Celtic continues their stellar start to the season with ease as they defeat Hibernian.
Celtic has demonstrated a deep comprehension of Brendan Rodgers’ style of play, particularly in the aftermath of their inconsistent performance in the previous season.
Results will always take precedence over performances, but Celtic again produced a strong showing at Easter Road this afternoon against Hibernian.
Even though Rodgers hasn’t added as many players as some may have hoped, he still seems to be making the most of the team he has.
This was made clear early in the contest when Nicolas Kuhn, a January acquisition, opened the score after only three minutes.
Kuhn made an early impression and seems revitalized having spending the preseason at Celtic under Rodgers.
Veteran winger James Forrest, whose Celtic career has changed after being linked to a January departure from the team, picked up the German at the back post for a tap-in.
In the 19th minute, captain Callum McGregor gave Celtic a 2-0 lead. The following week, he declared his retirement from international football.
The Hoops captain made it apparent that his club career is far from over when he witnessed McGregor’s incredible goal, which was witnessed by both John Carver and Steve Clarke.
The game slowed down a bit in the second half, but there were some unanswered questions after a late incident.
Mikey Johnston was taken out by Hibernian goalkeeper Josef Bursik in the box, leaving the Irish winger with a swollen face and a nosebleed.
Many will be curious as to why Johnston was not given a penalty following such a horrific incident.
Once Celtic had exhausted all of their available substitutes, Johnston was used in place of Odin Thiago Holm as part of the new concussion substitution protocol.
Celtic continued to control the game in the second half, setting the pace with ease and preventing any Hibernian attempts to rally. The arrival of replacements just provided more energy, as Reo Hatate completed the victory with an incredible long-range strike that stopped the Hibs goalkeeper in his tracks. With a rising sense of invincibility with every game, Celtic’s most recent triumph not only solidifies their top-of-the-table status but also sends a strong message to their opponents: the Bhoys are in incredible form and look more than capable of recovering the Scottish crown.
