All-Ireland-winning football captain James McCarthy has indicated that he will continue with Dublin in 2024.

McCarthy was asked about his Dublin future after lining out for Shelbourne FC Legends in a charity football game over the weekend to raise funds for Breast Cancer Ireland.

“You’d have to give it a crack, don’t you, I suppose. We’ll give it a belt and see what happens,” he told the Striker Online blog of going again with Dublin in search of a 10th All-Ireland SFC medal.

McCarthy, who turns 34 next March, had been far less emphatic when quizzed on his Dublin future in the aftermath of the county’s All-Ireland final win over Kerry at the end of July.

“Look, this isn’t a bad way probably to wrap it up, but there’s a lot of guys have to make decisions in the next couple of months but we’ll enjoy this now and see what happens,” he said at the time.
