striker options for almost 12 months.
Kyogo Furuhashi and Hyeon-gyu Oh were the club’s only number nines during the first half of the campaign, which led to a swoop for Idah to add another operator in that area of the pitch.
The Ireland international has enjoyed a fantastic start to life in Glasgow and his form has reduced Oh’s role within the squad even further, which is further evidence of the Ange Postecoglou signing being a flop.
How much Celtic paid to sign Hyeon-gyu Oh
Celtic reportedly agreed a fee of £2.5m to sign the South Korea international from Suwon Bluewings in January of last year, under the Australian head coach.
It was a sizeable fee to pay for the young marksman but he had just come off the back of an impressive goalscoring campaign in the K League 1.
Oh produced 14 goals and two assists in 38 appearances in the division throughout the 2022 season, which shows that he was in scoring form ahead of his move to Glasgow.
However, there were warning signs for the Hoops as the South Korean forward only completed 67% of his attempted passes and lost 60% of his physical duels that term.

As you can see in the table above, Giakoumakis had performed better during the 2021/22 Scottish Premiership campaign than Oh had in K League 1 in 2022, which did not suggest that the £2.5m signing would come in as an upgrade on the Greek international.
That has proven to be the case as the 22-year-old forward has failed to nail down a place in the starting XI and has not scored goals on a consistent basis, whilst earning more than several key first-team performers.
As per Salary Sport, Oh is currently on £9k-per-week at Parkhead, which is £468k-per-year. That is more than Tomoki Iwata (£7.6k-per-week), Stephen Welsh (£8.6k-per-week), Luis Palma (£6k-per-week), Hyun-jun Yang (£6k-per-week), and Liam Scales (£5k-per-week).
The attacker has rinsed Celtic as his performances on the pitch do not match up to the standard of his wages, particularly when you consider that Scales and Palma have been a key performer for the side this season.
Hyeon-gyu Oh’s Celtic goalscoring record
The former Suwon Bluewings star has scored 12 goals in 47 appearances in all competitions for the Scottish giants in just over a year at the club.
This means that he is still yet to reach the tally that Giakoumakis hit in his first season (13) with the Hoops in just 21 appearances and 11 starts, as shown in the previous comparison.
Oh racked up six goals in 16 Premiership appearances during the second half of the 2022/23 campaign under Postecoglou as he played second fiddle to Kyogo, but only managed one goal in five domestic cup outings.
This season, under Rodgers, the 22-year-old dud has only found the back of the net five times in 26 matches in all competitions for the Bhoys, with two of those goals coming off the bench in a 6-0 thumping of Aberdeen in November.
He is currently on a run of nine games without a goal or an assist for Celtic, and has been an unused substitute in each of the club’s last three matches, which shows that the attacker is not fancied by the manager as Kyogo and Idah have both been preferred ahead of him.
Oh has fallen down the pecking order since Idah’s arrival as the Ireland international has scored five goals and produced one assist in seven league appearances for the club, compared to the South Korean’s five goals and zero assists in 20 league games.
These statistics show that the £9k-per-week dud, who was signed for £2.5m, is currently rinsing Celtic as he is earning a big wage, in comparison to players with a greater role within the team, and has not provided much quality on the pitch throughout his time at the club.
Liam Scales’ Celtic stats this season
He earns £4k more per week than Scales and that does not appear to be value for money when you consider the central defender’s impact on the field for Rodgers.
In the 2023/24 campaign so far, the Ireland international has started 27 Premiership matches at the heart of the Celtic defence and caught the eye with his strong performances.
The left-footed titan returned from his season-long loan spell with Aberdeen last term and has worked hard to land a regular spot in the starting XI ahead of summer signings Maik Nawrocki and Gustaf Lagerbielke.

As you can see in the table above, Scales’ performances stack up well against Hoops star Cameron Carter-Vickers, who has only beaten him with his ability to win aerial duels against opposition forwards.
The Irish colossus, as shown by those statistics, has dominated attackers on the ground and in the air throughout the season, which means that players are rarely able to get the better of him in physical contests.
He has established himself as a regular and reliable starter in the league for Celtic with his strong performances, which further highlights how much of a flop Oh – who earns considerably more money in wages – has been.
The South Korea international also earns more than Palma, who has produced six goals and nine assists in 23 league outings this season, and that reinforces this point.
Therefore, Oh is rinsing Celtic as he was bought for millions and earns more per week than several key performers, despite not being fancied by the manager at present.
I stalled his dad at The Belfry as Aston Villa rustled up £2m to hijack Celtic transfer

Steve Bruce has revealed John McGinn was close to completing a move to Celtic before he joined Aston Villa in the summer of 2018.
The Scot was one of key transfer target for Bruce in the summer which followed Villa’s failed attempt of returning to the top-flight. Though McGinn’s £2 million move south of the border from Hibernian was held up as Villa changed ownership after weeks of uncertainty regarding the club’s future due to owner Dr Tony Xia’s financial issues.
Speaking to talkSPORT, Bruce explained: “I had heard his grandad used to be Celtic chairman. We had to stall. We didn’t have the £2million at the time and he was going to Celtic, but I had heard that his dad and grandad played golf. I thought ‘I am going to try and get his dad down to give us a little bit of stalling time’.

“We got him to The Belfry and got the pro to play him – which gave us another 4-5 hours to rustle up the £2million because we didn’t have it at the time. I am really pleased for him because he has turned into a really, really top player.”
Bruce added: “I remember Neil Lennon’s son telling me the best player in Scotland was John McGinn. He was at Hibs at the time, Lenny, so I got straight on the phone to him and said we need to find out about McGinn. So we went to work on it.”
McGinn helped Villa to promotion that season under Dean Smith and has since made 162 Premier League appearances for the club. He was made captain by Steven Gerrard before the start of last season and following the appointment of Unai Emery, McGinn has played a key role in the club’s return to European football and push for Champions League qualification.

Brendan Rodgers makes exciting Tomoki Iwata claim following his recent Celtic revival
Celtic have been forced to use their squad over the last few weeks amid a spate of injuries to key individuals.
Brendan Rodgers makes exciting Tomoki Iwata claim following his recent Celtic revival
Club captain Callum McGregor and United States international Cameron Carter-Vickers have both missed some recent action, with the latter returning last weekend; meanwhile, Reo Hatate is a long-term Parkhead absentee.
Despite having a plethora of midfield options, Brendan Rodgers has barely been able to rely on continuity in the engine room, leading to a season-long battle for the third midfield berth when everyone is fit.
In light of Hatate’s injury, McGregor and Matt O’Riley have usually occupied two of the vacant slots, with one of Paulo Bernardo, Tomoki Iwata, Odin Thiago Holm or Daniel Kelly taking up the available space.
Japanese midfielder Iwata has enjoyed a recent revival for the Bhoys in the wake of an injury-ridden first half of the campaign and has started our last five matches in all competitions [Transfermarkt].
Slowly, he has started to establish himself as a Celtic starter, putting in a series of controlled displays in the six position that have helped to offer his side a foothold in matches, especially at home.
Last weekend against St Johnstone, the former Yokohama F. Marinos man helped to pull the strings, turning in an excellent display that earned him a Sofascore match rating of 7.7/10.
Performing to an efficient standard, Iwata completed 111 of his 117 attempted passes (95%) alongside 15 of them entering the final third.

Brendan Rodgers makes exciting Tomoki Iwata Celtic claim
Fans will be delighted to see Iwata thriving in the Bhoys’ midfield, which has helped to quell worries regarding McGregor’s absence at a crucial time in the season.
Rodgers has clearly been impressed by his exploits and hasn’t ruled out the prospect of Iwata enjoying an extended run in the team, even when his captain does make his way back into the starting line-up.
Per the Daily Record, Rodgers stated on Iwata’s emergence: “With any player, it’s about getting a run in the team. He’s come in and done well in games when we have either moved Callum up or he hasn’t been available.
“That’s what he has been, a cover player for the squad. He’s done a really good job when he has come in. I’ve been really pleased with Tomo.
He later added on the prospect of Iwata enjoying more minutes in the latter stages of the season: “There’s that opportunity there for every player. I can’t play both him and Callum as controllers. Well, I could do, if I switched the system. But he is definitely an important member of the squad.
“Not everyone can be a starter all the time. There are a number of players who do that. But in terms of the impact he has made, I’ve been really pleased because he has struggled with bits of injury on and off this season. He would have played more games if he had been fit.
“There were periods when he was going to play in some of the Champions League games but he wasn’t quite ready. I’m just pleased he’s done well when he’s come in.”
Tomoki Iwata can continue to be an important player for Celtic
At a club like Celtic, it is impossible to win silverware with just a small core of players, meaning individuals who possess versatile qualities, such as Iwata, become majorly important to Rodgers’ ability to rotate the squad.
The 26-year-old can perform in the six or higher up as an eight; meanwhile, we have already seen Iwata step back into central defence when required, including in our treble-clinching Scottish Cup final against Inverness Caledonian Thistle last term.
It wouldn’t be a surprise to see more of the Usa-born man before this campaign draws to a close as he continues to go about his business in a quietly effective fashion.
Absolutely vital’… Former Celtic player has just landed key SFA referee role
PFA Scotland CEO, Fraser Wishart, has explained why former Celtic striker, Craig Beattie, has just landed a key refereeing role within the SFA.
The VAR furore surrounding Scottish football and, most recently Celtic, heaped pressure on the SFA’s former Head of Referees, Crawford Allan, this week.
And after Allan resigned yesterday afternoon, it seems like the national association has taken steps to build bridges between them and the players after Beattie was appointed as the player liaison officer between the refereeing department and the Scottish top-flight club captains.
Beattie has been charged with getting the views and opinions on VAR from the players and feeding them back to the SFA.
And here, Wishart explains the thinking behind appointing the former Celtic striker to the role.
Wishart said [The Sun], “We feel it’s absolutely vital that players’ views on VAR are taken into consideration.
“Since it was introduced the players haven’t been asked what their views on it are, so we’re going to go ahead and do it and feed the responses back to the SFA.
“It will be interesting to hear players’ views.
MORE CELTIC STORIES
“Do they want VAR? Where are the areas they feel it can be improved?”
This is probably the biggest move the SFA have made to try and fix the serious issues surrounding the application of VAR and it’s the first time player’s opinions are being taken on board regarding the refereeing technology.
After Celtic succumbed to some terrible decisions against Hearts two weeks ago, I am sure this move will be welcomed by the clubs.
VAR has been dogged with controversy ever since it’s induction just over 18 months ago and any proposal to make sure it is used fairly to assist referees will be welcomed not just by the clubs but also by football fans all over the country.
Rodgers may have already found Celtic’s dream Hart replacement
The Hoops have reportedly tabled an offer to sign the soon-to-be free agent goalkeeper.
Celtic head into the international break at the top of the Scottish Premiership table after their convincing 3-1 win over St. Johnstone at Parkhead on Saturday.
Their rivals Rangers had their clash with Dundee postponed due to a waterlogged pitch on Sunday, which meant that the Hoops ended the weekend one point clear – having played one more game than the team in second.
The Hoops still have the chance to secure two trophies before the end of the season as they remain in the Premiership title race and are set to play Aberdeen in the semi-finals of the SFA Cup last month.
They were knocked out of Europe in the group stages of the Champions League, and were dumped from the League Cup by Kilmarnock, during the first half of the campaign.
The Scottish giants may look to make changes to their playing squad to fare better across all competitions and in Europe next season, and there is one position that will need looking at as Joe Hart is set to retire.
Latest Celtic transfer news
Celtic will need to find a player to take the former England international’s place between the sticks and Brendan Rodgers may have already found the dream replacement for him.
According to Dutch paper Algemeen Dagblad (17/03/2024), via SoccerNews, the Hoops have identified RKC Waalwijk goalkeeper Etienne Vaessen as a target ahead of the summer transfer window.
The report claims that the Glasgow-based side have already placed an offer on the table to sign the talented shot-stopper to bolster their squad.
His current contract with Waalwijk is due to expire at the end of the season and this has allowed Celtic to make him an offer to sign a pre-contract agreement.
However, the outlet states that Vaessen is in no rush to make a decision on his future. The 28-year-old star has his full focus on helping his current club to avoid relegation from the Eredivisie before deciding his next move.
Algemeen Dagblad reports that Dutch giants PSV are also interested in a possible swoop to sign the experienced shot-stopper, and that the interest from both clubs has not left him ‘unmoved’, which suggests that he could decide to make the switch to Scotland or across the Netherlands in the summer.
Celtic, if they win the race for his signature, have already found the dream replacement for Hart between the sticks as the Dutch giant has been in sublime form and could, possibly, arrive as an upgrade on the veteran Englishman.
Joe Hart’s Celtic stats this season
The 36-year-old titan, who turns 37 next month, has kept ten clean sheets in 29 appearances for the Scottish giants in the Premiership so far this season.
Celtic won the league title in both of his first two years at the club, having joined from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2021, and he will be hoping for a perfect treble before his retirement later this year.
Hart’s performances in the league this season have improved in comparison to his displays under Ange Postecoglou during the 2022/23 campaign, which suggests that he is going out on a high this summer.

As you can see in the table above, the experienced stopper’s save success rate, saves per game, and aerial duel success rate have all improved, whilst he has conceded the same number of goals per match on average.
This suggests that the Hoops defence has allowed more shots against his goal this time around, but he has stepped up to ensure that their mistakes have not impacted the team.
However, Hart did leave a bit to be desired with his underwhelming performances in the Champions League as he conceded 1.7 more goals than expected based on the post-shot xG value of the efforts against him in six appearances, which was also the case during the 2022/23 campaign.
In total, the ex-Manchester City star let in 6.5 more goals than expected in 19 European matches for Celtic over the last three seasons combined, which shows that the goalkeeper struggled with the quality of finishes in Europe.
Why Etienne Vaessen could be a dream Joe Hart replacement
The Hoops could now land a dream replacement for Hart by beating PSV to Vaessen’s signature this summer, as the Dutch colossus has been in fantastic form this season.
Despite his side battling against relegation, the Celtic target has caught the eye with 4.0 saves per game and a Sofascore rating of 7.31 across 22 appearances in the Eredivisie.
He has prevented a staggering 4.67 more goals than expected based on the xG of the shots against him this season, which suggests that the 28-year-old star has consistently made high-quality saves against high-quality efforts.

As you can see in the table above, Vaessen has outperformed Hart in a number of key goalkeeping metrics throughout the 2023/24 campaign so far.
Not only has the potential free agent significantly outperformed the Englishman as a shot-stopper, the Waalwijk hero has also been terrific at sweeping up behind his defence and at commanding his box to relieve the pressure on his backline.
Vaessen has the quality to consistently come off his line to either clear the ball from danger outside of his box or to collect a cross to prevent the opposition from getting a shot away.
Whereas, Hart ranks within the bottom 1% of goalkeepers in the Champions League this season for defensive actions outside the penalty area per 90 and the percentage of crosses into the box stopped.
These statistics suggest that the Dutch ace, who is eight years younger than the former England international, would arrive as a significant upgrade on the current Celtic number one, should he translate his performances over to Glasgow.
Ousted- report claims Premiership clubs forced Crawford Allan to quit
A report in the Daily Mail has claimed that Crawford Allan was ousted from his job as Head of Refereeing following a vote of No Confidence from Premiership clubs.
Yesterday the SFA announced that Allan was leaving at the end of the season to pursue new opportunities but an alternative version has now surfaced.
Almost every club in the top flight has questioned the inconsistencies of VAR where similar incidents are dealt with differently due to the interpretation of the VAR with most match referees accepting the verdict of the man watching the screens.
Most Read…
Additionally fans in the stadium are being left in the dark with lengthy VAR checks and a lack of explanation as goals are disallowed and penalties awarded.
It seems that a build up of issues led to yesterday’s statement, in the Daily Mail Stephen McGowan reveals:
CRAWFORD ALLAN will leave his post as head of Scotland’s referees after a vote of no confidence from the nation’s top clubs.
The former Category One official will depart Hampden after four years ‘to pursue new opportunities’ — as the governing body conducts a review of the role in light of ongoing VAR controversies.
Asked for their feedback at a recent meeting, senior representatives of Premiership sides delivered a scathing assessment of Allan’s role in implementing VAR in Scottish football.
Having overseen the system’s implementation in November 2022, a growing number of controversies rendered his position increasingly precarious.
In the absence of a ready-made replacement, the referees’ chief will stay in post until the end of the season when the SFA are likely to look outside Scotland for a replacement.
The next issue for Allan to deal with is on Thursday March 28 when Brendan Rodgers answers a Notice of Complaint following his comments after Celtic lost 2-0 to Hearts at Tynecastle.
Yang Hyun-jun has already had an appeal rejected and served a two match suspension for his red card in that match.
If Rodgers fails in his appeal against the Notice of Complaint he will serve a minimum of a two match touchline ban covering matches at the Tony Macaroni Arena and Ibrox.
£15m MIKEY? SEE WHAT
CELTIC loan flop Oli Burke cost West Brom £15million when they signed him from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2017.
The Scotland international forward was one of Brendan Rodgers’ last transfer moves in his first time-around stint as Hoops manager when the winger arrived on a temporary deal from the Midlands club in January 2019.
The Irishman didn’t hang around to see Burke collect a meagre four goals in 19 appearances for the Parkhead side before being returned to the English outfit by an unimpressed Neil Lennon.
The question that must be asked today is: If the Hawthorns club rated Burke at £15million almost seven years ago, how much would they be prepared to pay for Mikey Johnston at current prices?
ONE DOWN, THREE TO GO…Oliver Burke celebrates his first goal for Celtic in a win over St Mirren at Parkhead. He claimed four in total before being returned to West Brom.
The on-loan Celt is ripping it up in the Championship since arriving in January and has fired in a remarkable six goals in 10 games.
That’s even more extraordinary when you consider the Glasgow-born Republic of Ireland international netted only two goals in four years at the champions, admittedly spending one of those seasons at Portuguese top-flight club Vitoria Guimaraes.
As you would expect, the West Brom fans are urging the club to make the switch permanent in the summer, especially with their favourites currently sitting fifth in the table and pushing for promotion to the lucrative Premier League.
The gifted Bhoy is under contract at the Hoops until June 2026 and the club can play hardball in any transfer negotiations if someone comes knocking on the door.
Rodgers, as ever, won’t show his hand in these situations and, asked what he thought of his player’s impact across the border, answered: “Brilliant. I’ve said before about Mikey’s talent. He has been here a long time.
“Listen, the shirt is a different weight of shirt when you leave here. But Mikey has always shown the talent.
HUSH…big-noise Mikey Johnston celebrates one of his six strikes for West Brom.
“He has had a number of years where he has picked up lots of injuries and he needed to get a run of games. I spoke to him in the summer when he was looking to go on loan.
“I said stay and get your training right because you’ve not had a period of training consistently, never mind playing games. He was able to do that then he featured in some games for us and once he trained and featured it was then about getting him game time.
“He has gone and done fantastic and shown the talent everyone knows he has. Hopefully, he continues with that and then we can look at it again in the summer.”
Rodgers, speaking to the Daily Record, added: “Mikey’s 24 years of age now, he’s not a baby, he is a boy who wants to play. He has lots of talent and you’ve seen that going down into the Championship.
“He’s scored some fantastic goals, but it’s not a surprise. You see him in training and he has that ability.
“It’s all about the consistency and being fit and available. He’s shown that now over this part of the season and, hopefully, continues until the end of the season at West Brom.”
Read into that what you will.
GREEN FOR GO…Nicolas Kuhn is getting into his stride after a false start.
In the summer, Rodgers will have Marco Tilio, with a mere 28 minutes of first-team action at the Hoops following his £2million summer arrival from Melbourne City, back in contention after a loan return to the Aussie outfit.
Yang Hyun-jun will undoubtedly be a better proposition than he has shown in his debut campaign, although there have been flashes of inspiration to offer optimism.
Nicolas Kuhn, a Rodgers-backed £3million recruit from Rapid Vienna in January, will be up and running while Daizen Maeda, Luis Palma and the evergreen James Forrest will also be in contention.
And let’s not forget the qualities of Sead Haksabanovic who was packed off to Stoke City in a hasty loan agreement in August after some ill-advised remarks on social media about not being appreciated in Glasgow.
If West Brom match – or even better – the £15million they splashed on Burke, the champions may just be tempted to part with a player who has struggled under the weight of a Celtic shirt.
Concrete’ – Celtic make offer for signing, Brendan Rodgers’ side could have advantage in transfer race
Celtic goalkeeper Joe Hart has announced his decision to retire at the end this season and Brendan Rodgers’ side have to bring in a replacement for him in the summer.
RKC Waalwijk’s Etienne Vaessen has been identified as a target for Celtic. That’s according to Algemeen Dagblad, relayed by Soccernews, who state Celtic have ‘concrete’ interest in the 28-year-old.
The stopper’s deal expires in the summer and it’s said Celtic have already made an offer to him. Due to his contract situation, the report says he has ‘all the control in his hands’.
Brendan Rodgers’ side aren’t alone as PSV Eindhoven are also in the mix to sign Vaessen, who hasn’t yet made a decision on his future yet. He’s currently focused on helping RKC avoid relegation.
The Eredivisie side’s director, Earnest Stewart, watched the Dutchman against Vitesse last week. PSV see him as an ideal candidate to become Joël Drommel’s backup.
Eindhovens Dagblad journalist Rik Elfrink took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to state it’s possible for PSV to complete the deal in April. The Dutch club may not take this step considering they currently have five goalkeepers in the squad.
This isn’t the case with Brendan Rodgers’ side, especially with Hart’s exit at the end of this season, and it may give them an advantage over PSV.
It could be a battle between Celtic and PSV for Vaessen in the summer.

Rodgers present Perfect evidence at his SFA hearing
Brendan Rodgers now has the perfect evidence to present at his SFA hearing…
Imagine if that was a Celtic handball yesterday
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers arrives prior to the Cinch Scottish Premiership match between Celtic FC and St. Johnstone FC at Celtic Park Stadium on March 16, 2024 in Glasgow, Scotland.
Yesterday’s game at Celtic Park against St Johnstone was filled with yet more VAR controversy. Despite us winning the game in a comfortable fashion we still had a few legitimate complaints when it came to the much maligned technology.
None more so than the incident in the first half with the game still goalless when a St Johnstone player seemed to block a shot on the goal line with his elbow. Yes the elbow is part of the arm as far as I know, and despite it going to a VAR review it was deemed legitimate! “No handball” was their verdict.
It’s a penalty no doubt about it. Especially when you consider the Iwata incident at Tynecastle. Or looking further back the Bernabei and O’Rielly decisions at Celtic Park last season. https://t.co/q7kyaDYIeD
— JustAnOrdinaryBhoy (@ordinarybhoy) March 16, 2024
It doesn’t matter that he didn’t know anything about it as it was going in the net, yes the player stopped a net bound shot with a part of his arm. Surely within the rules of the game that is a penalty kick?
Remember last season when we conceded two spot kicks at home to Dundee United and Ross County? Case one was for the ball hitting Alexandro Bernabei on the back of the arm when he didn’t know anything about it.
In the second instance it was Matt O’Riley being penalised for the ball bouncing off his arm just inside the box. Both incidents were sent to VAR and adjudged to be penalties. You can see our frustration.
Our biggest gripe though is the Tomoki Iwata incident at Tynecastle just a fortnight ago. The ball accidentally hits his arm after he was nudged by his own teammate just inside the penalty area. Nowhere near the goal I may add, and yet the VAR team adjudged it to be worthy of a spot kick. He was facing the other way. His eyes were closed. He was barged in the bag as three players jumped for the ball. He had zero knowledge that the penalty was give for his hand-ball offence and only found out in the dressing room at half time.
This is where it gets interesting. Brendan Rodgers is up in front of the SFA on a charge of making remarks about the officials, namely John Beaton. Brendan’s only ‘crime’ was calling Beaton ‘incompetent’ well that’s mild to what most of us have called him, but Brendan has now got evidence of his own now to put before the beaks.
Exhibit A your honour. “Incompetence has many meanings and one of them is that you aren’t doing your job efficiently or correctly. Before me I have footage of an incident at our last game, an incident similar to the one I have been accused of calling for clarity on.
“The footage shows said incident much more punishable according to the laws of the game, yet it was judged by the officials after having a quick look to be a ‘legal’ act.
“The incident that caused me to be up before you was in a similar if not lesser instance, yet I have been charged for making that point. Yes I called the official in question incompetent, but judging by this footage and the rules of the game doesn’t that make said official incompetent as he clearly went against the rules of the game?
“Either that or the officials on Saturday are guilty of incompetence and went against the rules of the game. So which is it to be your honour? Case closed.”
Brendan Rodgers was delighted after the 3-1 win over St Johnstone
Another point, had that been a Celtic player, say the unfortunate Tomoki Iwata, standing on the Celtic goal-line with the ball hitting him in exactly the same spot…it goes to VAR for a review, their decision and the outcome would have been one of two alternatives:
No penalty, no handball as was the outcome yesterday
Penalty to St Johnstone and a red card for the Celtic player, with a one match ban. Celtic’s subsequent failed appeal would see that double to a two match ban.
Which option do you think VAR would have reached yesterday had it been a ball to arm situation on the Celtic goal-line preventing a St Johnstone goal?
After my Old Firm goals for Rangers, there were parts of Glasgow I was warned to avoid’
Former Rangers striker Peter Lovenkrands has opened up about life as a player during his stint in Glasgow and how he had to avoid certain areas of the city after Celtic games
The Old Firm derby is one of the fiercest rivalries on the planet, so it’s little wonder Celtic and Rangers players were given safety advice after the games.
‘Gers icon Peter Lovenkrands was a big favourite at Ibrox, not least because of his habit of netting against the Hoops. He joined Rangers from Danish club Akademisk Boldklub in 2000, knowing little about Glasgow or the intense hatred between the two sets of fans in the city.
But after scoring a couple of goals in the Old Firm he couldn’t walk down the street without getting bombarded with verbal expletives from angry Celtic supporters out for revenge. Fortunately, the 44-year-old revealed, his local mates told him which parts of town to avoid in order to steer clear of trouble.

“Celtic fans did not like me and I understand it. It’s such a big rivalry, the biggest you will ever get, and unless you experience it, you will never understand,” Lovenkrands exclusively told Ladbrokes Fanzone. “In my second season there, I scored a few goals against Celtic. So after that year, it all took a big turn for me.
“I went from being able to walk down the streets no problem, to everyone looking for autographs and photos. The negative side then was the shouting and what not on the street from Celtic fans, but that is part and parcel of it. I had good friends around me who helped me in terms of telling me what not to do, places to go, and so on.”

Despite the perpetual animosity, Lovenkrands says he feels honoured to have played a small part in the Celtic-Rangers rivalry. “It is the most amazing derby to be part of and to be fair, people now won’t understand what it was like; back then it was crazy because the away fans were allowed over 8000 and the noise at those games was just incredible.
“Now, there’s no away fans so it’s not the same. I feel for the players and fans because they don’t get the actual Old Firm experience. The atmosphere was insane.”
Lovenkrands scored 54 goals in 182 Rangers matches, with six of them coming against Celtic. He left in 2006 to join German club Schalke 04, but returned to British soil two years later to sign for Newcastle. He hung up his boots in 2014 after a short stint with Birmingham.
Nicolas Kuhn delivers class three-word Instagram message after Celtic defeat St Johnston
Celtic exerted their dominance in a 3-1 victory over St Johnstone yesterday to move back to the top of the Scottish Premiership table.
Kyogo Furuhashi opened the scoring not long before the interval after latching on to an excellent delivery from the lively Nicolas Kuhn to put his side in the lead.
Immediately after the restart, our Japanese talisman returned the favour, flashing a low ball across goal that Kuhn duly stuck away to double the Hoops’ advantage in convincing fashion.
James Forrest rounded off with a sweetly struck third from just inside the area, rendering Connor Smith’s late reply for the visitors as nothing more than a mere consolation.
Overall, Celtic turned in one of their more consistent performances of the Scottish Premiership campaign and now sit top of the pile ahead of Rangers’ trip to Dundee later today.
Nevertheless, Brendan Rodgers revealed he won’t be taking any interest in events elsewhere, as he will instead be celebrating St Patrick’s Day.
He stated: “St Patrick’s Day tomorrow so I’ll be celebrating St Patrick’s Day. There’ll be a celebration of the Irish community worldwide so I won’t have any interest in any results.”

What Nicolas Kuhn said after Celtic saw off St Johnstone
German winger Kuhn has taken a while to settle in at Parkhead, with problems in the aftermath of dental surgery having a profound impact on his early days at the club.
Nevertheless, yesterday’s goal and assist, which followed his assist against Livingston last weekend, have helped to build rapport between the 24-year-old and the supporters, who now recognize his dynamic qualities cutting in from the right flank.

Celtic couldn’t afford to slip up yesterday and delivered a timely reminder of their title-winning credentials against an organised St Johnstone outfit.
Dejected Craig Levein explains why he’s glad he doesn’t face ‘fantastic’ Celtic every week
Celtic’s 3-1 win over St Johnstone puts the pressure back on Rangers at the top of the table this afternoon.
Brendan Rodgers‘ side looked back to their best as they delivered a brilliant all-round performance that the Celtic fans have not seen for quite some time this season.
Their constant pressure at closing down the St Johnstone players and their attacking intent was reminiscent of the kind of football we witnessed under Ange Postecoglou.
And it was this type of performance that left St Johnstone manager, Craig Levein, admitting that he’s happy that he doesn’t need to face the Parkhead side every week.
Levein said [Sky Sports], “I thought without the ball we were pretty good. Whenever we did win it back, particularly in the first half, we just turned it over nearly every time probably doubling the amount of attacks that Celtic had through our own inadequacy to keep possession of the ball.
“And that just made it harder for us defensively. And if you can get periods of control in the game then what that means is that your defenders are constantly under pressure in here.
“Attack after attack after attack with players who it’s not as simple as just defending crosses, there’s a lot of different passes that are played in that created opportunities for the Celtic players and you fall asleep for a second and you find yourself in trouble.”
“But this isn’t a game that’s going to define our season. We’ve got a lot of matches to play that will involve many different types of mental problems for us.
MORE CELTIC STORIES
“This is a tricky place to come with a big pitch, a great surface and the movement Celtic have got is fantastic.
“And that was really tiring. For us. But that’s not what we’re facing every week.”
Watching the interview you could see the abject disappointment on Levein’s face in the tone of his voice as Celtic blew his St Johnstone team away.
As I said earlier, this was a performance that we have not seen from a Brendan Rodgers side for pretty much of the whole season.
Their attacking flair, particularly down the right flank with Nicolas Kuhn, was exceptional. The German winger is really starting to show the signs of the player that persuaded Rodgers to splash £3m on the German winger in January.
The only blot on Celtic’s performance was the fact that we conceded a poor goal that should have been dealt with much better by the back four.
But overall, as Levein admits, Celtic were fantastic yesterday and it’s just a pity that the international break has come when it has.
Because looking at what Brendan Rodgers’ side has delivered recently, barring the Hearts result, this team is growing more and more with confidence at the business end of the season and it has just made this title run-in all the more interesting for the Celtic fans.
Celtic news: Wyness shares Peter Lawwell transfer reveal that will surprise fans
Former Aberdeen chief Keith Wyness has insisted chairman Peter Lawwell and his Celtic board have done “the right thing long-term” despite fan backlash over transfer spending.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Aberdeen between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted Lawwell is a “canny operator” having dealt with him many times during his career.
Celtic’s only permanent signing in January was winger Nicolas Kuhn for a £3million fee – despite the club’s 2022-23 financial accounts showing £40million of profit and cash reserves of £67million.
The Hoops are also under pressure from Rangers in the race for the Scottish Premiership title race, with their Old Firm rivals moving two points ahead in recent weeks.
Peter Lawwell has ‘done the right thing for Celtic’, says Wyness
Football Insider detailed in February the huge fan discontent on social media about the lack of spending – with former Celtic forward Chris Sutton also slamming Lawwell’s statement on the issue.
Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I know Peter, I’ve dealt with him many times on player transfers and I’ve observed how he’s run Celtic.
“They’re very canny operators, and I think they’ve done the right thing long-term for Celtic.
“It’s always nice to have the resources available if you do have to make a big change and a new manager does come in. It’s great to have that luxury.
Join the Football Insider WhatsApp channel to get all our exclusives and the breaking transfer news FIRST.
“They made a judgement at the time, they thought they had spent enough to get success. It hasn’t proved to be the case – but with hindsight, it is easy to say that.
“In football, everything’s 50:50. 50% of fans will hate the decision, 50% of fans will love it – that’s just the way it’s always been.
“The season’s not finished, so we’ve just got to watch this space and see this great soap opera develop.”

Arsenal ‘name price’ for Kieran Tierney
Advertisement
Arsenal are looking to put on a ‘fire sale’ at the Emirates Stadium in the upcoming summer transfer window – and former Celtic defender Kieran Tierney could be one of several names on Mikel Arteta’s chopping block, according to a report from GIVEMESPORT.
The Gunners are hoping for bids in excess of £20 million for the 41-cap Scottish international. Tierney could return to his former club, but it is unclear if the Celts have this amount of money to spare. Additionally, Tierney could potentially make the jump to La Liga, following his enjoyable stint with Real Sociedad on loan this season. Additionally, Celtic will be owed 15% of the fee that Arsenal sell him for should they reach an agreement.
Manchester United interested in Benfica’s Joao Neves
Rangers are due to take on Benfica in the second leg of their exciting Europa League tie on Thursday – and one of Os Encarnados’ top stars, Joao Neves, is thought to be in the crosshairs of Premier League giants Manchester United.
This is according to a recent report featured in the Mail Online. The move to try and bring Neves to Old Trafford is believed to have been spearheaded by new minority owner Jim Ratcliffe – the Red Devils could put forth a offer as high as £100 million to try and snap up the young Portuguese starlet.
Priceless Maeda
I had a conversation a week ago along the lines of, “Daizen gives us lots of running, but not much else.” A player with speed as his most potent weapon is stifled against Scottish opposition.
Putting the ball in the net is the best counter to that concern. A player who produces a hat trick when his team mates most need him is priceless.
More of the same, Daizen.

Kit Loferski opened the scoring early with five minutes on the clock. Lucy Ashworth-Clifford, who was named in the starting line-up once again, sent a brilliant delivery into the box for Loferski to convert from close range.
Great to see Lucy Ashworth-Clifford back in the team after a long injury lay-off
Kit got a brace for herself a few minutes later with a beautiful finish. The American forward made a run across the front post and put the ball in the back of the net. She then had the chance to secure her hat trick as she cut in from the left just past the half-hour mark, but she couldn’t find the back of the net.
That didn’t mean we were without another goal before the break though, as with 42 minutes on the clock, a ball from Amy Gallacher found Jenni Smith, who put the ball in the bottom corner with a well-composed shot.
Smith scores and congratulates Gallacher for the assist
With the second half underway, the Celts were desperately searching for a fourth. It eventually came with 56 minutes gone as Shen Mengyu pounced on a loose ball and smashed it home.
Celtic weren’t done yet, with Caitlin Hayes getting in on the act. Maria McAneny sent a cross into the box and Hayes was there to meet it. She jumped up and headed beyond the goalkeeper to make it five.
Rounding off a decisive Scottish Cup performance, Murphy Agnew got on the end of a Menglu pass. The American rounded the goalkeeper and tapped it home, adding a sixth goal to Celtic’s tally for the afternoon.
And with that, our place in the last four was secured!
Speaking after the game, two-time goalscorer Loferski said: “Coming up here is a bit of a trek, but straight off the bus and onto the pitch, we couldn’t ask for a better performance! We put some goals in the back of the net and kept it out of our own. What more could you ask for.
🗣️ “We’re feeling good as a whole. We scored goals, and kept a clean sheet. So what more could we ask for?”

Elena Sadiku also reflected on the performance, saying: “We’re happy about going through to the semi-final. We didn’t concede any goals and we kept scoring. Standing here now, I wanted more goals, but the most important thing is that we’re through to the semi-finals, so mission accomplished.
Elena Sadiku enjoying her away day at Montrose. It was freezing!
“We were ready from the start and that’s something that we always talk about. We had fans travelling to Montrose, so we had to show how much we wanted it, not just for us but for the fans.
“Every day, we’re working every single day to get better, so it makes us happy that we’re doing what we’re training on. Hopefully, we can keep going like this.
“I’ve never been there [Hampden]. I know we have some good history there. We’re moving towards the end of the season but we’re happy that things are going our way. We hope we can keep building on this.”
We certainly got the job done yesterday as we continued our defence of the Scottish Cup. It’s good to see goals being scored by numerous players and to see some names returning to the starting line-up, most notably, LAC.
As we enter the final stages of the season, let’s hope that we can continue our good form with a win in the Glasgow Derby next weekend.
Before our next match though, we will find out who we will be facing in the semi-finals of the Women’s Scottish Cup. The draw will be made at half-time in the Greenock Morton vs Hearts tie, which is set to kick off at 19:45. Our opponent will either be Hearts, Spartans or theRangers.
Celtic carnage causes rubbernecking on night a roar about elsewhere sparks an onslaught – Keith Jackson
Six goals before the half-time whistle had reduced Dundee’s defence to a write-off in thumping win for the Hoops
CELTIC 7 DUNDEE 1 – BEST OF THE ACTION FROM PARKHEAD
If Celtic turned a corner in added time at Fir Park on Sunday this was the night they planted a foot back on the title accelerator.
Six goals before the half-time whistle had reduced Dundee’s defence to a write-off and that seemed perfectly fitting given their own journey to Glasgow’s east end included a breakdown just a few miles out from the scene of this car crash. Indeed it was difficult not to rubberneck at the carnage the champions were leaving in their rear-view mirror such was the extent of the damage being done to anyone daft enough to turn up in a dark blue shirt.
A seventh goal was added in the second half by youngster Daniel Kelly as Brendan Rodgers and his team roared out a message to their rivals that this season’s race has some distance left to go yet. Tony Docherty probably suspected it wasn’t going to be his night when the team bus clapped out somewhere along London Road, an hour or so before kick-off. The hosts had to come to the rescue by sending Celtic’s own coach to shuttle Docherty and his players safely into the ground. But it didn’t bode well.
Brendan Rodgers and Celtic players after Dundee big win
RELATED ARTICLES
Nor for the matter did the fact this midweek road trip south coincided with the return to Celtic’s starting line-up of Cameron Carter-Vickers, adding a bit of American steel to a defence that has been wobbling generously for almost everyone else since the turn of the year.
Not on this night though, despite all of the gloom that has descended around the place in recent weeks. Perhaps sensing the unusual lack of energy in the stands, Dundee went straight onto the front foot with two shots and a half hearted penalty claim within a 60-second blitz.
First, Jordan McGhee forced Joe Hart into a sharp flying save after Amadou Bakayoko had managed to play him in behind despite losing his footing in a tussle with Greg Taylor. From the corner that followed the ball ricocheted around the box and a couple of Dundee players screamed for a handball before it broke to Owen Beck whose deflected effort looped wide of Hart’s right-hand post.

The sight of all this activity in and around Celtic’s box popped a pin in what little atmosphere the crowd had mustered before kick-off.
But all that would soon change. First, after six minutes, Carter-Vickers got the spirits soaring when he climbed at the back post to meet Matt O’Riley’s sand wedge of a free-kick and smash a header into the roof of Trevor Carson’s net. But the roof really came off soon after when word filtered up the M77 of Kilmarnock’s opener against Rangers.
And from that moment, Dundee didn’t stand a chance out there. A second goal followed in 16 minutes when Alistair Johnston hit the byline to collect Yang’s pass and conjure a delightful cross for Adam Idah to head spectacularly home from five yards.
But this onslaught was only getting started. Three minutes later came the third when Taylor picked out O’Riley with a cross from the left and the Dane hurled himself at it to send a diving header in at Carson’s right-hand post. Dundee hadn’t been playing badly at all. But already they were entering a world of pain.
It intensified on the half hour mark when Daizen Maeda spun on a sixpence inside Dundee’s box, leaving Ricki Lamie for dead before swivelling on the same spot and curling a left-foot shot around Carson and into the net.
And it was 5-0 with 10 minutes to spare before the break when Lamie got his head on Johnston’s cross from the right but succeeded only in glancing it into the path of Taylor who stabbed it home as he raced in at the back post.
Even when Dundee thought they had stopped the bleeding with a goal from Curtis Main they were clobbered again – by a VAR review that showed the striker was marginally offside before crashing a superb shot past Hart. And before they made it into the sanctuary of the dressing room, they were six goals down.
Daniel Kelly celebrates after Celtic goal
Callum McGregor got in on the act, working a sharp 1-2 with Taylor on the edge of the box before wrapping his left boot around a shot that gave Carson no chance. And so the visitors headed in at the break giving serious consideration to commandeering Celtic’s bus and making a hasty retreat up the road. McGregor was allowed to go for a shower and take the rest of the night off, his place taken by youngster Daniel Kelly, 18.
Docherty made three changes of his own, replacing McGhee, Joe Shaughnessy and Malachi Boateng with Josh Mulligan, Aaron Donnelly and Mohamed Sylla – while praying for the punishment to end before things became any more excruciating.

It helped that Celtic were kind enough to take their foot off the gas, with Rodgers making three further changes on the hour when Kyogo Furuhashi, Stephen Welsh and Anthony Ralston were sent on for Idah, Carter-Vickers and Taylor.
No sooner had they arrived than youngster Kelly was sweeping home the seventh goal from 18 yards after connecting perfectly with a cut back from Yang to curl one inside Carson’s left-hand post.
He was very good’… Brendan Rodgers said one Celtic player was ‘fantastic’ in win over Dundee last night
What a win last night and, to be honest, I am still scratching my head at where that performance came from.
Now I know we got a glimpse of it in the second-half of the Motherwell win on Sunday but, jeez, not one Celtic supporter would have saw that coming last night.
A seven-goal hammering of Dundee wipes out the goal-difference advantage Rangers had over us at the top of the league and even though they scraped to a 2-1 win at Kilmarnock, there will be nerves over at Ibrox when they heard of this result.
But what is most pleasing is that every single player in that Celtic team was superb. To a man, it is hard to pick fault in any of their performances.
But Brendan Rodgers reserved special praise for one player and it was one who the Celtic manager admits that was struggling at the start of the season.
Brendan Rodgers was loving Hyunjun Yang’s Celtic performance
The Celtic manager was full of praise for the South Korean last night and specifically mentioned the winger due to his lack of form earlier this season.
Yang looked like a player bereft of confidence when he arrived in Glasgow but last night, he was brilliant and Rodgers had no qualms in pointing that out.
MORE CELTIC STORIES
Rodgers said [BBC Radio Scotland], “I thought Yang was fantastic. Again, great to see him because earlier on in the season he had a problem with the young right wing back because he’s done really well against him.
“But I thought tonight he was very good. Inside, outside he was very creative.
“But overall, it was very pleasing that like I said, the manor of is always important.”
It certainly looks like Yang is starting to find the form that persuaded Celtic to splash out £2m for him in the summer.
And it couldn’t have come at a better time. The 21-year-old looks hungry and brave on the ball now and if he produces that kind of performance against Hearts on Sunday, you wouldn’t bet against the Bhoys coming away from Tynecastle with another three precious points.
Yang Praised For “Fantastic” Display By Brendan Rodgers; Huge Improvements Noticed
Celtic winger Yang has been rightly praised for his man-of-the-match performance in the Hoops’ dominant 7-1 win over Dundee on Wednesday night.
The South Korean internationalist was handed a deserved start after he made an impactful difference against Motherwell on Sunday. This evening, he repaid the faith manager Brendan Rodgers showed in him.

Throughout, Yang terrorised opposition full-back, Owen Beck. He constantly ran at the Liverpool loanee who was linked with the Celts in January.
The 21-year-old set up teenage sensation Daniel Kelly for his first goal in senior football before being subbed off on 76 minutes. After the match, gaffer Rodgers heaped praise on Yang.
The boss noticed the improvements he had made since he last came up against Dundee and Beck: “I thought Yang was fantastic”, he said (BBC Sportsound).
“It was great to see him as earlier on in the season he had a problem with the young wing-back who did really well against him.
“I thought tonight he was very good. Inside or outside he was very creative.”
On Sunday at Tynecastle, Yang is assuredly in line for another start. The right-wing spot is currently his to lose and after his performance tonight, such a fact is understandable.
“It certainly wasn’t what I said to you!” Rodgers ends BBC row humorously
Brendan Rodgers made a rather amusing final remark in his post-match interview last night with Jane Lewis from BBC Radio Scotland after his side hammered Dundee 7-1 with seven different Celtic goalscorers at Celtic Park.

The two were involved in a media storm in a teacup controversy after the Celtic manager used the expression, ‘Good Girl’ at the end of a tense interview at Fir Park at the weekend. This was jumped upon by all sorts of vested interests while the two folk involved didn’t really get what the fuss was all about.
This evening Jane Lewis finished by asking what he’s said to his players that got the brilliant reaction this evening and Rodgers – quick as a flash joked, ‘well it wasn’t what I said to you!” The BBC journalist certainly appreciated the moment.
Here’s how the interview went this evening on a night where Celtic sorted out the goal difference deficit on theRangers who sneaked a 2-1 win down at Kilmarnock to maintain a two points advantage for now.
Cameron Carter-Vickers scores his team’s opening goal during the Scottish Premiership match between Celtic and Dundee at Celtic Park on February 28, 2024.
Jane Lewis: Was it the high level of performance that pleased you the most tonight?
Brendan Rodgers: “Yes. We always look at the performance. You can see players starting to return and how that connects everything in our team. I thought the level of our football for large parts of that was really good.
The speed and touch-pass tempo was excellent. We created a lot of opportunities and what was really pleasing in the second half was that we didn’t get into our comfort zone. We still kept pushing and we were creative.
We had seven different goalscorers which was great as that shows what we want in the team as we need the whole team to contribute goals. Overall it was a fantastic performance and a great result for us.”

Jane Lewis: I know it is all about the squad but your starting eleven were bang on the money, weren’t they? They really set the tone.
Brendan Rodgers: “Yes. It is what has been missing for us all season that connection and the importance of players who have been out. If ever there was a night to demonstrate that it was tonight. Cameron coming back in just frees up other players in areas of the field. I thought Adam Idah was a great reference point for the team. His set-up play and threat when the ball came into the box was great. I thought Yang was fantastic. It was great to see him as earlier on in the season he had a problem with the young wing-back who did really well against him. I thought tonight he was very good. Inside or outside he was very creative. Overall it was very pleasing and the manner of it is always important.”
Adam Idah celebrates scoring his first goal at Celtic Park
Jane Lewis: You had the chance to make changes because you were so far ahead but the tempo did not go down. Nothing was disrupted. How pleasing an aspect was that for you?
Brendan Rodgers: “I said at half-time you can either do one or two things here you can applaud yourself and come in here at full-time and it is still 6-0 and you’d be disappointed. The players showed that drive and determination as we created other opportunities and their goalkeeper made a couple of good saves and we hit the crossbar. It was brilliant for young Daniel Kelly. It is so nice when you get a homegrown player as he has been here since he was eight years of age. I saw him in pre-season and I really like what he has. He has good physicality and he has an incredible attitude for a young player. It was just really about timing for him and to give him the chance to come in and he scored a really good goal.”
Daizen Maeda celebrates his goal with Matt O’Riley
Jane Lewis: There was great energy from the players but there was great energy from the crowd as well. You spoke about that in your pre-match interview and how important was it to see that back?
Brendan Rodgers: “It was very important. Celtic is a club that is all about the players, the manager and the supporters being together, Whoever the manager is. It is so important that you have that. Nights like that took me back to back to when I was first here. That feeling, that football, that level, that performance, that intensity, and everyone enjoying it. We are here to entertain the supporters and we are here to win. Celtic is very much a club about playing a level of football that gets the supporters excited and I think they were that tonight.”

Jane Lewis: Finally was that performance coming or did something spark it? Did you say something in midweek to get the players fired up for this match?
Brendan Rodgers: “It certainly wasn’t what I said to you!”

Green Brigade Release Troubling Footage
In what has become a contentious issue within the Scottish football over the years, the Green Brigade has raised serious concerns over the treatment of fans by police during their recent trip to Motherwell.
As Celtic faced off against the Fir Park club in an SPFL clash, reports of police heavy-handedness have marred the day with troubling footage and images emerging
The Green Brigade took to social media to express their alarm and dismay at the actions observed on Sunday, marking yet another chapter in what is described as a disturbing trend.
25th February 2024; Fir Park, Motherwell, Scotland; Scottish Premiership Football, Motherwell versus Celtic; Blair Spittal of Motherwell celebrates with his team mates in front of the fans after he shoots and scores to make it 1-0 to Motherwell
“Once again, Celtic fans were subject to dangerous police practices at Sunday’s match through the use of excessive force, police horses, and steel pens,” the statement began, laying bare the frustrations felt by many. The account detailed incidents where fans, including a young supporter, were allegedly subjected to undue force. One particularly harrowing account involved a young fan pinned to the ground by an officer, with additional officers exacerbating the situation, leading to the fan’s distress and claims of being unable to breathe due to the pressure applied to his neck.

Another separate incident, as reported, involved a young fan assaulted, resulting in severe physical injuries. These accounts are not just isolated incidents but are symptomatic of a broader issue of criminalisation and antagonism towards football fans, the GB argues.
There’s a growing sentiment that the current approach to policing fans not only undermines the rights of supporters but sows a culture of fear and antagonism, rather than ensuring safety and respect for all.
The core of the Green Brigade’s message is a call to action for Celtic Football Club. It’s a plea for the club to acknowledge its duty of care towards its supporters, who are the lifeblood of the club. The repeated instances of alleged heavy-handedness and the subsequent silence or inaction from those in positions of authority have only served to alienate a passionate and dedicated fan base.
This situation raises pertinent questions about the balance between security and respect for fan rights, the role of football clubs in advocating for their supporters, and the mechanisms in place for addressing grievances and ensuring accountability.
The starkness of the Green Brigade’s experiences and allegations cannot be ignored. They serve as a reminder of the need for dialogue, transparency, and reform in how football fans are treated, both by the authorities and by football clubs themselves.
Brendan Rodgers dealt more bad luck as Celtic man receives injury treatment, out for Dundee
Celtic fans finally have some positivity to work with following the Bhoys’ dramatic 3-1 victory over Motherwell last Sunday.
Republic of Ireland international Adam Idah is the man of the hour following his match-winning exploits, while the likes of Hyunjun Yang and Tomoki Iwata deserve great credit for their role in the comeback at Fir Park
Brendan Rodgers hailed the psychological impact of his side’s late heroics, stating post-match: “it was important for us to get the win today psychologically. There’s a story being written about this club, but we will write our own story.”
Nevertheless, there is no time to waste at Lennoxtown, with the challenge of Dundee making the trip through to Glasgow on Wednesday unlikely to be straightforward.
The Bhoys sit two points behind Rangers with 11 matches left to navigate this term and will be keen to keep the pressure on their rivals, who face Kilmarnock at Rugby Park on the same night.
Everything can change in an instant, signifying that Celtic need to stay on their guard by ensuring they guarantee three points on home soil.
Tickets are still available on the official club website. At the same time, there is a pay-per-view option priced at £12.99 for those who cannot attend the match.
Celtic suffer yet another injury blow this season
Frustratingly, Celtic have suffered another injury blow, which has become a common theme of Rodgers’ second stint in charge at Parkhead.

According to The Daily Record, Polish defender Maik Nawrocki was unable to feature in training on Monday due to a leg issue, which the Bhoys are now looking to find out the full extent of amid the 23-year-old receiving intensive treatment.

Nawrocki is now out for the Dundee clash on Wednesday, which will leave Rodgers needing to assess his other defensive options ahead of facing Tony Docherty’s Dark Blues.

Maik Nawrocki’s frustrating Celtic career continues
Undoubtedly, big things were expected of Nawrocki at Parkhead following his £4.3 million move from Legia Warsaw last summer.
Nevertheless, his Parkhead career has become a source of frustration despite his obvious talent, taking into account the fact he has made just ten appearances in green and white so far [Transfermarkt].
Hopefully, Nawrocki can recover and fulfil his promise, though it does seem like he really can’t catch a break at the moment.

Celtic star Matt O’Riley got an ink-redible new tattoo at an exclusive Glasgow studio recently.
The 23-year-old visited Literal Ink on North Street to go under the needle for two new tattoos.
A video shared by the studio and O’Riley on Instagram shows the midfielder being inked with the designs, which appeared to be a bird and feather on his left arm.
The team at the studio called O’Riley “one of the most humble human beings and a football genius.”
Literal Ink is a members only tattoo and piercing studio in the city, and has previously been visited by fellow Celt Odin Thiago Holm.
‘Big difference’… Adam Idah shares what’s shocked him most on star players in Celtic
Celtic’s man of the moment, Adam Idah, has opened up on what it’s really like to play for the club and it’s fair to say it has been a shock to his system.
The Republic of Ireland international is a hero in the eyes of the fans after scoring two goals against Hibs earlier this season and another double today in the 3-1 win over Motherwell.
However, it was when the team drew against Aberdeen that Idah got the biggest shock to his system and realised just how massive it is to play for a club like Celtic.
Idah said [The Herald], “It is intense in Glasgow. It is such a big club that the demand for winning games is there every single week.
“I am not used to that. There is obviously a big difference between Norwich and here.
“In my first game we played Aberdeen away and when we drew, I thought to myself, ‘OK, that is a decent result’. It definitely wasn’t!
“The demand is what it should be because Celtic is such a big club. The more I’m around the place and the city it’s all football here, which I am loving.
“It’s not like that in England where you can get a draw here and there.

“That’s the big difference for me, which is understandable. It’s a learning curve.
“To have that mentality of needing to win is great and the lads who have been here a while know the score.”
Adam Idah is winning over the Celtic fans
I don’t think it’s too outlandish to say that the jury was still out on the on-loan Norwich man despite his penalty heroics against Hibs.
He hadn’t scored in two games prior to today and after missing a sitter in the draw against Kilmarnock yesterday, Idah still had a lot to do to win over the Hoops fans.
I think it’s fair to say that he has done that with today’s performance at Fir Park and if Idah didn’t realise just how important it is to play for Celtic and the demands of the club before today, he really does now.
Next up for Idah is a trip to Tynecastle next Sunday in a game that he is sure to start. And as every Celtic fan knows, a game against Hearts can be a fiery affair and it is one that Idah is certain to relish.
Marco Tilio wondergoal has Celtic fans united as Melbourne City boss tells Brendan Rodgers how to unlock loanee
The Australian winger managed just 27 minutes of football before returning to the A-League.
Celtic loanee Marco Tilio has kickstarted his career away from Parkhead as he netted a crucial goal for Melbourne City to secure a draw with Sydney FC.
The seven-time Australia cap returned to City on loan after a less than impressive stint with the Scottish Premiership after joining the Hoops last June for £1.5 million. He made just two appearance for Celtic before being sent back to the A-League – and following his return he would insist that an injury sustained before signing his five-year deal had hindered his chances of impressing Brendan Rodgers.
And he has taken his chance away from Celtic Park as he netted first goal at senior level in nearly 10 months at the Allianz Stadium. The strike showed why Celtic were keen to land the 22-year-old in the first place as the winger latched onto a clearance from City goalkeeper Jamie Young.

Tilio then rounded two defenders with a burst of pace before he buried the ball past goalkeeper Andrew Redmayne. The Paramount commentary team were sent into a frenzy by the stunning strike declaring: “Marco Tilio, welcome back to the A-League. Tilio returns from Scotland with a goal.”
The goal left Celtic fans scratching their heads over why the winger was not given a chance at Parkhead – as he racked up just 27 minutes over his two cameo appearances. One Hoops supporter on X quizzed: “Wait, you’re saying we had a winger with an actual end product?”
Another noted a similar feeling over Mikey Johnston’s form for West Brom: “We have 2 wingers we’ve papped out on loan beating defenders and scoring goals.” One chimed in: “Would loved to have seen him get a chance with us.”
One punter added to the demands for game time: “Scoring goals because he’s on the pitch playing. Won’t score many at Celtic sitting in the stands.”
And following the full-time whistle Melbourne City boss Aurelio Vidmar sang the praise of Tilio – as well as offering Brendan Rodgers a clue on how to unlock the potential of the forward. He said: “It’s a great goal. Marco’s first touch sets it all up. Incredible. He hasn’t played for six months give or take. He just needs match rhythm.
“He got 70 minutes last week and we thought at the beginning of the game he would get another 70 minutes, but he looked like he was still going and making runs. Sometimes when you have not played for five or six months it takes you five or six games to find a rhythm”

The Celtic PLC Board will be backslapping over financial results, but for the most Celtic supporters it feels like a slap in the face…

Celtic yesterday announced their eagerly awaited half-yearly financials and it came as no surprise to learn that the club is sitting on a massive pile of cash, which will thrill and delight that curious group of Celtic supporters, the Balance Sheet Bhoys, who will be lapping up the numbers on their spreadsheet and drooling over just how clever Peter and his boys really are.
This week we’ve found ourselves in the position where we are looking for a new goalkeeper after the classy Joe Hart announced his decision to hang up his gloves at the end of this season. I’m surprised that the Balance Sheet Blogger hasn’t quickly suggested sticking his best pal Pistol Pete in the team to replace Hart. Well, he certainly knows how to save! On second thoughts the wages and bonuses would too much even for our remuneration friendly PLC.
David Watson of Kilmarnock scores with a header to tie the score 1-1. Celtic v Kilmarnock, Scottish Premiership, , Celtic Park, 17 February 2024. Photo Stuart Wallace/Shutterstock
Celtic’s revenue increased by 11% to £85.2 million. Profit trading was £32.0 million, and a profit before taxation of £30.3 million. You don’t need to be a financial expert to know that is a healthy figure in this current landscape.
That is good news for those in charge who no doubt amidst some back slapping opened the bubbly and raised a glass to toast yet another healthy bonus heading their way. That’s how it works, right?
But it was ever so touching to read that they were as disappointed as the supporters when they failed to add the required quality to the squad in the January transfer window, after Project Shambles last summer. Yes, it isn’t just about this window, it’s about the one before that, and the one before that too! In my view they’ve taken their eye off the ball and neglected their duties regarding squad improvements for quite some time.

They really do take us for fools if they think we are going to fall for this nonsense. They must think we are as gullible as our rival supporters across the city, we are anything but.
By announcing these massive financial numbers it certainly clarifies the position as we watch a Celtic team showing the quality you’d expect if we were skint and couldn’t afford anything better.
That’s where we started on this PLC lark back in the 1990s and the deal was always the supporters back the PLC and they deliver the team on the park. It now looks like one side of that bargain is being taken for mugs by the other. Our team isn’t strong enough and we lack the required quality and depth which is evident in our performances and current league position.
Celtic supporters make their thoughts clear up at Pittodrie ahead of the first match after the January transfer window closed.
The incoming manager Brendan Rodgers accepted what he was given last summer, after they explained to him how clever they were with this project signing strategy then when he saw what he had to work with he very respectfully made it clear that he was short of four quality signings. Yet they delivered none in January as we watched a ten points swing in the title race where we could be five points behind at kick-off time tomorrow.
The way this Board are lording it up while trying to sympathise and connect with the supporters is a kick in the teeth to each and everyone one of us who have put our hard earned money into the club.
They are the ones reaping the rewards while we get excuses in return, delivered alongside those incredible financial result, numbers actually driven by the outstanding financial support given to the club by the Celtic support. In return get to watch an underwhelming, underperforming side on the pitch, a team devoid of quality and no real hope of improving while they get to enjoy their big fat bonuses.

Was there a note in those figures explaining that not a single penny will be paid in bonuses or dividends this season as a result of the failings to deliver in the key aspect of the club, the team on the park? If not, there should have been.
And there’s nothing on the situation in the women’s game were for every pound Celtic spend on the team theRangers are apparently spending three and they are now eyeing a Double Treble in one season, where we’ll be back to world records and all that stuff and the board’s pals in the mainstream media will be lapping it all up. How many pages do you think the Daily Record’s Special pull-out supplement will be? 16? 24, 32?

It can’t be allowed to continue, we need to push for change and we need to hear from Dermot Desmond.
Talking of Celtic PLC’s biggest shareholder, yesterday after the Interim Results were released, Roger Mitchell posted this on his X account:
“For some reason I get to hear stuff about Scottish football, even here. I was told by two different sources that Dermot Desmond is going to have a total clear-out of the Board and Csuite. He’s had enough they said. I have no idea if this is true but I hope it is. We all love this club.”
Roger Mitchell
The former SPL Chief Executive added: “The board has been in place for 23 years and that is just bad corporate governance. Especially in a sector that is changing so much. Some of the CSuite are frankly less than mediocre. The business of football is markedly different than it was in 2002. The model, fans, comms. The club needs a radical injection of new thinking and energy.”
Then this: “It has major weaknesses in needs to draw a line under. The waft of nepotism…the legal and brand concerns over the Boys Club’…the idea that the club has no ambition beyond beating rangers as cheaply as possible, without killing them.”
The good news is this. It’s got money. Give to Caesar that which is Caesar’s…It’s got a diaspora of management talent all over the world who’d join the board likely for free…it’s got a backstory of glory no one can match. This can be fixed. Easily. If there is will.”
And finally: “Football is entering the End Game. Who knows its future? UEFA and the UCL look tired. There will be environment change. The club needs to be ready and tooled up. The big game and prize is not Scotland. I shall watch with interest.”
Mitchell was asked What is Csuite? He explained: “Ceo CFO CRO director of football. CTO. The senior exec team.”
For some reason I get to hear stuff about Scottish football, even here.
I was told by 2 different sources that DD is going to have a total clear-out of the Board and Csuite. He’s had enough they said.

Make of that what you will. We know that the Celtic support is not happy at the failing in the January transfer window. It’s hard to believe that the manager is happy about it either. The Board’s Chairman yesterday said that they were frustrated and disappointed. What if Roger Mitchell is right and we have a situation where Dermot Desmond is all of those things, angry , disappointed and frustrated? Maybe he will decide to take action?
Or will we say he failed?

JOSEPH MOURINHO TO CELTIC THEORY GIVEN ANOTHER AIRING BUT ALAN BRAZIL CAN NOT SEE FUNNY SIDE AMID HOOPS PLIGHT
Brazil kept his game face on when asked about Celtic…at least until the topic of Ally McCoist giving him pelters came up.
Alan Brazil says he’d love to see Jose Mourinho add some box office appeal to Celtic – but back in the real world, he has a big question for Brendan Rodgers and his flops.
The recent Parkhead plight has been a source of frustration for Hoops-daft radio host Brazil and Thursday morning was no different as he looked ahead to this weekend’s clash with Motherwell.
Depending on Rangers’ result against Hearts on Saturday, there could be a five-point gap between the Glasgow giants before a ball is kicked at Fir Park, and it already looks like a must-win for Rodgers who is coming under serious scrutiny.
The subject of Celtic was light-heartedly brought up on talkSPORT breakfast by co-host Shebahn Ahern, who once again floated the idea of Mourinho replacing Rodgers at Parkhead. But the vacant Bayern Munich job might be more likely for Mourinho – as Brazil kept his focus on the here and now at Celtic Park.
He said: “I would like Mourinho at Celtic…I thought you were going to say he was going to Bayern there! Look, I don’t know what’s happening at Celtic at the moment. Clearly there’s a problem, I might be wrong but I heard there was a problem with the pitch, and Rodgers wanted money for players but didn’t get it.
“These are things I’ve been told that might not be 100 per cent true. What I do know is, look at the results, there’s something not right….”
It was then put to Brazil by co-host Ahern, who initially floated the Mourinho theory on Wednesday night, that they are missing Ange Postecoglou – and added the caveat that injuries haven’t helped. Before getting to that, though, Brazil was more concerned with the ‘pelters’ he’s been getting from one of his pals on the other side of the Glasgow divide…
THE BEST CELTICS STAR PLAYER BEEN CRITICIZED, ALL THROUGH THE SEASON. SAYS BY PETER GRANT
SINCE THIS SEASON: PETER GRANT SAYS IT’S VERY STRANGE THAT 25-YEAR-OLD CELTIC PLAYER IS BEING HEAVILY CRITICISED
The criticism levied towards Celtic and Brendan Rodgers for their performances and collapse in the league is warranted. Let’s not beat about the bush.
To surrender such a commanding lead in such a weak fashion over the course of the past couple of months is unacceptable.
The players must share a portion of the blame, of course, but there is one player that Peter Grant believes is being harshly criticised and the former Celtic hero has been surprised at just how much of the spotlight Greg Taylor has taken.
Grant said [The Go Radio Football Show], “Greg Taylor’s back from injury, you know all these things he’s gone off in the game. It’s weird. Greg’s getting a lot of criticism but I felt when he went off on Saturday, the game changed.
“I don’t mean necessarily with Bernabei coming on, I know he’s getting a lot of criticism, I don’t necessarily mean with that, because of the position that Greg plays and how well he plays it, but that was a blow.
“I know it was probably 60 minutes he’s got to go off, I understand that, but it was a big change in the performance even after that and that’s the fine lines.
“It’s not a team of champions, let’s not be kidded, so it’s gonna be interesting to see how they respond.”
THE GREG TAYLOR CONUNDRUM
Look, I get it. I understand that Greg Taylor is not everyone’s cup of tea and I also get that the Scotland fullback has his weaknesses.
However, the fact remains that when he is out of the team, Celtic are far weaker without him. That fact has been highlighted with the recent performances of Alexandro Bernabei.
Now I get that that could suggest that Taylor is the best option in a position where Celtic are really weak in quality but no one can deny that over the course of the past two and a half seasons, the 25-year-old has been a major contributor to Celtic’s successes.
Having said that, Celtic must strengthen that area of the team. More quality is required even if only to create healthy competition for that position of the team.
Whether that will happen in the summer remains to be seen as it will all depend on whether or not Celtic successfully defend the title and whether Brendan Rodgers is still the manager.

During her appearance on Carlson‘s show Uncensored on X, Stella blasted the UK government for supporting the United States, claiming it would be a “very high-risk moment” for Assange if Britain favours Washington.

“Well, look, we’ve just been in court for two days, and this decision could be the final one. We didn’t know when we were coming into it yesterday whether we would have a decision today, and if the UK decides in favor of the US, then it will put Julien on a plane to the US,” she said.
Notably, Assange has spent nearly five years imprisoned in London’s highly secure Belmarsh Prison. According to sources, after WikiLeaks released Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) hacking tools, then-CIA Director Mike Pompeo discussed with officials the possibility of assassinating Assange under Donald Trump’s administration. He spent a considerable amount of time detained at the Ecuadorian embassy in London.

Stella talks about Mike Pompeo and the murder plot
When Carlson asked her about Pompeo “attempting to murder” her husband, Stella, who is a lawyer and human rights defender, called CIA a “rogue organisation”.
“They are trained to assassinate; they are trained to fabricate information and place it in the media, conduct propaganda warfare, and overthrow governments,” she said.
Assange’s wife chastised Pompeo as “dangerous individual within the CIA”. “And you know, Mike Pompeo’s ability to move around Washington without consequence, I don’t think is because of his attractiveness to the Washington circles, but because there he’s seen as a dangerous person.”
“We know the story about Julian and the murder plot because people within his organization said that he had lost the plot, that he had become obsessed with Julian, that he wanted to kill Julian, and that he was discussing it with the White House,” she added.
Stella blasts UK govt for acting as ‘lap dog’ to the US
Assange‘s wife argues that there will be no more opportunities for an appeal should they lose the current legal battle in the UK. “He can try to go to the European Court of Human Rights, but last year, only one application to the European Court of Human Rights to stop an extradition or deportation was granted,” she stated. Notably, in 2023, 63 applications pertaining to extradition were submitted to the European Court of Human Rights.
Slamming the UK government for acting as a “lap dog” to the US, Stella told Carlson that the European Court of Human Rights “should stop an extradition if the UK finds against him, but it’s not a given”.
“Julian could be on US soil within a matter of weeks,” she continued.
Carlson stated at the start of the conversation that he had just been to the jail where Assange is being held. When the American Conservative speaker questioned Assange about whether he regretted disclosing classified information that belonged to prominent politicians like Hilary Clinton, the founder of WikiLeaks allegedly said, “it was fun.”
Assange won’t know until at least next month if he can fight extradition to the United States on allegations of spying or if his protracted court battle in Britain has come to an end.
Following a two-day hearing in which Assange’s attorneys contended that extraditing him to the USwould result in a “flagrant denial of justice,” two High Court justices announced on Wednesday that they would take some time to examine their decision.
‘Forever downsizing’ ‘manipulating their fans’ ‘What an utter waste’ Celtic PR stunt backfires spectacularly
In times of trouble getting some good news out there to take attention away from the real issues is very worthwhile, it buys time and fools a decent number of people.
During season 20/21 Celtic’s social media team would have been as well going on furlough, with negativity hanging over everything they reverted to wishing obscure former players a Happy Birthday as fans waited for news of change.
The comparisons have been obvious in recent weeks, yesterday the club dug out a feature on the new training complex at Barrowfield with world class and state-of-the-art being used in a similar fashion to the unveiling of Murray Park a generation ago.
Celtic’s Academy and B team will soon have incredible facilities for preparing to face Cumbernauld Colts and Caledonian Braves- along the M8 on Airdrie’s plastic pitch.
Wednesday’s announcement was greeted with no acclaim or fanfare from supporters wise to the tactics of the club.
They know that the club is holding back on the Interim Accounts to 31 December 2023 which will reveal a bank balance of around £100m while the team collapses on the pitch, gift wrapping the SPFL title across the city.In the final week of the transfer window with expectations high for improvements the club revealed that Cameron Carter-Vickers had signed a new contract- a clear signal that there would be very little business completed before the transfer window closed.
Two days after he was pictured in Glasgow the club waited until 10.30pm on Deadline Day to announce the loan signing of Adam Idah. The reaction was almost entirely hostile- the player was excused with the fans hostility all aimed at the Chairman, CEO, Board of Directors and the former CFG Head of Information and Content.

Trust: “Pundit” has confirmed star player low performance in Celtics …
The true cause of Matt O’Riley’s poor performance at Celtic, pundit said his in picture of it,
“He suffers”: Pundit said he is aware of the true cause of Matt O’Riley’s poor performance at Celtic
The form of the Celtic group is some thing that has bothered the fans for a range of months now.
Gone is the fast, free-flowing football that we cherished under Ange Postecoglou and it has been changed with a tons slower tempo and patient build-up by Brendan Rodgers.
Obviously, the damage troubles Rodgers has had to deal with haven’t helped however overall, the supporters are less than impressed with what they have been staring at from their group recently.
The most urgent trouble for the followers is the alarming drop-off of Kyogo Furuhashi. Clearly struggling for goals, Rodgers modified his procedures to accommodate the Japanese striker by playing Adam Idah as a goal man for Kyogo to work off of.
And it has worked. Two dreams in his last two games mean that Kyogo should be about to recapture his exceptional shape but, it seems, that this has been to the detriment of Matt O’Riley. That’s in accordance to pundit, Gordon Dalziel.
Dalziel stated Dalziel stated [Superscoreboard], “When he bought modified into that wide variety 10 position he scored two goals. I’ve stated from day one that Kyogo, for me is an out-and-out striker.
“Brendan Rodgers, at St Mirren, had to alternate information. It wasn’t in reality working and he was once coming in for criticism with his wingers.
“So he determined to go with the two strikers. He received the sport and they played quite well and all and sundry was pretty happy.
“What I idea used to be the difference for me is, Matt O’Riley was in the form of his life. And each and every time I assume Kyogo gets played on that 10, he suffers from it.
“I don’t assume he can make the identical runs, I don’t suppose his timing is right and the whole lot about it short. He sacrifices a little bit of his game.
“But if I was taking part in my strongest side, I would play Kyogo through the middle all day because I suppose he’s such a brilliant participant on the shoulder of defenders and motives so many problems.”
Matt O’Riley’s Celtic form
Out of all the players off form, Matt O’Riley is one that should challenge the Celtic supporters. The 23-year-old has been one of the team’s most terrific gamers over the past two seasons and it did seem like he had kicked on under Rodgers.
But over the direction of the last few games, he has mostly been anonymous. And his goals and assists in the league have dropped off massively.
In fact, you have to go as a long way again as the commencing of January when O’Riley ultimate contributed with a purpose and help in the 3-0 win over St Mirren but considering the fact that then he has mostly been disappointing. [Transfermarkt]
The Celtic guide will be hoping O’Riley turns this round soon due to the fact with 12 games left of the season, the team wishes him to locate his goalscoring touch if they have any hope of winning the league.
‘I can’t see it happening’ – John Hartson had to destroy punter Rodgers’ bizarre plan B
A current episode from Go Radio vividly illustrates the bizarre spectacle that unfolds when passion, nostalgia, and, frankly, a bit of delusion, collide stay on air.
A caller, most likely fueled by a mix of hope and desperation, floated the thinking of Martin O’Neill, the revered former Celtic supervisor (2000-2005), returning to the helm as an intervening time answer have to Celtic and Brendan Rodgers go their separate ways.
O’Neill, whose tenure is fondly remembered for a heroic run to the UEFA Cup final, has on the grounds that navigated managerial waters a ways and wide, from Aston Villa and Sunderland to the Republic of Ireland. The suggestion itself, while a heartening nod to previous glories, borders on the fantastical in today’s context.

Rangers legend Craig Moore, caught in the moment, initially heralded the suggestion as “what a shout that is,” solely to at once tether his enthusiasm lower back to reality. Moore highlighted the monetary impracticality of such a cross by way of paying Brendan Rodgers off, mainly given Celtic’s apparent reluctance to splurge in the switch market.
Adding a layer of credibility to the discussion, Celtic icon John Hartson, who performed underneath O’Neill, expressed scepticism about the feasibility of such a reunion. “I can’t see it happening. “But Michael has thrown the cat among the pigeons there. Celtic fans, get in touch, would you like to see Martin O’Neill back?”
Hartson’s insight gently ushered the dialog from the geographical regions of fantasy back to the harsh mild of day, questioning now not simply the likelihood of O’Neill’s return but the very premise that Brendan Rodgers should be shown the door due to a season’s shortcomings.

The call to axe Rodgers and beckon O’Neill back to the fold is emblematic of the knee-jerk reactions that often pervade football discourse. It overlooks the complicated internet of decisions, strategies, and, indeed, failures that make contributions to a club’s fortunes. Blaming the manager by myself for a terrible season, except scrutinising the roles of these orchestrating the club’s recruitment and overarching policies, is simplistic and unjust.
it highlights the absurdity that football phone-ins can spiral into. The platform, whilst a precious outlet for fan expression, regularly veers into the territory of baseless speculation and wishful thinking. The name for O’Neill’s return, with all due admire to the legendary manager, is a case in point.
As entertaining as these spectacles can be, they additionally replicate a broader longing among fans for instantaneous options and fairy-tale comebacks. The reality, however, is continually extra complex. Football, for all its magic, is grounded in the hard truths of strategy, finance, and long-term planning.
Sutton is correct about Rodgers, but he ignores the board’s leading role in the Celtic disaster
Chris Sutton’s depressing precis of Celtic’s season is accurate enough in that few Celtic supporters will locate fault in what he says however will have plenty of objections about what the former striker didn’t say as he tried to select the bones over a dreadfully inconsistent domestic marketing campaign the place if some thing the consequences have on the total been higher than the performances merit

When Kilmarnock determined to press Celtic high up the park at the weekend with that pleasant header from Kyogo keeping apart the sides, this must have applicable Celtic, who have been complaining about taking part in in opposition to groups with a low block and a parked bus. Yet they had been determined out and discovered out badly when the possibility to punish a crew like Kilmarnock for taking such dangers introduced itself.
While there’s nothing many Celtic supporters will disagree with in what Sutton had to say the day past lunchtime on Sky Sports, as Celtic grip on the title weakened as theRangers moved two points clear with a predictable win against St Johnstone in Perth, it’s what Sutton didn’t say that they’ll have a hassle with.
The Celtic Board misplaced Ange Postecoglou last June. Aaron Mooy determined to retire due to a lower back injury, Carl Starlet used to be allowed to leave, Jota offered to Saudi Arabia of £25m, we had already lost Josip Juranovic and Giorgos Giakoumakis in the January 2023 window and there has been no alternative anywhere near the level of the personnel leaving the building.
Having had incredible success with the good buy buys Reo Hatate and Matt O’Riley, the Celtic powerbrokers reckoned that this was once the way to go and devised a formula and set Peter Lawwell and Gordon Strachan’s (other) son (the one who preceding managed a golf shop) to work to discover from round the world players in their early 20s, paying no extra than £3m in costs and with a wages cap in their remit. And we bought a pile of dross.
David Watson of Kilmarnock scores with a header to tie the score 1-1 during time added on after 90 minutes. The goal stood following a VAR check for a foul. Celtic v Kilmarnock, Cinch Scottish Premiership, Football, Celtic Park, Glasgow, UK – 17 Feb 2024. Photo Stuart Wallace/Shutterstock
The of the two central defenders signed we had one sitting behind Peter Lawwell and Michael Nicholson at the weekend (see picture above) and the different sitting on the bench, and alternatively we had Liam Scales and Stephen Welsh at the centre of our defence.
Reo Hatate and Cameron Carter-Vickers have been massive losses this campaign thorough damage whilst Liel Abada is now not section of the way forward, and it’s practical for these in charge at Celtic to pin that one on the guide the resistance banner from the North Curve in early October.

Brendan Rodgers changed Ange Postecoglou after Celtic officials and Callum McGregor met him in Majorca however he got here returned to a club in transition and without any manage over the transfer business, admitting he’d coach what he’s given, and no doubt he’s heard of how clever Celtic now had been in the transfer market.
The fashion of soccer is nothing like it was beneath Postecoglou, the squad is nowhere close to as right and why Sutton factors the finger of blame at Brendan Rodgers, it’s no longer his who controlled the switch commercial enterprise or is sitting with greater than £7m in the bank. In the January window we bought a striker struggling for a recreation at Norwich and a participant that leads to the conclusion we’ve been shafted by way of Rapid Vienna yet again. Sometimes it helps to have longer recollections in football. Kuhn leaves mny pining for Mickey Johnson!
Kyogo’s now not scoring as many desires this season, yet closing season his assists got here normally from Jota and Hatate, this time around our (millions of) wingers are growing nothing, every and each one is dreadful. After the recreation at the weekend I said Rodgers have to now go 4-4-2 and just no longer start a single winger. Unless something modifications quickly then this league is gone.
Mark Lawwell used to be curiously noticed at the sport at the weekend and acquired an earful. He played a part in recruiting Ange Postecoglou – credit where it is due – but is he the first-class qualified person to build a squad succesful of beating St Johnstone, Motherwell and Kilmarnock at Celtic Park? That’s a fairly low bar but right there we’ve spilled six points.
If arguing the case for the defence then be equipped for the knock-out blow: Mark Lawwell is assisted through the other Strachan boy who would be extra suited to shifts in the Celtic superstore.
Put it this way if his dad wasn’t WGS he’d be nowhere close to the job that he’s currently in and Celtic go on about exceptional practice. It’s superb that these two are depended on but the supervisor we are supposedly paying £3m per 12 months is not.
“The end result yesterday, I don’t suppose it came as a wonderful shock. Celtic have been bang common this season. The wins have papered over the cracks – performances haven’t been there – they’re not a accurate crew this season.
“Everybody talks about the board, signings and this being a long time in the making this precise moment. Brendan Rodgers has to take responsibility. I can’t think of one participant at Celtic who he has expanded – that’s on the manager,” Chris Sutton stated on Sky Sports.
“You seem at the points they’ve dropped domestically in isolation, they’ve been poor. They’ve been outplayed, I cant keep in mind the final time a Celtic team were outplayed in halves of soccer via so many teams. That’s on Brendan. Why is it? We’ve touched on the extensive players before. They have been taking part in speedy and livid below Ange Postecoglou – the manufacturer of football is slow, predictable.

“There isn’t a concern aspect when groups go up against Celtic – groups fancy getting a result. The end result as awful as it used to be wasn’t a fantastic surprise.”

Sutton added: This is on Brendan. Celtic need to be inserting groups away domestically. Since Brendan’s come again all we’ve heard is the need for speed, passing, play. Celtic are predictable.
“You appear at Celtic’s backline – I fancy enjoying against them at my age!”
🗣️ “I can’t think of one player he has improved… Their brand of football is slow, it’s predictable.”

It has to do with mentality: has Rodgers breached a boundary that calls for action?
One comment from Brendan Rodgers honestly ought to be causing panic in the Celtic boardroom this morning.
Most of the issues of this season surfaced in the 1-1 draw with Kilmarnock, the fourth time this season that Celtic have failed to win at domestic in the SPFL, the third time in 4 video games that they’ve failed to beat Kilmarnock.
Four wingers have been used at some point of the fit with barely a single cut-back for strikers to work on, when Greg Taylor went off injured Rodgers turned to Alexandro Bernabei who was restricted to four alternative appearances in the first 1/2 of the season, more often than not failing to make the matchday squad.
Whatever issues are going on at the membership the manager is predicted to get the excellent out of the players, the majority of whom have been worried in triumphing a domestic treble closing season.
A manager has to get the nice out of the 19 players he selects after working with them for a week in training.
With one comment the previous day suggested by The Scotsman it appears that Rodgers has given up on the gamers he selected:
It is not about capability or approach now, it is about mentality. It is about now not letting that man go past you and having that power and composure to play. We saw it the second half, even although we have been now not underneath extremely good strain we kept making it challenging for ourselves.
Questioning the mentality of gamers is a very serious issue, it isn’t something that can be worked on in training.
Throughout soccer the answer in these situations is to eliminate the manager, that is easier to do than clear out a dressing room of players on long time period contracts.
If Michael Nicholson and Peter Lawwell require any proposal into taking tough choices they can appear throughout the metropolis to see what happened when Michael Beale used to be removed before the first spherical of SPFL fixtures had been completed.

Celtic’s Title Hopes Dented: Concerns Over Squad Understanding the Standard
Celtic’s title hopes took a hit with a disappointing 1-1 draw against Kilmarnock, leaving them unable to retake a three-point lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership. Kyogo’s opening goal was not enough as Kilmarnock’s David Watson secured a late equalizer, prompting concerns about the team’s performance.
Rodgers Takes Responsibility, McGregor Acknowledges Concerns
Manager Brendan Rodgers took responsibility for the result, and post-match, captain Callum McGregor addressed concerns about the squad’s understanding of the required standard. McGregor emphasized the need for effective communication to make players aware that a certain standard is essential every time they step onto the pitch.
Communication Breakdown and Unmet Standards
McGregor’s statement raises questions about the communication within the squad and suggests that some players may not fully grasp the consistently high standard expected at Celtic. The skipper acknowledged the recurring situation and hinted at a potential breakdown in conveying the required level of performance to some members of the team.11th February 2024; St Mirren Park, Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland, Scottish Cup Football, St Mirren versus Celtic; Callum McGregor of Celtic
Changes in the Squad and Concerns Over New Names
While there have been a few alterations to the squad from last season to the current one, with new names regularly among the substitutes, McGregor’s comments indicate that there might be a lack of understanding among some players about the club’s standards. Fans are expressing concerns about how the manager is managing and communicating these expectations to ensure a cohesive and high-performing team.
Long-Term Impact on Title Aspirations
With title aspirations at stake, McGregor’s candid remarks shed light on potential issues within the squad. The need for effective communication and understanding of the expected standards is crucial for Celtic to navigate the challenges of the season successfully. The concerns raised by McGregor amplify the urgency for addressing any communication breakdowns and reinforcing a unified understanding of the performance standards required for the team’s success.
‘Fabulous’ – Mikey Johnston’s performance as West Brom ‘enraged’ against Soton left a Sky Sports Pundit speechless
Controversial Incident in West Brom vs. Southampton: Mikey Johnston’s Cross and Handball Shout
In the West Brom vs. Southampton match, Mikey Johnston’s cross that led to a handball incident was praised by Sky Sports pundit Andy Hinchcliffe on 16 February. Johnston’s cross found Darnell Furlong, whose volley was blocked by Jack Stephens’ hand in the Southampton box.
Hinchcliffe described the cross as “fabulous” and acknowledged that West Brom had a legitimate reason to be “enraged” at the lack of a penalty award by the unsighted referee, Sam Allison. The incident occurred in first-half stoppage time and could have potentially changed the course of the game.
While Hinchcliffe sympathized with the difficulty the referee faced in spotting the handball due to Stephens’ body obstructing the view, he highlighted the contentious nature of the situation. Despite the handball shout controversy, Stephens later made an incredible clearance off the line to deny Okay Yokuslu’s header.
Furlong was convinced he had won West Brom a penalty

Mikey Johnston’s Impact at West Bromwich Albion and Celtic Departure

Positive Start at West Brom
Thriving away from the pressure at Celtic, Johnston’s positive start at West Brom provides him with an opportunity to develop and showcase his abilities. ‘He’s a shadow’: John Hartson now says ‘excellent’ 22-year-old player could depart Celtic shortly
John Hartson Raises Concerns Over Liel Abada’s Form at Celtic
Former Celtic striker, John Hartson, has expressed concerns about Liel Abada’s recent drop in form, suggesting that it might be time for the Israeli winger to consider leaving the club if he continues to be excluded from the first team.
Devoid of Confidence
Hartson, speaking on The Go Radio Football Show, highlighted that Abada appears to be lacking confidence and has become a shadow of the player who initially made a significant impact upon his arrival. Despite an impressive start alongside Jota, Abada has faced injury setbacks that have hindered his ability to replicate his earlier form.
The Dilemma for Abada and Celtic
The former Celtic striker emphasized that if Abada continues to be sidelined without featuring in the first team, it might be in the best interest of both the player and the club for him to seek regular football elsewhere. Acknowledging the challenges faced by a player who was once a key contributor but is now struggling to replicate past performances, Hartson suggests a departure could be a viable solution.
Abada’s Impactful History
Reflecting on Abada’s history at Celtic, Hartson acknowledged the player’s pivotal role in Ange Postecoglou’s transformation of the club into record-breaking Treble winners. Abada’s goals and assists played a crucial part in defeating rivals, including scoring in the Scottish Cup Final win over Inverness, contributing to Celtic’s eighth domestic treble.
Hope for a Resurgence
While the prospect of Abada leaving Celtic might have been met with resistance in the past, Hartson suggests that the situation could evolve based on the player’s form and role in the team for the rest of the season. Celtic fans, familiar with Abada’s ability to rise to the occasion when needed, hope for a resurgence that could see him reclaim the impactful role he once held.
As the Abada story unfolds, the outcome remains uncertain, with the possibility of a return to form or a departure for a fresh start hanging in the balance. Celtic supporters, eager for success, remain optimistic about the talented winger’s potential resurgence on the pitch.

‘Superb’… On Sunday, St Mirren manager Stephen Robinson was astounded by a Celtics player who makes £15,000 a week
St Mirren manager, Stephen Robinson, has shared how he was blown away by one Celtic player’s performance in Paisley on Sunday.
Stephen Robinson
Robinson’s side succumbed to a 2-0 defeat to Brendan Rodgers‘ men and whilst The Buddies boss was disappointed to go out of the Scottish Cup, he reserved special praise for Celtic goalkeeper, Joe Hart.
Robinson said [PLZ Soccer], “Celtic defensively, they don’t really get that kind of credit. They are classed as a very good football team.
“But some of the blocks that they made in the six-yard box and Joe Hart, I thought was superb on the day dealing with corners and deliveries into the box.
“And you know, they deserve credit for that as well. At times the two 18-yard boxes is where the difference is between winning and losing football matches.”
A real touch of class and humility from Robinson there. Hart’s performance at St Mirren was, probably, one of his best of the season.
As I spoke about yesterday, the £15k p/w ‘keeper has been criticised for making some blunders earlier this season but of late, he has really shown his value to the Celtic team.
Against Hibs, he made three brilliant saves and at Aberdeen, he made a further two and ten ball recoveries. [Fotmob]
However, against Rangers at Ibrox earlier this season, Hart showed his true value to the Celtic team. His leadership and experience helped coach an inexperienced centre-back pairing of Gustaf Lagerbielke and Liam Scales through a tough afternoon at Ibrox which led to a 1-0 Celtic win.
With his contract set to expire at the end of the season, Rodgers needs to make a decision on the £1m man and decide whether or not he still has a future at Celtic.
Based on the last few performances, it does seem that despite having a career spanning 20 years, Joe Hart still has a lot left to offer.
Ex-Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou is linked to an incredible Premier League move
Ange Postecoglou’s Rumored Move to Liverpool
Recent rumors suggest that former Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou is being considered for the managerial position at Liverpool, following Jurgen Klopp’s announcement of stepping down at the end of the season.

Postecoglou’s Impact at Spurs
Since his move from Celtic to Spurs in the summer, Postecoglou has left an indelible mark on the North London club. He has not only transformed the team’s playing style but has also created a positive atmosphere. Under his guidance, Spurs have gained recognition for their attractive football and are currently competing for a spot in the next season’s Champions League, thanks to their strong performances in the league.
Speculation and Invitation
The speculation regarding Postecoglou’s potential move to Liverpool gained traction when Andy Maher mentioned on SEN 1116 that “Ange Postecoglou’s agent has formally received an invitation to discuss his potential interest in the Liverpool managerial position.” This revelation has added fuel to the ongoing discussions about Klopp’s successor.
Career Milestones and Achievements
If Postecoglou were to take on the managerial role at Liverpool, it would mark another significant milestone in his career. The Australian coach has experienced a meteoric rise, starting from his days in the A-League and J-League to a successful stint at Celtic, where he secured five trophies in just two years.
Stepping into Klopp’s Shoes
Taking over from a managerial giant like Klopp, who led Liverpool to numerous domestic and international triumphs, including the Premier League and Champions League titles, would undoubtedly be a massive step for Postecoglou. The potential move is further complicated by the fact that Liverpool is Postecoglou’s boyhood club, adding a sentimental layer that might make it challenging for him to turn down such an opportunity.
As the managerial saga unfolds over the coming months, the potential shift of Ange Postecoglou to Liverpool will be a storyline worth keeping a close eye on, given its potential impact on both the coach’s career and the future trajectory of the iconic English club.
The Celtic wonderkid whose cost essentially has truly skyrocketed with the aid of 1,267% after leaving in a massive way.
Celtic supporters may have enjoyed the latest sight of academy brain Rocco Vata emerging as a first-team alternative for Brendan Rodgers this year.
The 18-year-old talent has been in five matchday squads for the senior group in 2024 and made two appearances – scoring in opposition to Buckie Thistle in the SFA Cup.
Hopefully, the teenage whiz will be in a position to earn greater minutes on the pitch over the weeks and months to come as he appears to translate his brilliant academy form, with 12 goals in 15 Lowland League fits this season, over to the first-team.
The Hoops will be hoping that Vata can emerge as a everyday for Rodgers subsequently and that they can gain on the pitch from his development.
Whereas, they were now not able to do that with one of the last homegrown wonderkids to come thru their academy as Ben Doak made the jump to be part of Liverpool in the Premier League.
Ben Doak’s market price at Celtic
The Reds snapped him up from the Hoops in March 2022 for a suggested compensation charge of £600k, as he had yet to sign a professional contract with the Scottish giants – due to being sixteen at the time.
He had already made two first-team appearances beneath Ange Postecoglou in the Scottish Premiership at some point of the 2021/22 marketing campaign however that was not enough to convince him to commit his future to the club.
Doak, who used to be once described as “explosive” by way of brain scout Jacek Kulig, used to be spotted by using Liverpool and they moved to take him away from Scotland in 2022 to be part of their academy system.
Ben Doak’s modern-day market value at Liverpool
It is challenging to argue in opposition to that being a exceptional choice for the teenage dynamo as Jurgen Klopp has provided him first-team opportunities and his market cost has soared over the last two years.
At the time of writing (12/02/2024), Transfermarkt fee Doak at a whopping €10m, which is round £8.5m, and that is a fantastic make bigger of 1267% on the £600k that the English giants paid for him.
The 18-year-old gem, who has been sidelined with a meniscus tear on the grounds that December, made five senior appearances for Liverpool throughout the first half of of the season, with three of those coming in the Europa League.
Interestingly, Doak has played more first-team games (ten) for Liverpool than Vata (six) has for Celtic in all competitions, regardless of the Irish teen being seven months older.
The Scotland formative years international, who was once hailed as a herbal “force” through Klopp, has been shown a clear pathway into the senior squad on Merseyside and his soaring market cost displays his wonderful growth down south.
This suggests that there is no reason for Doak to regret his choice to make the go away from Celtic as his profession seems to be heading in the proper course at this moment in time.
Hopefully, the teenage whiz will return from harm and pick out up where he left off as a real choice for Liverpool’s first-team, with a view to incomes a increased function in the future.
Meanwhile, the Hoops might also watch on with a tinge of sadness, at the same time as they have to still be thrilled to see him doing well, as they lost out on having the homegrown dynamo as phase of their personal group moving forward.
Aiden McGeady makes encouraging Celtic title observation after weekend’s events
