Cowboys injuries: DaRon Bland full practice, Martin, Smith, Ferguson DNP

The Dallas Cowboys continued their rough 2024 NFL season on Monday night with another blowout loss at home, this time to the Houston Texans by a final score of 34-10.

With the loss, Dallas fell to 3-7 on the season and has dropped its last five games. However, the Cowboys suffered some more disappointing news after safety Markquese Bell left the game with a nasty shoulder injury.

Less than ten seconds into the second quarter, the Cowboys scored their only touchdown of the game on a 64-yard catch and run by wide receiver KaVontae Turpin.

On the ensuing kickoff, Texans returner Dameon Pierce received the ball at the two-yard line but muffed it, proceeding to recover and continuing the play. After Pierce scooped the ball up, Bell made an attempt at a tackle, causing his arm to bend in an awkward direction.

Following the incident, Bell was escorted off the field and back into the locker room, holding his arm upright the whole way.

A slow-motion video of the injury was posted online, and the social media doctor claimed it was a “clear anterior/inferior shoulder dislocation” that would likely need surgery and end Bell’s season. The doc was right, and Bell will likely be out for Dallas’ final seven games.

On Tuesday, Dallas special teams coach John Fassel discussed Bell’s injury. When asked how big of a blow it is to lose a player like Bell. Fassel appeared to get emotional.

“He’s put as good a special teams ball through ten games as I can remember,” Fassel said after collecting himself. “I mean, man. He got hurt doing what he does best, just flying in there, diving. He’s going to be okay… Damn, I’m hurting for him because he was on a mission. He was as good as we’ve had in a while.”

Bell played a significant role on the Cowboys’ defense during the 2023 season, recording 94 tackles, good for second on the team, four passes defended and two forced fumbles. However, the former Florida A&M star took a back seat in 2024 but found a major role in Fassel’s special teams unit. His injury is another unfortunate blow for the Cowboys.

Michael Irvin says 1 scenario would make Deion Sanders take Cowboys job

The chances of Deion Sanders becoming the next head coach of the Dallas Cowboys seem quite slim at the moment, but Michael Irvin says there is one move the team could make if they want to change that.

During a Tuesday appearance on Colin Cowherd’s FS1 show, Irvin was asked if he believes Sanders would take the Cowboys head coach job if Dallas were to draft Deion’s son Shedeur. Irvin said there is a 100 percent chance Deion would want to coach the Cowboys if that were to happen. The Hall of Fame wide receiver added that “great sources” have made that clear to him.

Irvin, who was teammates with Sanders in Dallas in the late 1990s, recently interviewed Sanders on FS1’s “Speak.” When Irvin brought up the chatter linking Sanders to the Cowboys, Coach Prime quickly shut it down by repeating a six-word response. There was also a recent report that Sanders is not willing to entertain any conversations about coaching in the NFL at this time, as he is focused on the great season his 8-2 Buffaloes are having.

Shedeur, who is Colorado’s quarterback, is expected to be a top-five pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. It is not out of the question that the Cowboys will secure one of those picks, but they have Dak Prescott locked up for several more years. There is virtually no chance Dallas would draft Shedeur that high.

Irvin’s big claim is probably moot, and he knows that. Judging by some of the things Deion has said in the past, it is fair to wonder if he wants to coach in the NFL at all.

Dallas Cowboys Mike McCarthy Is The Best Bet For The Next Head Coach To Be Fired

The Dallas Cowboys are currently playing the Houston Texans, and if the result holds, the Cowboys will find their seventh loss of the season.

Dallas is already out of the playoff hunt, and head coach Mike McCarthy is trying to save his job with backup quarterback Cooper Rush since Dak Prescott is out for the year with hamstring surgery.

There have already been a few head coaching firings in the league this season, with the New York Jets letting go of Robert Saleh and the New Orleans Saints saying goodbye to Dennis Allen. There is a chance McCarthy will be next.

According to Odd Shark, the new favored head coach to be fired next is Jacksonville Jaguars Doug Pederson at -125, but McCarthy is at +600, which is the fourth highest odds, and the Odd Shark has him as the best bet for the next head coach to be fired and stated. 

A 47-9 shellacking at the hands of the Detroit Lions in Week 6 has moved Mike McCarthy to the forefront of the NFL next head coach fired conversation. The Dallas Cowboys have looked awful this season.

Mike Zimmer’s defense has surrendered a total of 464 rushing yards against the Saints and Ravens. On top of that, Dallas fell behind 28-6 heading into the fourth quarter of their Week 3 contest with the Ravens, after being blown out by the Saints the week before. Their defensive line is in shambles, players are continuously out of position, and they have few real options at linebacker to speak of. Dallas was bailed out by the poor play of Daniels Jones in Week 4, as he failed to hit Malik Nabers for a game-changing touchdown.

A Week 8 loss to the San Francisco 49ers has done little to help matters. McCarthy’s offense looks completely discombobulated. Dallas’ offensive struggles are reminiscent of McCarthy’s final days in Green Bay when his offense repeatedly ran the same concepts and failed to launch.

The Cowboys roster is littered with playmakers on both sides of the football. So there’s no reason for Dallas to be losing football games in this manner. If these mistakes and poor all-around play continue for another week or two, it won’t be long before owner Jerry Jones makes the call. An uninspiring loss to the Falcons has done little to help McCarthy’s cause. With Dak Prescott on the bench with a hamstring injury, the Cowboys are very likely to continue to lose. At +600 I love the odds on McCarthy to be the next head coach fired. Could Jones lure Lincoln Riley, who’s struggling at USC, to Dallas?

Dallas will move off of McCarthy this season, but it will be when they make the move. The 61-year-old head coach can’t return back to the Cowboys after how last season ended and how this one is going, and he most likely has coached his last year in the NFL.

Let’s see who is on the top of the Cowboys coaching list this offseason, and maybe one Bill Belichick will return and try to take the team back to the Super Bowl.

Watch Derek Barnett take over for the Texans in fourth quarter vs. Cowboys

Derek Barnett atoned for an earlier mistake by putting the game away for the Houston Texans with a sack and defensive touchdown.

Derek Barnett has had quite the second half for the Houston Texans against the Dallas Cowboys. During the third quarter of their Monday Night Football showdown, Barnett was flagged for a head slap while attempting to block a 64-yard field goal from Brandon Aubrey.

The Dallas kicker knocked it through the uprights, which would have made it 20-13. The Cowboys decided to take the penalty and went for seven, but wound up turning it over on downs.

Houston was unable to capitalize on offense but Barnett ended up taking over. The veteran defensive end recorded a strip sack on Cooper Rush. The ball was originally recovered by Tyler Guyton, but he fumbled it as well, leading to a 28-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown.

Barnett continued his strong performance on the following drive as well. He was able to draw a flag on Asim Richards for holding, which negated a fourth-down conversion from Rush to Ryan Flournoy.

Houston suddenly had a 27-10 win and seemingly put an end to their second-half struggles. Over the past several weeks, they’ve been unable to hold teams off, including in Week 10 when they lost to the Detroit Lions on a last-second kick despite going to the half with a 23-7 lead.

The Texans have left some plays on the field, including a 77-yard touchdown on the first snap that was negated due to a penalty. Still, they’re well on their way to a 7-4 start while also ending their two-game skid

Ryan Clark drops blatant Jerry Jones take about intentionally ‘wrecking’ Cowboys

Ryan Clark took a hard stance on Jones’ management of the Cowboys.

The Dallas Cowboys did not have the start to the 2024 season they hoped for. The Cowboys possessed a 3-5 record going into their Monday Night Football matchup against the Houston Texans, which placed them second to last in the NFC East. Jerry Jones’ management of the team has been questioned amid their cold streak and former NFL safety-turned ESPN analyst Ryan Clark dropped a bold take on Jones.

Clark feels Jones has played an intentional role in the Cowboys’ 2024 downfall:

“I believe the offseason was baffling for us all,” Clark said on ESPN’s Monday Night Football Countdown. “It was a conversation we continue to have. Obviously, the outside perception is, ‘Why are you talking about the Dallas Cowboys all day?’” Number one, because the Dallas Cowboys talk about the Dallas Cowboys all day, so you actually give us something to talk about. And one of those things said by Jerry Jones was that they were going to be ‘all in.’

“And now all we’ve gotten this season as this team has continued to regress … all we’ve gotten is excuses. We haven’t found any solutions. We haven’t found any answers.”

Ryan Clark took a strong stance on Jerry Jones’ handling of the Cowboys. He further proved his point by using an interesting metaphor from his playing days.

“I had a homeboy one time in training camp and he was going to miss curfew,” Clark added. “And on the way back, he just wrecked his car on purpose. Because he said, ‘If I wreck my car on purpose, at least I’ve got an excuse why I’m not here.’

Things may be rough for Dallas at the moment, but surely, Jones and the rest of the team’s leadership will find a way to spark some momentum going into the last part of the season.

Texas bragging rights, and little else, on the line tonight

Two teams riding losing streaks will enter. Only one, probably, will exit with a one-game winning streak and bragging rights for Texas.

Barring, of course, a tie.

The way the Dallas Cowboys season has been going, nothing can be ruled out.

The Cowboys, with a four-game losing streak in tow, will host the Houston Texans in tonight’s Monday Night Football game. Dallas is 3-6 going into the game.

With nearly a third of the roster showing up on the injury report this week, and an 0-4 record at home this year, there seems little reason for hope.

The Texans are 6-4, having lost their last two games, but still remain in first place in the AFC South division.

They are also coming off of embarrassing back-to-back performances.

With Dallas’ offense in disarray, and the Texans defense coming off a five-interception effort last week, the Cowboys are underdogs at home. How can they pull off the upset?

Be Lion-like On Defense

The Texans had Detroit on the ropes last week. Jared Goff was hitting defensive backs more than he was his own receivers.

In the second half though, the Lions’ defense took over and kept the Texans’ offense under wraps.

Detroit’s offense finally got started and they pulled off a come-from-behind win.

That’s the blueprint tonight for Dallas.

First, don’t get behind early again. But get the defense to keep C.J. Stroud, Nico Collins, and running back Joe Mixon in check.

Meanwhile, whoever is at quarterback, be it Cooper Rush or Trey Lance, needs to take care of the ball and put points on the board.

A low scoring game favors the Cowboys. If the Texans start lighting up the scoreboard like a Vegas slot machine?

It’ll be lights out again for Dallas.

And the boo birds will be busy in the second half.

The Prediction

The Cowboys are just too banged up right now. The fact that they have little to no depth is manifesting itself massively.

The good news is: We won’t have to worry about CeeDee Lamb losing a Cooper Rush pass in the sun tonight.

Ahead Of Schedule

The Cowboys and Texans have played just six times before tonight’s game. This dates back to Houston’s first-ever game on Sept. 8, 2002.

The Texans won that game, 19-10.

The team had played once every four years since. Dallas won three straight, 2006, 2010, and 2014, before the Texans won 19-16 in 2018.

The last meeting back on Dec. 11, 2022, ended with a 27-23 Cowboys win.

Tonight’s game will be the first to be scheduled after just two years since the prior meeting.

The Cowboys are 4-2 overall and 3-0 at home. They are 2-0 in games against Houston inside AT&T Stadium.

Week 11 History

Dallas comes into tonight’s game with a 34-26-2 record all-time in Week 11 games. They had two bye weeks fall on Week 11 in 2013 and 2014.

They are 17-10-1 when those games are played at home.

Dallas is 4-1 at AT&T Stadium in Week 11.

Tonight’s game will be the first Week 11 home game for the Cowboys since a 37-9 loss to the Eagles back in 2017. Dallas has played six straight road games on Week 11 since.

The Cowboys went 5-1 in those games and won the last two straight.

This will be the first ever Week 11 meeting between the Texans and Cowboys. But it will be the third meeting between the Cowboys and a team from Houston in Week 11.

Dallas won the first meeting, 10-0, in Houston against the Oilers back in 1974.

The Oilers won 26-23 in overtime in Week 11 back in 1991 at Texas Stadium.

Cowboys 2 Insiders Reveal Deion ‘Interest’ Blockbuster Move News

FRISCO – Everybody is entitled to their own opinion and everybody is entitled to their own agenda. But at CowboysCountry.com, the facts trump both “opinions” and “agendas.”

So we are going to continue to tell the truth: The Dallas Cowboys will almost certainly have a new head coach in 2025. And there no present plan to hire Deion Sanders as his replacement.

Our Mike Fisher has for months offered details backing up those two facts.

The first fact and details: Mike McCarthy entered this year as a lame-duck coach in what the franchise privately plotted to be a “Blow It Up” season in preparation for a remodel in 2025. Arguably, through no particular fault of his own – except for supervising the shocking playoff loss to Green Bay to end last season – McCarthy does not figure in Dallas’ future plans.

The second fact and details: The Cowboys have long been linked to two big names as potential replacements, Bill Belichick and Deion Sanders. Belichick and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones have spent the last year dropping hints and playing media “footsie” to help feed the idea … adding to the concept’s viability.

But we asked Sanders about making the jump from being the University of Colorado head coach to moving to the NFL, Cowboys or otherwise. His answer was clear.

“I don’t have any desire or ambition to coach in the NFL,” Sanders said to us. (See the entire video here.) “I have a problem with men getting their checks and not doing their jobs. I would be too tough as a coach in the NFL because I still have those old-school attributes.”

Fish, who has covered the Cowboys for 35 years, has carefully noted that this is “a never-say-never league,” and that Jerry’s money or Deion’s ego or the fact that the Sanders kids are moving to the NFL next spring could change things – but that Deion deserves to be taken at his word here.

Now along comes a national media voice to chime in with Fisher in The Athletic’s Dianna Russini.

“Coach Prime isn’t landing at The Star,” Russini wrote. “The 57-year-old coach and Pro Football Hall of Fame cornerback has said publicly he wants to stay in college football, despite some theories that Jerry Jones is targeting his former star.”

That doesn’t have to be the end of the speculation or the opinions or the agendas. (We certainly respect Michael Irvin’s urging of Jones to hire best pal Deion). But facts are facts, and Russini offers another powerful one that goes beyond Dallas.

“As of now, I have not spoken to a team decision-maker interested in bringing Sanders in as an NFL head coach,” she writes.

At the risk of “burying the lead,” that’s a blockbuster … except for the fact that given Fisher’s report on Sanders not wanting to move … why would teams who respect his word put him high on their wish list?

NFL Week 11: Texans at Cowboys — Four Things to Watch For

The Houston Texans season has evolved into quite the conundrum over these last four weeks, as on the one hand, they’ve lost three out of four games and begun to see fan confidence in DeMeco Ryans and the team, at the very least, flutter a bit. On the other hand, their one win in that timeframe was over the Colts, giving them a two game lead in the division and a 94 percent chance of making the playoffs.

In short, this is a team who is a lock to make the playoffs, less than two years removed from being one of the complete laughingstocks of the NFL. Yet, indeed, some people are very upset. They’re upset at losing to the Jets a couple weeks ago, upset at blowing a huge lead to the Lions on national TV and upset that C.J. Stroud is on track to die from blunt force trauma, due to inept offensive line play, by Week 15.

So what’s the perfect elixir for all of the mixed emotions? How about beating the ever loving dog crap out of the Dallas Cowboys! On national TV, no less! That’s the opportunity in front of the Texans right now, as they face a downtrodden and dysfunctional Dallas team, that sits at 3-6 and will be missing QB Dak Prescott, who is done for the season with a hamstring injury.

The Texans are 7.5 point favorites on the road, which is just crazy to even type. Here are four things to watch for on Monday night in this matchup:

4. Heat up Cooper Rush
It will be backup QB Cooper Rush under center for the Cowboys. Last week at home, versus Philadelphia, Rush was pitiful, throwing for just 66 yards, but as a starter in Dallas, when he’s been needed, his record is a stellar 5-2. The Texans have had one of the best pass rushes in football all season long. Even without Will Anderson last week (and Anderson is expected to miss Monday’s game) against Detroit, the Texans put constant heat on Jared Goff, forcing a VERY uncharacteristic 50 percent completion percentage. In two other games this season, against Buffalo and Indianapolis, the Texans have forced completion percentages in the low 30s. We have every reason to believe that life for Rush will be miserable on Monday night.

3. Smother CeeDee
There are only two players on the Cowboys who can go win this game for them, and CeeDee Lamb is one of them. (We’ll discuss the other in a moment.) The fifth year wide receiver is one of the supreme play makers in the league, but he has no help in the offensive weapons department. Last week, against Philly, Lamb had six catches for a paltry 21 yard total. Whether it’s putting Derek Stingley on Lamb, or bracketing Lamb with double coverage, the Texans know that he is the head of the snake, and if they take him away, it’s going to be a long night for the Cowboys.

2.  Sevens, not threes
The Texans have had issues scoring in the second half this season, we know that. It’s been over a month since they scored a second half touchdown. That has to get fixed, or the season will be over after the first playoff game. On Monday night, though, whether it’s the first half or second half, the Texans need to cash in on their red zone opportunities, getting seven points instead of three, particularly early in the game to put added heat on the Cowboys’ woeful offense. The Cowboys’ defense is last in the league in red zone defense this season, so this should be a good “get well” night for C.J. Stroud. Also, getting a healthy Nico Collins back should help.

1. Find Micah
Yes, that’s the one other dude who can wreck this game for the Dallas Cowboys, defensive end/linebacker/everything Micah Parsons. Parsons has been injured with a high ankle sprain for most of the season, but returned last week, and had two sacks versus the Eagles. DC Mike Zimmer will move Parsons all over the place to get him into favorable matchups. We all know how poorly the Texans have protected Stroud this season. They cannot allow Parsons to cause turnovers that create short fields for this Cowboys offense, and get the crowd into the game. Cowboy fans have quit on this team, so don’t give them a reason to reverse their quitting stance. Take away Parsons!

Superstar 27-TD Running Back Sends Strong Message on Joining Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys have no shortage of needs to address this offseason, even while rumors swirl about potential head coaching candidates. Even if the Cowboys move on from head coach Mike McCarthy, Dallas is going to need to bolster multiple positions on the roster, including running back.

Boise State star Ashton Jeanty is projected to be the top running back selected in the 2025 NFL draft. Jeanty is already making his case to be selected by the Cowboys.

“If I could script it, my family is all in Texas,” Jeanty explained on the November 12, 2024, edition of “Kickin’ It With Dee.” “I used to play in the Cowboys practice stadium.

“So, family being there, all the connections, all the relationships, I feel like that would just be the perfect city to play in. …Hey [Jerry Jones], you know what to do.”

Potential Cowboys RB Ashton Jeanty Is Approaching 2,000 Rushing Yards & Has Already Posted 27 Touchdowns

The Cowboys have relied on a rotation of Rico Dowdle, Ezekiel Elliott and Dalvin Cook with mostly underwhelming results. Heading into Week 11, the Cowboys were averaging just 83.7 rushing yards per game which is the second lowest among NFL teams.

Dallas opted to pass on taking a running back in the 2024 NFL draft, but will get a do-over in April. Jeanty is putting up video game numbers this season at Boise State which has put the playmaker among the top Heisman Trophy contenders.

Through the first 12 weeks of the college football season, Jeanty has 256 carries for 1,893 yards and 26 touchdowns. Jeanty has also added 17 catches for 98 receiving yards and a TD through the air.

If the Cowboys want to land Jeanty, it will likely need to be with the team’s first-round pick. Athlon Sports’ Luke Easterling has the Cowboys selecting Jeanty with the No. 11 pick in his latest mock draft.

“Jerry Jones made the mistake of ignoring the running back position this past offseason, and his team is paying the price with an unbalanced offense that puts way too much pressure on a lackluster passing game,” Easterling wrote on November 14.

“This is early for a running back, but Jeanty is the kind of prospect who is worthy of this spot. He’s a three-down back who excels at creating extra yards and big plays after contact.”

For context, Easterling has Jeanty as the only running back being selected in the first round. Yet, it looks like Dallas would need to snag Jeanty early in order to have a chance at landing the Boise State playmaker.

This would mark the earliest the Cowboys have selected a running back since taking Ezekiel Elliott with the No. 4 pick in the 2016 NFL draft. As for Elliott, the star’s return to Dallas after one season with the New England Patriots has not gone as planned.

Elliott is averaging a career-low 3.2 yards per carry this season. Even if the Cowboys pass on Jeanty, Dallas will likely be in the running back market with one of their day-two selections.

There is no way the 61-year-old head coach will be on the Cowboys sideline in 2025, and knowing Jones, he will want to make a crazy splash for his new head coach.

A report dropped this week from ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler said that Oregon’s head coach, Dan Lanning, has been mentioned around the NFL for the last few weeks as a name that could be in the 2025 head coaching cycle.

The college-to-pros coaching pipeline has slowed a bit, save Jim Harbaugh. But a name that a few people around the league have brought up to me in recent weeks: Oregon’s Dan Lanning.

Lanning is an upcoming coach in the sport and is only in his third season as the head coach at Oregon. He is building a winning culture, so there is a great chance he will stay with the Ducks, but if he doesn’t, the Cowboys could be the team that lands him.

Seeing Lanning head to Dallas would be awesome, and the Cowboys should do everything they can to land the 38-year-old head coach.

Lanning is a winner and has coached both under Nick Saban and Kirby Smart, so the Cowboys would be getting a guy who knows what it takes to win every time you step onto the field.

Our latest mailbag features plenty of questions about the Dallas Cowboys

Every week, we take questions on X (Twitter) and Facebook about Dallas Cowboys players and other issues surrounding the team. So let’s get right into it.

If it comes down to trading talent for draft picks to rebuild. Which 2 or 3 players do you trade?

Mike: You have to look at who’s underperforming this season and has some value. Terence Steele is the first guy on that list, the issue is his $16 million average a year salary, that could be a hard sell. Donovan Wilson could be an interesting trade. To get something for him knowing Dallas has depth at the position would be a good move. Deuce Vaughn is a name we’ve heard very little. He may not offer a great amount in trade value but he could help Dallas move up a few picks in later rounds to get a better player.

People want to trade Micah Parsons and ok, I get the premise and feelings here. But Parsons is wildly productive at one of the most important positions to fill. He comes back after missing weeks with injury and shows off those skills sacking Jalen Hurts twice and causing a fumble. You cannot give that away.

Dana: Since the trade deadline for 2024 has passed, the next trading period begins in March after the 2024 contracts expire. The Cowboys have a lot of players that will be free agents come 2025, making them unavailable for a trade. With the guys remaining, I prefer to keep the stars and build around them. For trade options, look to get some value from players who just haven’t been able to reach their potential in Dallas. Players like Luke Schoonmaker, Mazi Smith, and Terence Steele come to mind when. Those types of trades wouldn’t bring in very high draft picks, probably getting the most value out of a Steele trade than the others.

If Cooper Rush has another game like this last one would you guys be inclined to at least give Lance a tryout or just suck it up for the remainder of the season?

Mike: Rush has the coach’s respect at this point based on his history holding the fort for this franchise. How long or short that leash is on Mike McCarthy and his decisions, but you do have to wonder if Rush plays as badly as he did last week whether McCarthy’s decisions get made for him. The passing wasn’t great from Rush, but the turnover are the biggest concern. If Rush has another nightmare game like that then expect Lance to be the starter.

Dana: Even if Cooper Rush doesn’t have another game like last one, I would be inclined to give Lance a tryout. With the Cowboys five games behind second place in the division, it is unlikely that the Cowboys will be able to make a run for the playoffs. The Cowboys traded a fourth-round pick to acquire Lance, and it will be one final test to see if he shows potential to possibly keep him around as a QB2 going forward. Now, starting Lance could run the risk of other teams pursuing him in free agency, but that’s a risk I’d take at the moment. Rush has been a serviceable backup but the team already knows what they have in Rush. Let’s find out for certain what they have in Lance.

Mike: Simple answer here, yep. McCarthy stated in a press conference this week that Rush is going to be the starter. What was also stated by McCarthy was how he felt they didn’t do enough to help Rush or to help him get in rhythm. That being the case that can only mean they are going to patient with Rush to help him find his groove.

Dana: Yes. The fans have been pretty vocal about wanting to see what Trey Lance can do the rest of the season and the Cowboys added Will Grier to the practice squad as another potential option. However, Mike McCarthy has confirmed that the plan for this week is to start Cooper Rush against the Texans on MNF. In interviews this week, both McCarthy and Brian Schottenheimer reiterated that while Rush’s performance against the Eagles was underwhelming, the blame spreads across the entire offense and everyone needs to play better. One caveat here is that Rush did pop up on the injury report with a neck issue. That will be something to monitor as the game gets closer. Assuming he is healthy, Rush and the offense will have another chance this week. However, McCarthy may be a bit quicker to make the change if things do not start out well.

On SI’s Josh Sanchez explained succinctly why Deion Sanders won’t be leaving the Colorado football program for the Dallas Cowboys: Coach Prime doesn’t do well with institutional intervention, and Jerry Jones would give him far more of that in a day than he’d get in Boulder over his career.

Not to mention, Sanders is already a legend in Colorado. He’ll always get adulation for what he’s done to the Buffs off, and now on, the field.

“Coach Prime has taken the Buffs from a 1-11 team before he arrived to an 8-2 program in the mix for the College Football Playoff. He is already a Colorado legend, so why leave for a job where an unpredictable owner will hover over you and the pressure to make an immediate impact could hurt your coaching reputation? No smart man would take the job,” Sanchez wrote.

Sanders was linked to the Cowboys on November 15 when Michael Irvin said, with Jones next to him, that he’d have a talk with Dallas’s ownership group during a live interview on the Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson fight broadcast.

“Everybody loves Mike [Tyson], but everybody loves and respects Jake [Paul] also for what he’s done here. To have an ability to not go the normal route and still end up right here. You give him respect. I give him respect like I give my great guy Deion Sanders, who didn’t go the normal route. Who I’m gonna be in Jerry’s ear about later. That’s just something else we’re talking about,” Irvin said.

Irvin saying that on the broadcast was shocking and put some doubt on Coach Prime’s future in Boulder into Buffs fans everywhere. Was he given the OK to do so by Jones? Who knows.

But if he was, then Jones may have been looking to put Coach Prime and his Colorado program over. Because Jones and Sanders are very likely on the same page that a union is not happening

Mike McCarthy Replacement Candidates: Who Will Coach Dallas Cowboys Next?

It’s no secret that Mike McCarthy is on the hot seat. The Dallas Cowboys are in the midst of a forgettable season, sitting at 3-6 and with starting quarterback Dak Prescott sidelined the rest of the season.

Now, much attention is on who may be the Cowboys’ next coach. Yes, McCarthy is still under contract, but his five-year deal expires at the end of the season. This is a very similar situation to the Jason Garrett era, as owner Jerry Jones—despite running the most valuable franchise in the world—refuses to buyout coaches early.

Garrett entered the 2014 season as a “lame duck,” but earned a five-year extension after leading the Cowboys to a 12-4 record and NFC East title. Garrett faced the same situation in 2019, but didn’t get an extension after posting the fourth 8-8 season of his tenure.

Jones continued the trend of coaches entering “lame duck” seasons with McCarthy and his staff in the final year of their contracts. All signs point toward McCarthy’s fate being that of Garrett following the 2019 season.

With that being said, who could the Cowboys turn to in 2025? Jones provided the latest fodder when he was asked about former tight end Jason Witten being a future NFL head coach during a radio appearance on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas.

“Yes, without hesitation,” Jones told the station on Friday. “He has something that you can’t draw up. He reminds me a lot of our other tight end, who is head coach up there in Detroit right now [Dan Campbell].”

Witten is currently coaching at Liberty Christian High School in Argyle, a Dallas-Fort Worth suburb, leading the school to a state championship in 2023. Witten, for all of his accolades as a player, has never coached at the NFL level. Campbell, on the other hand, had 10-plus years coaching in the league before being handed the reins in Detroit. Simply put, it would be quite the jump for Witten.

Deion Sanders is another former player who has been mentioned as a candidate, as he’s enjoying success in the college ranks. Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, who finished his playing days with the Cowboys and then served as a coach, including as the team’s offensive coordinator from 2019-22, has been a favorite of Jones. Another name worth mentioning is Kliff Kingsbury, the Commanders’ offensive coordinator and former Cardinals coach.

Of course, Bill Belichick will always be listed among the possibilities. He’s the greatest football coach of this generation, and it’s easy to wonder what could be with him becoming the Cowboys coach. But Belichick also had losing seasons in three of his last four years in New England.

All of those names mentioned will create plenty of talk show segments and buzz. And with Jones making the ultimate decision, who knows? Maybe one of them emerges as the next coach.

However, there is one name that would make more sense than anyone mentioned—former Titans coach Mike Vrabel.

Vrabel is the betting favorite to become the next Cowboys coach. Vrabel would be widely viewed as a home run hire, too, as he won two AFC South titles and reached the playoffs three times in six seasons with the Titans.

Plus, Vrabel would be the first defensive-minded head coaching hire the Cowboys have made since bringing in Wade Phillips in 2007. They’ve since tried the promising up-and-coming offensive guru (Garrett) and then brought in a proven winner (McCarthy). Both had success to varying degrees, but the Cowboys are going on 29 years since reaching the Super Bowl.

The Cowboys have cycled through six coaches in that timeframe. Maybe Lucky No. 7 returns the franchise to glory.

Cowboys injuries: Jourdan Lewis, DaRon Bland ruled out; CeeDee Lamb questionable

After an eventful night at AT&T Stadium that hosted an exhibition bout between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson, the Dallas Cowboys were back at work for their final practice before their clash against the Houston Texans. Much like last night’s combatants, the Cowboys are going to have to push through the adversity and see if they can go the distance to outlast their cross-state rivals. Here’s what we know about Dallas’ injury status before Monday night’s game.

In a surprise, CeeDee Lamb is listed as questionable after being listed as limited today. Hunter Luepke is doubtful.

Micah Parsons, who attended last night’s festivities, was a full participant today and will play against Houston. DaRon Bland (foot) and Jourdan Lewis (neck) didn’t practice Saturday and were ruled out. Guard Zack Martin (shoulder) was limited today and is listed as questionable. Calen Carson (shoulder/illness) was fully involved today and is on track to play. DeMarvion Overshown (knee) has been removed from the injury report and carries no injury designation for Monday. Eric Kendricks and Tyler Guyton were both full participants on Saturday with respective shoulder injuries and good to go.

For the Texans:

The #Texans are listing Kamari Lassiter as questionable. He has a chance to play if he clears protocol.

Nico Collins no designation. He’s back.

Cornerback Kamari Lassiter was listed as questionable, as was Jeff Okudah. Folorunso Fatukasi did not practice this week, and was ruled out with a foot injury. Will Anderson Jr. (ankle) has not practiced this week and has been ruled out. Tackle Blake Fisher has also been ruled out. Nico Collins (hamstring) practiced fully on Saturday and will play.

HOUSTON (AP) — Houston Texans wide receiver Nico Collins expects to play Monday night against the Dallas Cowboys after he missed five games with a hamstring injury.

“I feel like myself,” Collins said Friday. “I feel like that was the main part.”

Collins led the NFL with 567 yards receiving when he was injured on a 67-yard touchdown grab in an Oct. 6 win over the Buffalo Bills. He spent four weeks on injured reserve before being activated last Saturday.

But he wasn’t ready to return Sunday night and was inactive for Houston’s loss to Detroit, leaving him out for a fifth straight game to match the longest streak of consecutive games missed in his four-year career.

“You don’t want to miss no games, but that’s part of it,” he said. “But it’s a long season, it’s a marathon and you want to take care of your body. But missing time hurts. You want to be out there with your brothers, making plays.”

Houston lost Stefon Diggs to a season-ending knee injury Oct. 27 and the Texans’ passing game has struggled without Collins. He remains the team’s leading receiver despite his extended absence.

Quarterback C.J. Stroud is thrilled to have Collins back.

“He has that personality where he wants the hard coverage guy, he wants the hard routes to run, he wants to make the hard plays,” Stroud said. “When he gets the ball, he is dangerous. He is able to turn good into great. He runs guys over. He does all these things. … He gets everybody juiced up to play hard and I definitely feel like we have been missing that.”

Collins takes pride in hearing comments like that and believes it’s part of his job to help elevate everyone around him.

“I feel like you bring the energy, you bring the best out of everybody,” he said. “You bring the physicality. I’m showing my teammates that I’m bringing it. So, I need everybody to come in with me.”

Collins will try to help the AFC South-leading Texans get back on track after dropping their last two games and three of their last four. The Texans hope his return will help solve some of the problems they’ve had in the second half of games.

Houston has scored just 15 points after halftime in its last four games combined with no touchdowns. The Texans led by 16 at the break against the Lions before being shut out in the second half of the 26-23 loss.

“I want to change it,” he said. “Add another piece out there, another weapon. … Every time I touch the ball I’m trying to score and just bringing that juice and just having another playmaker out there brings a lot to the offense. And I can’t wait to go out there and play.”

Since Jerry Jones bought the Cowboys back in February of 1989, he has put fans of the team through nothing short of emotional abuse. The abuse stems from him constantly getting the hopes of fans up throughout the season, alluding to them that this year would be different until he leaves them in the all-too-familiar feeling of misery and despair once the season eventually comes to an end and forces them to wonder why they ever became a fan of this hopeless franchise in the first place.

Jerry has always had a polarizing relationship at best with Cowboys fans; his reputation as one of the most successful owners in the league has remained intact despite the mediocre product he has been overseeing on the field every week for over twenty years now.

This season, however, things appear to be different. The media, both locally and nationally, along with fans, seem to be much more critical of the job Jerry has done as both the owner and general manager and forces one to wonder how the nightmare of a season will impact Jerry’’s reputation. Whether this will tarnish the legacy of a man who has been regarded as NFL royalty for the majority of his time in Dallas is a fascinating question.

Whereas disappointing play from the Cowboys is nothing new for the team under Jerry’s tenure, it seems different due to Jerry’s multiple proclamations this past off-season that he would do whatever it would take to turn the Cowboys into contenders this year. He went as far as to claim he was all-in for the 2024 season.

However, since his claims to be all-in, Jerry has shown little to no desire to go all-in and has made a handful of perplexing moves that left fans and media members to question whether or not he was genuine about his notion to do whatever it takes to win this season.

Fans already began the season irate with Jerry due to the pitiful offseason the Cowboys had, which was topped off by Jones insisting on bringing back Ezekiel Elliott, who was coming off of a lackluster season with the Patriots and was a far cry from the player he once was in Dallas.

A poor offseason was just the tip of the iceberg for Jerry, who has been dealing with disappointment after disappointment, including multiple mishandled media moments that made him look more out of touch with reality than ever before.

The multitude of misjudgments this year that negatively impacted the Cowboys both on and off the field has forced both fans and media to wonder whether or not Jerry is still up for the job: is the Hall of Fame owner really the football genius he has portrayed himself to be over the past 25 years?

The latest blunder for Jerry during this nightmare of a season occurred this past Sunday afternoon when the Cowboys were at home facing divisional rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles. The Boys had a promising start to the game, being on the verge of scoring a touchdown to take an early lead until star receiver CeeDee Lamb dropped the ball in the endzone, which he claims was due to the sun blinding him while trying to make the catch.

The Cowboys went on to get routed by the Eagles, as they could not put up any points after the first half. After the game, Jerry was questioned about the sun being a factor in the game, and he gave a response that left many bewildered and agitated as he claimed that the sun serves as a disadvantage for both his team and the opponent.

While this is not the first time that the sun has played a factor for the Cowboys while at home, it is just another reminder to fans how incompetent Jerry can be as both owner and GM of this team.

It seems that most Cowboy fans, along with the rest of the NFL, have always had a blind loyalty towards the Hall of Fame executive, and one must wonder how Jerry’s reputation will be impacted by all of the cracks coming to the surface this season. Jerry appears to be more and more disconnected from reality as the season goes on.

Although the season is not yet over, if Jerry wants to keep this facade going, his team must show some resemblance of effort and fight as they move into the second half of this abysmal season.

Due to how poorly this season has gone for the Cowboys and the number of detrimental decisions Jerry has made throughout this past year, fans have finally reached their limit with him. If the season ends as poorly as many think it will, it could leave profound implications for Jerry, who has built himself up to be one of the most well-known and respected executives in the NFL, could be in for a serious reality check here in the next few months.

It is no secret that the Dallas Cowboys have been plagued by injuries throughout the 2024-25 NFL season.

Star players like Dak Prescott, who is done for the season; Micah Parsons, who missed several weeks; DaRon Bland, who is yet to see the field this season; and many more have led to Dallas being exposed for a lack of experience at key positions.

This week, star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb is raising concerns after news that he is dealing with a “back issue” ahead of the team’s primetime showdown with the Houston Texans in Week 11.

Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy revealed the issue popped up during 7-on-7 drills in practice.

As for his availability for Monday Night Football, McCarthy is downplaying any significance by saying, “I’m not of high concern.”

The Cowboys’ offense without Prescott or Lamb, who both signed record-setting contract extensions before the start of the season, would be a terrifying sight. And Halloween is already over.

Lamb is officially listed as questionable for the game.

This season, Lamb is fifth in the league in receptions (59), seventh in the league in receiving yards (681), and ranks in the top 20 with four touchdowns.

Without the All-Pro pass catcher, the Cowboys offense could be in for another embarrassing performance on offense, and Cowboys Nation really could use a break from watching the team be the butt of every joke.

CeeDee Lamb Admits Harsh Truth About Cowboys’ Disappointing Season

With eight more games left in the season, the Dallas Cowboys certainly have a chance to turn things around and make a run for the postseason. However, the vibe within the organization suggests that nobody actually believes they can do that.

Star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb’s latest remarks are a perfect example of the hopelessness prevalent in the organization. Speaking to the press on Friday, Lamb addressed what has gone wrong so far in the season and looked ahead to the final stretch. He referred to Dak Prescott’s injury as “terrible and deflating”, perfectly summing up the atmosphere in the building.

The Cowboys are still winless at home so far. Both sides of the ball have looked much worse than last year, suffering multiple blowout losses already. Lamb, for his part, hasn’t been up to his usual standard. The battle for the state of Texas will take place on Monday Night Football in Week 11. The Dallas Cowboys will host the Houston Texans, with both teams looking to end a losing streak.

Houston dropped two in a row, both in prime time. In Week 9, it was a Halloween loss to the New York Jets on Thursday Night Football. They came out on fire in Week 10 against the Detroit Lions before falling apart in the second half, losing on a last-second field goal.

Dallas has been far worse than their in-state rivals. They’ve lost four in a row and have yet to win at home in 2024. Including their playoff loss to Green Bay, they’ve also dropped five in a row at AT&T Stadium and are just 3-6 this year.

That’s why there’s a strong belief the Texans will improve to 7-4 on Monday. That could be even more likely if the Cowboys are without CeeDee Lamb, who showed up on their Saturday injury report with a questionable designation.

Lamb is dealing with a back injury, which has to be frustrating for the Pro Bowl wideout since he just fought through a sprain in his AC joint suffered in Week 9. Heading into this game, Lamb has 59 receptions for 681 yards with four touchdowns. It’s not the impact he’s used to but with issues all around him, it’s impressive that he’s accomplished this much.

If Lamb is out, the Cowboys’ top receiver will be Jalen Tolbert who has 33 receptions for 367 yards with three touchdowns. They might also have to lean heavily on newly acquired Jonathan Mingo, which might be a recipe for disaster since they’re starting backup QB Cooper Rush.

Ahead of the Dallas Cowboys’ Week 11 Monday Night Football meeting with the Texans, the Cowboys’ injury report going into this weekend brings reason for concern. As reported by Adam Schefter, cornerback DaRon Bland (foot) was officially ruled out once again, while star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb (back) landed on the injury report following Saturday’s practice.

It’s been a long road to recovery for the 2023 league leader in interceptions, and that road continues for at least another week.

Bland had surgery to repair a stress fracture in his foot before the 2024 season started, and he’s been out of the action through the first 10 weeks of the season. Now, following his Week 11 designation, he’s set to miss his 11th straight game this season.

With the Cowboys’ 2024 season in disarray, the injury bug continues to bite. Lamb was also added to the injury report after Saturday’s practice, but head coach Mike McCarthy didn’t appear too worried about the severity of his injury.

Lamb suffered the back injury in a 7-on-7 drill during the Cowboys’ Saturday practice ahead of their Week 11 matchup against the Texans. While the injury was enough to land him on this week’s injury report, it doesn’t appear severe enough to keep him out of Monday night’s matchup.

This should bring a sigh of relief to Cowboys fans who’ve watched player after player end up on the injury report this season. However, considering the combined health of this team, they need their roster to get back to full strength as soon as possible if they want any chance of saving the season.

Dallas’ injury report is now 19 players strong, as they’ll be sporting a battered bunch on Monday Night Football for those healthy enough to suit up.

Former Cowboys defensive back Adam “Pacman” Jones, who is no stranger with the law, found himself in trouble once again after the fight.

Pacman was arrested on multiple charges and was taken into custody, according to TMZ Sports.

Video of the former All-Pro defensive back being escorted out of the Loews Arlington Hotel near the stadium was obtained by the outlet.

“Pacman was returning to his hotel to wind down for the evening. He was not looking for trouble.”

While Jerry has tried to maintain the notion that McCarthy will be back for another season, many believe that there will be a new head coach as Dallas will certainly fail to make the playoffs. Many potential candidates could replace McCarthy for next year but Jones may already have hinted to who he’s thinking about, and no one would have guessed it.

During a radio spot on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas, Jones was asked if former Cowboys tight end Jason Witten had a future as a coach somewhere. Witten played 255 games for the Cowboys and is the franchise’s all-time leader in receptions and receiving yards. Jones responded with a rave review of Witten, saying that Witten reminds him of Lions head coach Dan Campbell and believes that the former tight end could be “a top coach” in the NFL.

“Yes. Without hesitation. Yes. He has something that you can’t draw up. He reminds me a lot of our other tight end who is head coach up there in Detroit right now (Dan Campbell),” Jones said, via The Athletic’s Jon Machota.

Jerry spoke at length about how Witten would be an exceptional coach, which has led many Cowboys fans to believe that Jerry is revealing who he is thinking about as the replacement for McCarthy. Witten was an exceptional player and leader on the field, but to be a first-time head coach on a team like Dallas comes with tons of pressure.

Fans still believe that Witten will be the next head coach of the Cowboys:

“Okay so Jason Witten is gonna be our next coach,” one user replied.

“Jerry setting the stage for another hire that does t have an actual coaching search,” wrote another.

“The next head coach of the cowboys is Jason Witten. lol,” a third wrote.

While Witten may end up being a great head coach the Cowboys require a veteran coaching leader like Mike Vrabel or someone of that caliber. The culture of the team is not one of discipline and success, and they will need someone to come in there and make instant changes for next season. Dallas has quite a solid roster when everyone is healthy, and they may just be missing the right coach and culture to get things back on track.

Jerry may be hinting at his next hire, or simply praising on of the great Cowboy’s players. Either way, Dallas will need new leadership for 2025.

The Dallas Cowboys have been one of the biggest disappointments in the NFL this season, in part due to significant injuries suffered by Micah Parsons and Dak Prescott. With NFL rumors swirling amid a lost season about Shedeur Sanders and Deion Sanders coming to Dallas in 2025, one other big storyline is Parsons’ future.

Selected with the 12th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, Parsons has been one of the best defensive players in the NFL since he entered the league. The 25-year-old has earned three consecutive Pro Bowl selections and made either second-team All-Pro (2023) or first-team All-Pro (2021-’22) every year.

However, Dallas is in the midst of one of its worst seasons in decades with massive changes looming in 2025. While Mike McCarthy and the rest of the Cowboys coaching staff will be first to go, some have speculated about the futures of Prescott and Parsons in Dallas.

Prescott is all but guaranteed to return next season and beyond. Just months removed from signing a contract extension that made him one of the highest-paid NFL players ever, the Cowboys would be left with $104 million in dead money if they traded Prescott.

Parsons is slightly more realistic. The Cowboys have already committed more than $120 million in cap space to Prescott and CeeDee Lamb each year through 2027. Meanwhile, their All-Pro edge rusher is in a contract year next season and his new deal will go for at least $35 million annually. However, acquiring him would be just as costly for another team.

Yahoo Sports senior NFL reporter Charles Robinson shared on Friday’s episode of the Inside Coverage podcast that if the Cowboys were even to entertain trade offers for Parsons this summer, the minimum price would likely start at three first-round picks.

“Brian Burns drew an offer of two first-round picks, plus. You can’t tell me that Brian Burns being worth two first-round picks to any NFL team, does not make Micah Parsons worth at a bare minimum three first-round picks.”

As ESPN‘s Adam Schefter reported in November 2022, the Los Angeles Rams offered the Carolina Panthers two first-round picks and a second-round pick in exchange for edge rusher Brian Burns. Burns was in his fourth NFL season and coming off his first Pro Bowl selection but still didn’t have a season with double-digit sacks.

Compare that to Parsons, who recorded three consecutive seasons with 13-plus sacks to begin his NFL career. He’s a perennial Defensive Player of the Year candidate and widely recognized as one of the best players in football.

The widespread expectation around the league remains that the Cowboys front office will sign Parsons to a contract extension, though negotiations may drag deep into next summer. However, if Dallas decides to pivot and trade Parsons then it could net one of the largest trade packages in NFL history.

Texans WR Nico Collins expects to return Monday night against Cowboys after 5-game absence

HOUSTON (AP) – Houston Texans wide receiver Nico Collins expects to play Monday night against the Dallas Cowboys after he missed five games with a hamstring injury.

“I feel like myself,” Collins said Friday. “I feel like that was the main part.”

Collins led the NFL with 567 yards receiving when he was injured on a 67-yard touchdown grab in an Oct. 6 win over the Buffalo Bills. He spent four weeks on injured reserve before being activated last Saturday.

But he wasn´t ready to return Sunday night and was inactive for Houston´s loss to Detroit, leaving him out for a fifth straight game to match the longest streak of consecutive games missed in his four-year career.

“You don´t want to miss no games, but that´s part of it,” he said. “But it´s a long season, it´s a marathon and you want to take care of your body. But missing time hurts. You want to be out there with your brothers, making plays.”

Houston lost Stefon Diggs to a season-ending knee injury Oct. 27 and the Texans’ passing game has struggled without Collins. He remains the team´s leading receiver despite his extended absence.

Quarterback C.J. Stroud is thrilled to have Collins back.

“He has that personality where he wants the hard coverage guy, he wants the hard routes to run, he wants to make the hard plays,” Stroud said. “When he gets the ball, he is dangerous. He is able to turn good into great. He runs guys over. He does all these things. … He gets everybody juiced up to play hard and I definitely feel like we have been missing that.”

Collins takes pride in hearing comments like that and believes it´s part of his job to help elevate everyone around him.

“I feel like you bring the energy, you bring the best out of everybody,” he said. “You bring the physicality. I´m showing my teammates that I´m bringing it. So, I need everybody to come in with me.”

Collins will try to help the AFC South-leading Texans get back on track after dropping their last two games and three of their last four. The Texans hope his return will help solve some of the problems they´ve had in the second half of games.

Houston has scored just 15 points after halftime in its last four games combined with no touchdowns. The Texans led by 16 at the break against the Lions before being shut out in the second half of the 26-23 loss.

“I want to change it,” he said. “Add another piece out there, another weapon. … Every time I touch the ball I´m trying to score and just bringing that juice and just having another playmaker out there brings a lot to the offense. And I can´t wait to go out there and play.”
