£3m Celtic player has failed to convince Brendan Rodgers he’s good enough

Gustaf Lagerbielke has been told that he hasn’t done enough to convince Brendan Rodgers that he’s good enough to play for Celtic.

The Swedish defender has been touted for a move in the January window after less than six months at the club and pundit, Hugh Keevins, says that’s because Rodgers does not rate him.

Keevins said [Clyde SSB], “For me, Lagerbielke’s absence tells you Brendan Rodgers simply does not rate him.

“The whole team that was assembled on Wednesday night was out of necessity born of a squad that is not good enough.

“And I think Brendan Rodgers will be cleaning the place come January. Because it’s not good enough for Celtic.

“And Lagerbielke, the talk last night was Celtic will listen to offers for him.

“He has been, I’m sorry to say, a waste of money.”

After his Champions League heroics on Wednesday night, Lagerbielke inexplicably found himself out of the picture in the matchday squad against Hearts.

MORE CELTIC STORIES

The Swedish Defender of the Year appeared to possibly have turned his luck after his last-minute winner ended Celtic’s Champions League hoodoo but the fans were left perplexed after he was left out in the cold once again this weekend.

Lagerbielke’s time at Celtic does appear to be up. Mark Guidi told two weeks ago how people inside the club told him that the £3m summer signing was deemed not good enough.

Let’s hope Celtic can recoup the majority of the money that’s been spent on the 23-year-old so that Rodgers can reinvest it back in the squad.

Mark Wilson says £37k-a-week Celtic man was the only player trying vs Hearts

Celtic’s defeat at the hands of Hearts, if truth be told, was one that was probably coming. The fans have seen their team struggle against lesser opposition in recent weeks and the result against the Edinburgh club was not entirely unexpected.

That doesn’t meant that the fans don’t have the right to be fuming because they do. Celtic fans don’t mind their team losing, it was the manner of the defeat that angered many as the fans witnessed Brendan Rodgers’ team meekly surrender three points at home.

Former Celtic defender, Mark Wilson, believes that he witnessed just one player trying to dig the Hoops out of the hole they had dug themselves.

The former fullback also said that the rest of the Celtic team were hiding as none of them had the courage to grab the game by the scruff of the neck.

Wilson said [Clyde SSB], “When you look at recent performances they have been an exceptionally poor standard. Of the 45 minutes at McDiarmid Park, that was horrendous, but at least Brendan Rodgers got a reaction.

“It was the opposite at Rugby Park and then arguably even worse today. A bit toothless, it just looks like a team of players looking for somebody else to come up with the goods.

Callum McGregor gave it a shot at the start of the second half, but apart from that, everybody shifted responsibility onto someone else.

“And that’s not a Celtic team that’s going to be successful at the end of the season.”

A £4million Celtic deal is now ‘likely’ and could hasten the fringe player’s departure.

Celtic still have plenty of work to do on the field before the winter break, but the work off the field in January will be just as crucial to the direction of the Bhoys’ season.
