Man City vs Manchester United LIVE: Community Shield result and reaction after Akanji scores winning penalty
When Manuel Akanji scored the game-winning eighth penalty against Manchester United, Manchester City defeated their local rivals and won the Community Shield for the first time since 2019.
Alejandro Garnacho’s incredible shot in the 82nd minute broke the scoreless draw, and Bernardo Silva’s equalizer in the final minute of normal time sent the match to penalties at Wembley. The game had started slowly.
Before it proceeded to sudden death, there were just two mistakes made by Jadon Sancho and Bernardo Silva in the first five penalties, which included a goal from Ederson. When Jonny Evans tried to score his team’s eighth goal, he appeared unconfident and missed the mark. In contrast, Akanji rolled his shot into the goal to give Pep Guardiola’s team the victory.
