‘It’s a sign’… Sporting Director says Brendan Rodgers ‘personally asked’ about two on-loan Celtic youngsters

With Celtic looking to add more players as well as ship out the ones who are not contributing in the January window, it seems Brendan Rodgers has taken a keen interest in two youngsters currently out on loan.

Celtic currently have a partnership with Admira Wacker where Tobi Oluwayemi and Matthew Anderson are currently on loan.

Wacker Sporting Director, Gerhard Fellner, was visiting Celtic Park this weekend and despite the disappointing result, said Rodgers personally asked about two Celtic youngsters and how they were getting on.

Fellner said [The Celtic Way], “The winning mentality that is instilled in everyone in the club from an early age is impressive. Everyone at the club believes in Celtic – and Celtic believes in them.

“The openness from Celtic was great for us.

“The manager Brendan Rodgers personally asked about how loan players Matthew Anderson and Tobi Oluwayemi were getting on.

“For me, it’s a sign that both of them are not just numbers that were sent abroad somewhere.”

Clearly, both players are in no place to be starting for Celtic anytime soon but the fact Rodgers took interest shows that these boys could be earmarked for first-team football soon.

Oluwayemi is a highly-rated young goalkeeper and he has worked closely with Joe Hart over the past couple of seasons.

Young Anderson is a left-sided fullback who signed his first professional contract at Celtic at 16 in 2020. Could he be one to challenge Greg Taylor in the future?

Anderson has made nine appearances for Admira and is doing well. Although he’s yet to score, he has created three assists for his loan club. [Transfermarkt]

Oluwayemi hasn’t been as fortunate. The 20-year-old has been out since September with a knee injury and hopefully, he will recover soon to get some first-team minutes for the second-tier Austrian side.
