Crystal Palace initiate contact to sign Filip Kostic
Crystal Palace have begun negotiations to sign 31-year-old Serbian winger Filip Kostic from Juventus during the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Italian outlet Calciomercato, Crystal Palace has expressed interest in Filip Kostic. The Eagles are looking to strengthen their left wing-back position before the transfer window closes and have identified the Juventus wide player as a key target. They have already initiated contact to secure the 31-year-old’s transfer from the Serie A club.
Filip Kostic’s Career Journey
Filip Kostic has been one of Europe’s most dynamic wide players over the past five years. Hailing from Kragujevac, Serbia, Kostic developed his skills in his home country before graduating from the youth academy at Radnicki 1923 Kragujevac.
Kostic’s reputation grew significantly during his time in Germany, particularly while playing for Eintracht Frankfurt, where he thrived under the management of Oliver Glasner. His impressive performances in the Bundesliga earned him a move to Juventus, with the Italian giants signing him in August 2022.
Since joining Juventus, Kostic has made nearly 100 appearances, contributing three goals and 15 assists. However, the Serbian international’s future at the Serie A club is uncertain as the summer transfer window approaches its final stages. Despite this, Kostic has attracted interest from several clubs, with Crystal Palace being one of the leading contenders for his signature.
A Move to London?
Crystal Palace’s interest in Filip Kostic is logical, as the club seeks to sign a left wing-back to compete with Tyrick Mitchell for the 2024/25 season. Additionally, former Frankfurt coach Oliver Glasner is reportedly eager to reunite with the experienced Serbian player during the summer transfer window.
Given Kostic’s potential affordability, he becomes an appealing option for Crystal Palace, especially amid uncertainties regarding Jeffrey Schlupp’s long-term future. The Eagles have already begun negotiations to bring Kostic to Selhurst Park this summer.
However, Crystal Palace will face competition in the race to sign Kostic, as Turkish clubs Fenerbahce and Galatasaray have also expressed interest. It remains to be seen whether the South London club can outmaneuver these rivals to secure the services of the Serbian international.
Crystal Palace’s pursuit of Filip Kostic underscores their ambition to bolster the squad with experienced, versatile players ahead of the new season. Kostic’s proven track record in top European leagues, particularly his success in the Bundesliga and Serie A, makes him an attractive option for Palace. His ability to deliver precise crosses, combined with his work rate and tactical awareness, would add a new dimension to the Eagles’ attack. Moreover, his experience in European competitions could be invaluable as Crystal Palace looks to improve their standing in the Premier League.
The potential acquisition of Kostic also reflects Crystal Palace’s strategic approach in the transfer market, focusing on players who can immediately contribute while also offering leadership qualities on and off the pitch. With the uncertainty surrounding other squad members, such as Jeffrey Schlupp, Kostic’s arrival would not only provide depth but also push existing players to elevate their game. As the transfer window narrows, securing Kostic could be a key move in Palace’s efforts to strengthen their squad and achieve their goals for the 2024/25 season.
