Atalanta submit fresh bid for Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley

Celtic have rejected another bid from Atalanta for midfielder Matt O’Riley.

The Serie A club have submitted three bids already, and all have been rejected.

Fabrizio Romano says that Atalanta have submitted a fresh bid of around £19.7 million to sign the Denmark midfielder.

However, Celtic are insisting that any potential club will have to pay a fee of around £24 million to sign O’Riley.

That means the Bhoys have rejected Atalanta’s fourth bid for the midfielder.

Brighton and Chelsea are also interested in signing the 23-year-old, with the former having already held talks over a move.

During the January transfer window, Celtic knocked back an offer of £20 million from Atletico Madrid for their star midfielder.

Romano wrote on X: “Atalanta sent new bid to Celtic for Matt O’Riley worth €23m. Celtic insist on asking €28m fee for O’Riley. Brighton also remain keen on signing the midfielder.”

Brendan Rodgers has made it clear that Celtic are not looking to sell their star midfielder this summer.

He insisted that the player will not leave on the cheap, and any potential club will have to meet their asking price.

“There are obviously bids that will come in for Matt O’Riley but, I repeat, there is no need for us to sell and we don’t want to sell,” he told Sky Sports News.

“If there’s an offer that comes in that fits the valuation of the player then that’s a different matter.”

O’Riley scored 19 goals and provided 18 assists in 49 appearances for the Hoops last season.

He has started the new season strongly and has set up the second of Celtic’s goals in their 4-0 win against Kilmarnock in their Scottish Premiership opener last Sunday.

The Denmark midfielder is under contract at Celtic until 2027. Rodgers will not want to lose him towards the end of the window, and they may not get enough time to replace him properly.
