Paperwork signed as Celtic close in on 22 y/o ace buzzing at Parkhead move

Despite a quiet start to the summer transfer window, Celtic are now reportedly closing in on their third arrival following deals to welcome both Viljami Sinisalo and Kasper Schmeichel.

Celtic transfer news

The Bhoys were never in a position to panic this summer, having just won their third consecutive Scottish Premiership, but Brendan Rodgers‘ side still needed improvements. The retirement of Joe Hart forced Celtic’s hand in pursuit of a new first-choice goalkeeper, which saw them land Schmeichel in a free deal to follow the arrival of backup Sinisalo.

The two shot-stoppers had plenty of action in Celtic’s latest pre-season test too, helping their new side defeat Premier League champions Manchester City in a 4-3 thriller in the United States.

The good news looks set to keep coming after that impressive pre-season victory. Those in Scotland are reportedly on course to finally land their first outfield signing of the transfer window and one that has undoubtedly been a long time coming.

According to TEAMtalk, Celtic are closing in on signing Paulo Bernardo on a permanent deal with the paperwork signed, medical booked, and the central midfielder buzzing at the prospect of the summer switch to Parkhead. Arriving from Benfica for a reported £3.5m, Bernardo will hope to pick up where he left off in Scotland, which saw the Bhoys secure a league and Scottish Cup double.

Still just 22 years old, Bernardo will be looking to stake a claim for a permanent starting spot under Rodgers in the coming season, having started just 11 times in the Scottish Premiership last time out. It speaks volumes that Celtic have seemingly splashed out to secure his signature on a permanent basis, however, and suggests that he is set to play an integral part in Scotland.

“Great” Bernardo could step in for O’Riley

Whilst Matt O’Riley’s Celtic future remains in doubt amid interest from all around Europe, Bernardo is set to arrive on a permanent deal to potentially hand Rodgers a ready-made replacement. Of course, it will be no easy task to replace O’Riley if he does head for the exit door this summer, but the 22-year-old Benfica man showed signs of promise last season, scoring four goals and assisting a further three in all competitions.

What’s more, it’s worth noting that in the season prior to O’Riley’s 19-goal heroics last time out, he too managed to find the back of the net four times in all competitions. With the ability to play in a more advanced role, it’s not absurd to suggest that Bernardo could yet help to replace the Dane’s impressive output.

Rodgers will certainly back his pending arrival, having said via Celts Are Here after Bernardo’s first goal for the club last season: “For Paulo it was good. He’s such a mature player for a young player. He’s always had a great attitude at training. He’s played in a lot of big games. But he had a wee bit of everything today – he had a wee bit of dig, put his foot in, passed the ball and made runs into the box.”

Brendan Rodgers lifts lid on lengthy Celtic transfer meeting as he makes ‘by end of window’ vow

Celtic boss confident of new arrivals after chat with club bosses

Brendan Rodgers has assured Celtic fans that the squad will be strenghtened before the end of the transfer window following a lengthy meeting with chief executive Michael Nicholson and chief financial officer Chris McKay.

Celtic have made two new acquisitons so far this summer – both in the goalkeeper department – with Danish international Kasper Schmeichel joining on a free transfer following his departure from Anderlecht and Viljami Sinisalo making a £1m switch from Aston Villa.

Schmeichel made an impressive debut in the 4-3 win over Manchester City in the second match of Celtic’s US pre-season tour in the early hours of Wednesday morning and afterwards Rodgers stressed that outfield signings are in the pipeline.

“I had a long meeting with Michael and Chris,” he said. “We know the targets we want to bring in. There’s still a long way to go in the window. We know what we want to do and the priority positions we want to imrpove.

“Whilst the club are getting on with that myself and the coaches are focused on the improvement of the team physically, tactically and technically. By the end of August I would expect us to have the players that we want in.”

Rodgers was also asked for an update on the pursuit of Paulo Bernardo as Celtic look to negotiate a permanent transfer for the Benfica midfielder following last season’s successful loan spell.

“There’s nothing new to add, clearly there’s lots of work going on behind the scenes but until there’s any confirmation on it we’ll let you know,” the Northern Iriishman replied.

“I’ll make it clear to the Celtic supporters we want to improve, get better. We don’t want to stand still this season, we know we want to improve the squad and by the end of the window shutting I’d expect us to be that.

“Until that moment there’s a lot of great work going on here with the players, some of the younger players are developing really well. The other players are really tuned into how we’re working and are having a good pre-season which is a good starting point for the season ahead.”

Nicolas Kuhn scored twice and produced a sublime assist for Kyogo Furuhashi as Celtic opened up a 3-1 half-time lead over Pep Guardiola’s men in North Carolina. Erling Haaland was on target as City drew level in the second half before Luis Palma struck the winner.

Rodgers was full of praise for the performance of German winger Kuhn and believes fans will see the best of him this season as he settles further into life in Glasgow following his January move from Rapid Vienna.

“Hopefully, in the first year, he was adapting and he has come back looking really sharp,” explained the Celtic boss. “He finished his two goals really well. His pass for the third goal was magical. The outside of the right foot and it had to travel a long distance, so two goals and an assist for him was great. We wanted to play him a little bit longer but he just felt a little bit on his knee but he was very good.”

Celtic now go on to face Chelsea on Saturday night in the final match of their American tour in their final warm-up match before getting their Scottish Premiership title defence underway at home to Kilmarnock on Sunday, August 4.

Celtic fired transfer warning by European chief regarding nine-goal attacker

Celtic have the chance to bring in some more players over the coming weeks

Brondby Director of Football Carsten V. Jensen has admitted Celtic-linked Mathias Kvitgaarden could be sold this summer, but not on the cheap. The Danish Superliga side are facing a battle to keep hold of the attacker in this window amid interest from elsewhere.

The Hoops have been linked with a move for the 22-year-old ahead of next season. They won the Scottish Premiership again in the last campaign ahead of rivals Rangers and will be looking to do the same again next time around.

Celtic could see Kvitgaarden as someone to bolster their attacking department. However, RB Salzburg have also been mentioned as a potential suitors and could provide competition in this particular pursuit.

Brondby chief Jensen has shared this update on the player’s situation in an interview with Viaplay: “It goes without saying that there is interest when we have a team with such talented players. As I said, we now have a strength in that we can keep the group together and are not forced to sell – and not for a pittance at all.”

Kvitgaarden spoke to Danish news outlet Campo earlier this summer and told of his ambition to better himself: “I think I have shown myself in a lot of ways, which means that I have shown that I can hopefully also play internationally at some point. I am a soccer player. I meet here around 8:30. So I’m hired to play soccer. And then there are a lot of others who are employed to do what they are employed to do.”

The Denmark youth international is still waiting to play for their senior team. They reached Euro 2024 but were knocked out by the hosts Germany in the Round of 16, with Celtic new boy Kasper Schmeichel playing between the sticks.

Kvitgaarden played for Skjold Birkerød and Lyngby before joining Brondby in 2015. He has since risen up through the ranks of his current team and broke into their senior set-up in 2020.

The forward has since made 83 appearances in all competitions and has fired 23 goals, nine of which came last term. His contract expires in 2027 meaning Brondby are under no pressure to cash in on him just yet and can wait for the right offer to come in.

Celtic may have to fork out a decent sized transfer fee if they are to win the race for his signature. Time will tell whether they pursue a deal for him or look elsewhere for targets.

The Hoops beat Manchester City 4-3 in their latest friendly over in America. Rodgers was delighed with the win and said afterwards: “Some of the football we played was excellent. We showed how much we wanted to attack.

“When you play Pep’s teams, they’re so complex in how they play. I said before the game that, physically, this would be another step up for us. But it’s also a step up tactically because you’ve got to be so concentrated and press in the right moments. But I thought the players dealt with that so well. It was a really good night, and the supporters were amazing once again.”

Southampton ‘launch’ Celtic Matt O’Riley transfer bid as Atalanta given decision to make…

Southampton have made their move after Atalanta had a bid turned down

Southampton have reportedly bid for Matt O’Riley of Celtic

Southampton are the latest club to reportedly make their move for Matt O’Riley.

The newly promoted English Premier league side are one of the many to be linked with the Celtic midfielder this summer and are managed by Russell Martin, who previously bossed the player when they were both at MK Dons. Saints have money to spend as they attempt to remain in the top flight after promotion and are ready to push the boat out to improve their midfield.

The 23-year-old has plenty of interest in both England and Italy and Atalanta were the first to play their hand with an initial £15million bid. That was booted out immediately by the Hoops, who want in excess of £25m, as was a very slightly improved offer from the Serie A side.

Italian outlet TuttoMercatoWeb are now reporting Southampton are ready to rival them and have made their first concrete offer. O’Riley is highly regarded by the Atalanta management and wanted as a replacement for the outgoing Teun Koopmeiners, but they will no have to decide if they want to up their bid and potentially getting into a bidding war with the English side.

Other clubs such as Tottenham, West Ham, Leicester and Juventus have been linked with the 23-year-old, while Atletico Madrid made a move back in January and could yet return on the scene.

Brendan Rodgers was quizzed on the speculation surrounding his player and insisted: “He’s working well and he’s focused. Of course when you’re a good young player who’s committed and professional like him you attract attention. He’s working well and there’s nothing to report about him. Matt has been at the club for three years, he’s become the player he is and he knows it’s a privilege to play for Celtic.”

Brendan Rodgers has insisted he is “relaxed” despite transfer interest in Matt O’Riley this summer.

The Celtic midfielder, 23, is wanted by Atalanta with one transfer offer reportedly rejected by Parkhead chiefs this summer.

There is an expectation the Serie A club could return to the table with an improved offer but reports suggest Celtic chiefs will stand firm on their valuation.

O’Riley is a key player at Celtic and scored a double in the pre-season win over DC United. And Rodgers insists “first-class professional” O’Riley won’t be distracted by transfer speculation.

The Celtic manager added that Celtic are a “very difficult club to leave” as he responded to interest O’Riley with a firm take on the situation.

As quoted by The Scottish Sun, Rodgers said: “Celtic is a club where you can move on but you don’t have to and it’s a very difficult club to move on from.

“I think we all understand, the people close to Celtic, the model Celtic works to.

“Matt’s been at the club for three years, he’s developed into the player he has and he knows the privilege it is to play for Celtic.

“Of course naturally how it works is the player gets that opportunity to move on.

“Naturally with the wages that are on offer for players then that makes it a real challenge for Celtic to compete at that level.

“But what I’ve seen with Matt is he’s a first-class professional. He’s a really humble guy who’s really devoted to his profession and he knows what he has here.

“We’re all quite relaxed about it. Every player has a value but we see him as a really important player and while he’s here we’ll continue to develop him and improve.”

Celtic stalwart lifts lid on future after contract setback as Rangers ace links up with team despite exit talk

The latest transfer headlines from Celtic and Rangers ahead of the 2024/25 season

Celtic left back Greg Taylor has hinted at the possibility of a Parkhead exit in the coming months after recent talks over a new contract hit a stalemate.

Taylor, who joined Celtic from Kilmarnock in 2019, is in the final year of his contract at Parkhead but is yet to agree to a new long term extension. The 26-year-old has been the club’s first-choice left back for the past four years and played a vital role in the club’s Premiership and Scottish Cup double.

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers admitted that it was his aim to keep Taylor on a long-term deal but the full back is still unsure if he will be at Parkhead this time next year.

He told the Daily Record: “No, nothing. We’ll see what happens. I honestly don’t know, I think I’ve got 10 months left. It’s football, it’s business. You understand that’s part of it. So I’m sure these things eventually work their selves out.

“Is it on my mind? Not at the forefront, I wouldn’t say so. But of course, you’ve got 10 months left in your contract, you know the situation you’re in. So we’ll just see what happens.”

Taylor has picked up nine honour since signing for Celtic and has proven to be an inspired signing after racking up more than 170 appearances. He claims he is working to improve constantly and believes that the best years are still to come.

He explained:  “I’ve loved it. It’s been an amazing period of my career in terms of winning a lot of trophies, playing a lot of games, I’ve worked under some unbelievable managers, the current one included. I’m really grateful for what the experience has been. It’s one I’ll never take for granted.

“Have I peaked? I hope not, I’m 26. I’m at an age where I want to be playing regular football, I want to be playing every week, I want to be competing for the trophies. I hope there’s a lot of growth in me yet and a lot of enjoyable times in the years to come.”

The defender says that he remains focused on helping his team secure a fourth successive title defence despite the uncertainty surrounding his future and claims transfer rumours are just part of the parcel in football.

Taylor said: “It’s football isn’t it? There’s transfer speculation, there’s contracts, this is what happens in football.

“It’s part of your job that you need to, one side is that side of it and one side is the football side. I think most people in the modern game manage to just focus on that side when they’re out there with their training. Matt’s (O’Riley) no different, he’s a brilliant talent and a brilliant player.”

Rangers ace returns to training camp despite exit links

Connor Goldson is a surprise member of the Rangers squad for the upcoming pre-season friendly clash with Birmingham City.

The defender jetted to Cyprus at the weekend for signing talks with Aris Limassol. The Daily Record reported at the time that the English centre back was with the club for a medical but now understands that he has returned to training with Rangers in a shock transfer U-turn.

It’s believed Aris are still working on a deal for the centre-back but as things stand no agreement has been reached – with other interested clubs waiting in the wings to pounce should negotiations collapse.

Such news could open the door to League One side Birmingham City, who are believed to be huge admirers of the defender while former boss Steven Gerrard of Al Ettifaq is also keeping close eyes on the situation ahead of a potential move.

The Wolverhampton born defender has represented the Light Blues on 309 occasions in all competitions since making the move to Glasgow in the summer of 2018. In that time he has lifted the Scottish Premiership, Scottish Cup and Scottish League Cup whilst also forming part of the team which reached the 2022 Europa League final before a heartbreaking defeat to German side Eintracht Frankfurt.

Goldson is under contract at Ibrox until the summer of 2026 and it is believed that Philippe Clement is seeking a sizable fee for the 31-year-old if he is to depart this summer.

Southampton Ready ‘Record-Breaking’ Offer for Matt O’Riley

Southampton could be set to make a record-breaking bid to sign Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley, according to HITC.

The publication state that Serie A heavyweights and Europa League champions Atalanta have seen a second bid for the Denmark international rejected, with the Hoops holding out for a higher fee.

O’Riley, who contributed to 31 goals for Brendan Rodgers’ side last term, has drawn interest from several parties this summer after a superb season in the Scottish Premier League, is valued at around £25m by the league champions, with Atalanta bidding shorter than that at £15m and seeing their efforts rejected.

They face competition for O’Riley from Saints, who are reportedly ready to table an O’Riley offer of their own that it is believed could come close or even surpass their record transfer, which is currently held by Kamaldeen Sulemana for £22m.

Atalanta see O’Riley bid Rejected

The 23-year-old is a wanted man

Since his arrival from League One side MK Dons in 2022, London-born Denmark midfielder O’Riley has quickly risen to prominence as one of the best players in Scotland.

The 23-year-old found the net 18 times in the league last season, providing 13 assists as well, and was the key man to Celtic’s impressive league-winning campaign.

Such impressive performances have seen O’Riley touted as a wanted man, with Atalanta and Southampton competing for a signature that would see the twice-capped Denmark midfielder move to a top five European league.

However, both clubs are faltering in their attempts thus far, with a £15m bid from Atalanta being rejected alongside the interest from Russell Martin’s men. It is believed, according to HITC, that Southampton are ready to go near their transfer record to secure O’Riley’s services.

Rodgers was full of praise for O’Riley back when speaking about him in August 2023, heralding his new knack for goals and professionalism…

“It is all about arriving in the areas and finding composure to finish. I really like him, his build-up play is good, he takes the ball, and he needs to work on his pressing and intensity but he is a wonderful footballer and he is a good guy as well.”

Southampton Trying to Land Rak-Sakyi

The Crystal Palace winger is keen to join

As well as O’Riley, the south coast club also remain in talks to try and sign Crystal Palace winger Jesurun Rak-Sakyi according to Sky Sports.

The report says that Saints are trying to agree a loan deal with an option to buy, and they are willing to increase it with the Eagles so far unwilling to do business with their Premier League rivals.

Rak-Sakyi is keen to leave Selhurst Park and play under Russell Martin too. The fact that Palace look to be closing in on a move for another wide man in Ismaila Sarr from Marseille, according to Fabrizio Romano, could see things develop further over the next few weeks with this deal.

Player ‘has not agreed’ to join Celtic – Could be off to the Premier League instead

Celtic were able to sign 37-year-old Kasper Schmeichel last week, with Brendan Rodgers bringing the goalkeeper in as a free agent. It’s an impressive deal for the Scottish Premiership club, who needed to find a new goalkeeper following Joe Hart calling it a day.

French newspaper L’Equipe reports they’ve also moved for Yvon Mvogo, who has been told he can leave Lorient this summer for the right price. He has just a year remaining on his contract, and with Lorient relegated to Ligue 2 he’s available.

However, it’s stated the player ‘has not agreed to join Celtic’, making it sound like he’s snubbed the club. Instead he could be set for a move to Bournemouth and the Premier League.

Bournemouth and Lorient share a major shareholder, and that would help the move go through.

L’Equipe may well be overstating Celtic’s interest. Kasper Schmeichel arriving wasn’t an overnight thing and it’s not hard to argue that he’d be preferable as a free agent.

Mvogo would likely arrive as a squad player at Bournemouth, with a chance to prove himself.

Brendan Rodgers sends Liverpool clear message amid transfer links after two bids turned down

Liverpool have been linked with Celtic star Matt O’Riley.

Brendan Rodgers has insisted that Celtic are relaxed about the future of Matt O’Riley amid Liverpool transfer links.

The midfielder was one of the Hoops’ star players as they won the Scottish league and cup double last season. He registered 19 goals and 18 assists in 49 appearances in all competitions.

As a result, O’Riley has reportedly attracted plenty of potential suitors in the summer transfer window, with Europa League champions Atalanta having two bids rejected. Among the other clubs credited with an interest are Liverpool.

Celtic are preparing for the upcoming campaign as they aim to win a fourth successive Scottish Premiership and will be hoping to fare better in the Champions League. Rodgers, who returned to Parkhead last summer, has spoken about the interest in O’Riley during his side’s pre-season trip to America.

And although the former Anfield boss would not want to lose his talisman, Rodgers admits that every player has ‘a value’ – hinting that Celtic could sell for the right price.

Via the Daily Record, Rodgers said: “We’re all quite relaxed about it. Every player has a value but we see him as a really important player and while he’s here we’ll continue to develop him and improve. There’s no update. We’re fairly relaxed, you saw him in the game the other night.

“He’s working well and is focus. Naturally, when you’re a good young player who’s as committed and professional as he is he will get attention. He’s working so well but there’s nothing to report on him I think we al understand the people close to Celtic understand the model Celtic works. Matt’s been at the club for three years he’s developed into the player he has and he knows the privilege it is to play for Celtic and of course naturally how it works is the player get that opportunity to move on. Celtic is a club where you can move on but you don’t have to and it’s a very difficult club to move on from.

“But naturally with the wages that are on offer for players then that makes it a real challenge for Celtic to compete at that level. But what I’ve seen with Matt is he’s a first-class professional. He’s a really humble guy who’s really devoted to his profession and he knows what he has here.”

Celtic can now sign another midfielder for £3.3m alongside Paulo Bernardo

Celtic are chasing a move for a long-term target this summer as they look to bolster their ranks ahead of the new Scottish Premiership campaign, it has been reported.

Celtic focus on permanent moves for loanees

Following the Scottish League and Cup double (both at the expense of bitter rivals Rangers), Brendan Rodgers‘ side have had a quiet summer. They have replaced the retired Joe Hart with veteran shot-stopper Kasper Schmeichel, who has joined on a one-year deal after his time with Belgian side Anderlecht came to a close.

“Celtic is one of the world’s proper football clubs, a massive name and a place of real passion and success.” he told the club website.

They have also confirmed a deal for backup goalkeeper Viljami Sinisalo, with the 22-year-old arriving from Aston Villa. But much of the focus has been on trying to negotiate permanent moves for their successful loanees last season.

Striker Adam Idah was a priority for Rodgers at the end of the season after he scored nine times on loan from Norwich, but a deal is looking increasingly difficult to pull off.

Speaking to the media last week, new Norwich manager Johannes Hoff Thorup suggested he wanted Idah to remain at Carrow Road.

“Like we said from day one, he’s a vital part of the group and of the squad here. Luckily, or maybe unfortunately, we have players where there’s also interest from other clubs. But we should always strive to have that, that’s important for us.”

“But Adam’s working hard in training, a good guy with good energy. He’s really doing well. And I hope it’s obvious for him and everyone that he will play a vital part for this team.”

They are having better luck with fellow loanee Paulo Bernardo though, with reports from Scotland claiming that a deal for the midfielder is “all but done” in a move that will see Celtic shell out just under £3.4m to bring the 21-year-old to Celtic Park.
He may not be the only midfield arrival, though.

Celtic set to resume long chase

That comes with Sport Witness relaying claims from Turkey that Celtic remain interested in midfielder Jakub Kaluzinski. The Hoops were keen to sign him during his time at Lechia Gdansk, the report suggests, but the young Polish midfielder completed a move to Turkish side Antalyaspor last summer.

Now, 12 months on, Celtic remain interested, it is alleged, and there is no suggestion that he is unobtainable despite being under contract until 2026. On the contrary, it is added that a deal could be completed for just €4m (£3.3m), though Spanish side Rayo Vallodolid are also thought to be chasing his signature.

It remains to be seen whether a move for the 21-year-old talent is given priority given the other areas of need in the Hoops squad, but it is certainly one to keep an eye on ahead of the new campaign.

Spanish Side Step up Their Interest in Celtic-Linked Midfielder

Real Valladolid is reportedly preparing to increase their offer for Jakub Kaluzinski, the Polish midfielder currently playing for Antalyaspor, amidst interest from Celtic.

Although the Scottish Premiership champions have been tracking the 21-year-old for over a year, their focus appears to have shifted towards securing Paulo Bernardo from Benfica on a permanent basis.

With a £3.5 million deal for Bernardo nearing completion, Celtic’s pursuit of Kaluzinski may be on hold. You’d imagine if Celtic do get a deal for the Portuguese over the line, their interest in Kaluzinski would cool.

31st March 2024; Almondvale Stadium, Livingston, Scotland: Scottish Premiership Football, Livingston versus Celtic; /Paulo Bernardo of Celtic celebrates after he shoots and scores to make it 2-0 to Celtic

With Celtic focused on other midfield targets, Valladolid are pushing to strike a deal. The La Liga club had an initial bid of €2.5 million turned down by Antalyaspor, who are holding out for a fee closer to €4 million. According to reports from Sporx, Valladolid is set to make a renewed effort to sign the midfielder.

Celtic will be in the market for midfielders this summer, even if Paulo Bernardo pens a future in Glasgow. The future of Matt O’Riley is in doubt and Celtic may have to replace their star player in the coming weeks.

Club Put Possible Swoop On Hold As They Focus On Celtic Star

Serie A side Atalanta are keeping a move for Frosinone midfielder Marco Brescianini on hold as they could make yet another attempt to sign Matt O’Riley from Celtic.

Atalanta have been trying desperately to get their hands on the 23-year-old midfielder and have tabled as many as three bids to sign him.

However, the Bhoys have so far blocked every attempt from the Italian club to sign their prized asset.

Atalanta’s latest bid of around €17m plus €2m in bonuses falls well short of Celtic’s asking price and, according to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato, the Bhoys want €27m plus €2m in bonuses.

The Scottish club have no need to sell and want to be able to find a replacement if they do.

The saga is now having an impact on Atalanta’s possible swoop for another midfielder.

Gian Piero Gasperini’s side are keen to sign Frosinone midfielder Brescianini, but the deal is on hold while they wait to see if they can land O’Riley.

Premier League outfit Liverpool have also been credited with an interest in O’Riley, though they are yet to make any concrete move.

Celtic’s top 20 highest transfer fees received: where Matt O’Riley’s potential £25m+ exit would rank

Matt O’Riley has been the subject of interest from Atalanta, Atletico Madrid and AS Roma

Celtic have a history for driving a hard bargain when it comes to selling some of their biggest assets.

Over the years, the Hoops have sold the likes of Jota, Kieran Tierney, Virgil van Dijk and Moussa Dembele for huge fees and the next major departure could be last season’s star performer Matt O’Riley.

The former MK Dons midfielder only joined Celtic in January 2022 for a figure of just £1.5m, but now could leave Parkhead for almost 25 times that amount this summer amid interest from a variety of big clubs including AS Roma, Atletico Madrid and most recently Atalanta, who have already had two bids rejected for the Danish international.

O’Riley was a catalyst for Celtic’s success last season with 18 goals and 19 assists across all competitions and it is reported by TeamTalk that the Hoops have set an asking price of around £25m for their prized asset.

The reported figure would make O’Riley one of the most expensive sales in the club’s history but how does the fee compare to previous big name departures?

Here GlasgowWorld takes a look at 21 of the most expensive sales in Celtic’s history and where O’Riley could potentially rank if he was to leave this summer.

Celtic transfer move gets Champions League approval as new recruit left with ‘buzzing’ Parkhead feeling

Approval has come from the Champions League for a Celtic transfer move.

Kasper Schmeichel’s move to Celtic has been met with a thumbs up – as he is filled with excitement over his Parkhead chances.

The goalkeeper has signed a one-year deal with Brendan Rodgers’ side after time at Anderlecht. He worked with the Celtic boss while at Leicester City and the 37-year-old arrives at a club awaiting Champions League football this season.

Their official X account has taken notice of the move and shared a photo of the keeper in America wearing Celtic colours, offering a simple thumbs up to the move. Schmeichel himself can’t wait to get started. He said: “They’ve made it really easy to integrate. From a football perspective, I’m lucky that I’ve worked with the boss before so I know his style and his principles so it’s not completely foreign to me.

“I’m buzzing to be here. Once I spoke to the boss it was exactly what I wanted. I’m really happy to be here and can’t wait to get started. I think the biggest challenge is always making sure you perform. And that’s what I’m here to do.

“I’ve got a job to be the best I can be for the team, to help this team keep winning, keep progressing. It’s a new kind of experience for me as I’m coming into a team that has a huge history of winning, and that hasn’t been something I’ve had too many times in my life.

“So I’m looking forward to the challenge of being at a club that’s used to excellence, that’s used to having the highest of standards and that’s the kind of thing I thrive on. I’m looking forward to being a part of that.”

Celtic could land dream signing for McGregor in swoop for £6m star

The summer transfer window still has over a month left to run and this means that Celtic have plenty of time left to get their incoming business done.

Brendan Rodgers has already brought in two goalkeepers to bolster his squad following the departure of Joe Hart, with Kasper Schmeichel and Viljami Sinisalo signing on permanent deals.

The Hoops have also reportedly agreed a £3.4m deal with Benfica to sign midfielder Paulo Bernardo, who spent the 2023/24 campaign on loan at Parkhead.

Rodgers and Celtic could now land a dream signing for Callum McGregor in Glasgow by swooping to sign another one of the club’s reported transfer targets.

Celtic’s interest in American dynamo

It was recently reported by the Daily Record that the Hoops are interested in a deal to sign central midfielder Tanner Tessmann from Venezia.

The outlet claimed that the USA international has emerged as a target for the Scottish giants, who have been alerted to the chance of bringing him after his move to Italian giants Inter fell through.

It added that the midfield dynamo, who is valued at £6m, is also wanted by Premier League side Brentford and a number of other teams, which means that Celtic could need to move quickly if they want to get a deal over the line.

The Scottish Premiership champions must now attempt to snap the Serie B starlet up before the end of the transfer window as he could be their dream partner for McGregor in the middle of the park.

Why Tessmann could be perfect for McGregor

Tessmann and the Scotland international could be a terrific pairing at the base of Rodgers’ midfield to control the tempo of games and restrict what the opposition can do on the ball.

Both players are athletic midfielders who can get across the pitch to win possession back whilst also being creative players who like to make things happen at the top end of the pitch.

Tessmann averaged 6.7 ball recoveries per game across 37 appearances in the Serie B last term, whilst McGregor managed 6.6 per match in the Premiership, which suggests that both players can consistently recover the ball back for their side.

As you can see in the table above, they both offer similar qualities in the middle of the park for their respective sides in and out of possession.

Tessmann appears to be the greater threat in front of goal but there is not much between them when it comes to creating chances, making tackles and interceptions, and winning their duels on the deck and in the air.

Described as an “immense conductor” of play by Youth Scouting creator Max on X, the Venezia star could be a dream alongside McGregor as their respective qualities in and out of possession could allow them to dominate opposition teams.

Rangers’ Shankland stance revealed, Celtic set huge price, another Scotland star joins Serie A – transfer news

Here are all the latest Scottish transfer headlines this Tuesday morning – including Rangers, Celtic, Hibs and Hearts.

Hibs loan star for megabucks switch after Easter Road stint

Ex-Hibs striker Myziane Maolida is set for a big money switch to the Saudi Pro League after his impressive loan spell at Easter Road last term. The 25-year-old forward moved to Edinburgh on loan in January from 2. Bundesliga outfit Hertha Berlin and scored 10 times in the Scottish Premiership after being brought to the club by ex-head coach Nick Montgomery. The Paris born player has been weighing up his options this summer after seeing his contract come to an end in the German capital and, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, he has decided on a switch to the middle-east. Reports state the player has already had a medical with Saudi outfit Al Kholood, as a move edges closer.

Former Celtic star nets trial at EPL side

Scotland international midfielder Stuart Armstrong could be set for a move to the EPL after impressing during a trial game for Brentford at the weekend. The 32-year-old netted five goals for Southampton in the EFL Championship last season as the Saints returned to the English top flight at the first time of asking via the playoffs, but is now available on a free transfer after his contract came to an end at St Mary’s. He had been linked with a move to Serie A side Fiorentina earlier in the window, but featured in Brentford’s 5-2 win over AFC Wimbledon at the weekend as a trialist and appears to have impressed Bees head coach Thomas Frank: “Great experience, great player, great career,” said the Brentford boss. “There is more in him, there is no doubt about that. He has been training with us and a bit of helping each other. Him, to get him to a good level, and for us, we have another good player in and that is the plan so far.”

Hoops set price for in-demand midfield ace

Celtic have warned club they will not be bullied into selling midfield ace Matt O’Riley this summer. According to Sky Sports, a second bid – thought to be around £14.3 million plus add-ons – was made by Italian side Atlanta earlier this week as the Serie A outfit push to sign the Denmark international, who also has interest from Juventus, Atletico Madrid and Roma. However, the Hoops are adamant they will not be pushed into a sale and are thought to have set an asking price of £26 million for the player. “Celtic is a club where you can move on but you don’t have to and it’s a very difficult club to move on from,” said Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers. “I think we all understand, the people close to Celtic, the model Celtic works to. Matt’s been at the club for three years, he’s developed into the player he has and he knows the privilege it is to play for Celtic. Naturally with the wages that are on offer for players then that makes it a real challenge for Celtic to compete at that level. But what I’ve seen with Matt is he’s a first-class professional. He’s a really humble guy who’s really devoted to his profession and he knows what he has here.” The midfielder is under contract at Celtic Park until the summer of 2027, meaning Celtic are under no pressure to sell.

Scotland striker makes Serie A move

Scotland international striker Che Adams has turned down offers to return to the EPL after making a surprise move to Italian side Torino. The striker, who started all three of Scotland’s Euro 2024 games, had been available as a free agent having come to the end of his contract with Southampton and was in high-demand after scoring 16 goals in the EFL Championship last year. Both Nottingham Forest and Wolverhampton Wanderers were said to have made strong offers to the forward, while Southampton were also hopeful of convincing the player to extend his five-year-stay at St Mary’s. However, it is the Italian side have won the race for his signature, with the club announcing Adams’ arrival last night. Adams, 28, has agreed a three-year contract with Torino, who are aiming to push for European football in 24/25 after finishing ninth in Serie A last season.

Gers change stance on Shankland

Rangers boss Philippe Clement could be set for a sensational transfer U-turn this summer after it emerged the Ibrox giants may look to ‘test’ Hearts’ resolve over free-scoring striker Lawrence Shankland. According to the Daily Record, the Belgian boss has placed the Scotland international back onto his wanted list this summer despite deciding against a move for the 24-goal striker in January. The 28-year-old forward was the Scottish Premiership’s leading goal scorer last term and has been heavily linked with a move to Glasgow over the last six months, though the Tynecastle club insist no bid has been forthcoming throughout. The report states Clement will look to push on with a bid for the forward – IF he can make sufficient transfer sales to raise funds in the coming weeks. It is claimed that the Gorgie side will dig their heels in for a fee of around £3 million though, despite the player entering the final year of his contract at Tynecastle.

Celtic could soon make bid for player they have tracked since 2020 after getting Kasper Schmeichel

Celtic could soon submit a bid for a player the Bhoys have tracked since at least 2020 after signing Kasper Schmeichel.

Brendan Rodgers recently managed to lure the Denmark international to Glasgow – having previously worked with the Dane at Leicester City.

Now, Celtic could bid for a player they have monitored for years after securing the signing of Kasper Schmeichel

Celtic targeting Jakub Kaluzinski

A story from Sporx in Turkey now claims that Celtic could soon make a bid for Jakub Kaluzinski.

The Poland international is being valued at €4m (£3.4m) by Antalyaspor this summer, with Real Valladolid also keen to secure his signature.

Sporx believe the Spanish side have already seen a €2.5m (£2.1m) offer rejected.

Interestingly, the Turkish news outlet add that Celtic could soon make a bid of their own, having monitored Kaluzinski since his time at Lechia Gdańsk – which started in 2020 and ended in July 2023 when he signed for Antalyaspor.

The man from Gdańsk – aged 21 – made 35 appearances in defensive midfield for Antalyaspor last season, providing two assists.

Kaluzinski also made Poland’s preliminary squad for UEFA Euro 2024 this summer, but did not make the final cut.

Bhoys must be quick

Celtic need to decide whether they are serious about signing Kaluzinski soon, as Sporx believe Real Valladolid are already preparing an improved bid.

The Spanish side are seemingly making good progress in negotiations with Antalyaspor, and will be able to move onto discussions over personal terms with the Pole if a fee is agreed.

That would leave Celtic even further behind in this transfer battle, so those at Celtic Park must submit a bid for Kaluzinski soon, or else they risk missing out on the Antalyaspor No.18 this summer – there could soon be money to spend too.

Ultimately, a sum of £3.4m is not a lot to spend on a promising 21-year-old who is showing excellent development, and if the move goes well, Celtic could stand to make a huge profit, given his age.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as Celtic could soon make an offer.

Rangers ace with 309 appearances ‘completes’ exit medical as top Celtic target edges closer to transfer

Rangers are expected to lose a high-profile star as a Celtic target edges closer to a move elsewhere

Rangers stalwart Connor Goldson has successfully undergone medical tests with Aris Limassol ahead of his proposed departure from Ibrox.

Football Scotland understands that the centre back has already flown out to Cyprus to finalise the move while reports from the Daily Record add that the deal is imminent.

Aris Limassol finished fourth in the Cypriot Super League last season and see the option of signing Goldson as a major coup given his vast experience of competing at the highest level.

The Wolverhampton born defender has represented the Light Blues on 309 occasions in all competitions since making the move to Glasgow in the summer of 2018.

In that time he has lifted the Scottish Premiership, Scottish Cup and most recently the Scottish League Cup. The 31-year-old also formed part of the team which defied expectations to reach the final of the Europa League in 2022 before a heartbreaking defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt.

Former manager Steven Gerrard, now of Al Ettifaq, and League One side Birmingham City were both credited with interest in the versatile defender, but it appears that Limassol have won the race.

Goldson was under contract at Rangers until 2026 and it is suspected that the Gers will also get a sizable fee from his departure that can be reinvested in the first team squad throughout the summer.

Celtic suffer transfer blow as Fiorentina push to sign target

Fiorentina are the frontrunners to sign highly-rated Celtic target Andrea Colpani this summer, according to reports from Italian outlet Firenze Viola. Colpani is a 25-year-old winger that has represented Italy at both U20 and U21 level. He started his career at Atalanta after progressing through the club’s academy, but is best known for his four-year association with Monza.

Colpani originally arrived at Monza on a two-year loan deal in 2020 but this move was ultimately made permanent in 2022 after a string of impressive performances which saw him help the White and Reds reach the top-flight for the first time in their history.

The young winger has continued to thrive since making the move to Serie A. In the 2022/23 campaign he contributed four goals and one assist from 27 appearances to help the team beat the drop in 11th position.

Last term, he doubled his goal tally with eight strikes and also recorded four assists as his team finished 12th in the Serie A table. Colpani’s ability to influence games has earned interest from Celtic, who are keen to add further goals from out wide after the high-profile departure of Jota last summer.

However, Fiorentina are currently the favourites to secure his signature. Firenze Viola claims negotiations are ongoing but claims the stumbling block at the moment is the method of the transfer. Fiorentina are hoping to strike a loan deal for Colpani which includes an option to buy, while Monza are only willing to sell their star asset if they receive a permanent bid.

There is no current agreement on valuation between the two parties, but it is reported that the gap is close and can easily be resolved in the coming weeks.

Fiorentina would be able to offer the winger Europa Conference League football next season as they aim to win the competition after losing back-to-back finals. Whereas, Celtic would be able to offer the winger Champions League football if they return to the table with a bid.

Celtic Star Flying Out Tonight To Seal Move Away

Celtic goalkeeper Benjamin Siegrist is set to undergo his medical with Rapid Bucharest before finalising his exit from the Glasgow club, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The goalkeeper has been on Celtic’s books since June 2022 but has not been able to establish himself as the first-choice goalkeeper.

Over the course course of his two-year stay, the 32-year-old managed just two appearances and is now set to bring his stint there to an end.

Siegrist is now close to a move to Romania where Rapid Bucharest have been trying to sign him.

In fact, Siegrist is flying in to Bucharest this evening, where he will then be put through his medical paces.

Siegrist has already agreed a two-year deal with Rapid Bucharest with the club having the option of extending the stay by another year.

At Superbet Arena-Giulesti Siegrist will be playing under former Celtic manager Neil Lennon, who took over only in May.

Siegrist is a product of Aston Villa’s youth academy but never got the chance to make his mark there.

Norwich City transfers: Chris Sutton on Adam Idah and Celtic

Adam Idah is still being heavily linked with a move to Celtic (Image: Adam Harvey/Newsquest Ltd)

Norwich City legend Chris Sutton still expects Adam Idah to leave the club this summer, despite a positive start to pre-season.

Celtic’s interest in the 23-year-old continues to dominate headlines north of the border, with manager Brendan Rodgers keen to bring him back to Parkhead.

Idah is also open to re-joining his former loan club after a successful spell in Scotland, but Canaries head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup has made his appreciation of the Irishman clear.

City’s new boss started him both of their pre-season clashes in Belgium, praising him after an assist in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Standard Liege. That came after a series of glowing assessments earlier in the summer, with both Thorup and sporting director Ben Knapper talking up the striker’s talents.

The Hoops have yet to make an acceptable bid for Idah, but have seen their funds boosted after selling out-of-favour South Korean international Oh Hyeon-gyu.

Former Norwich and Celtic forward Sutton says that could be an indicator the Scottish champions haven’t given up on Idah up yet, with squad building continuing less than two weeks out from their opening league game against Kilmarnock.

“The return of the international players will give the side a more familiar look over in the United States but there is still work to be done,” he wrote in his Daily Record column.

“The decision to allow Oh Hyeon-gyu to leave suggests to me Celtic are confident they will get Adam Idah back, despite some of the noises from Norwich.

“I’m sure Rodgers would have preferred to have him on board for the US but the good thing about Idah is they know all about him and he wouldn’t need time to settle in.

“Celtic can afford to wait until the deal is right and he’ll walk back into the set-up without too much fuss.”

Celtic Exit on the Cusp as Outcast Agrees Two-Year Deal

Celtic goalkeeper Benjamin Siegrist is on the verge of finalising a transfer to Rapid Bucharest, having already flown in to undergo a medical.

The Swiss goalkeeper has struck a two-year agreement with the Romanian club, which also includes an option to extend for a further year. No fee has been mentioned in the reports.

The move comes after Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers confirmed that Siegrist would be leaving the club this summer. The arrival of Kasper Schmeichel and Viljami Sinisalo at Celtic Park had cast doubt over Siegrist’s future, with speculation about his departure intensifying even further.

Neil Lennon, the former Celtic manager who now manages Rapid Bucharest, has shown a keen interest in bringing Siegrist to his current team. Celtic has facilitated the move by allowing the 32-year-old to travel to Romania to negotiate terms, indicating a mutual interest in securing a permanent deal.

Rodgers commented on the situation, noting, “It’s fair to say that with Benji (Siegrist), he’ll be looking to move on.”

This move could provide Siegrist with the opportunity for regular first-team football and a fresh start under a familiar face from his time in Scotland.

Celtic Invincible given chance to land Premier League contract

Celtic Invincible Stuart Armstrong is currently on trial with Premier League side Brentford in an attempt to earn a deal. After leaving Southampton following their Premier League promotion, Armstrong has been linked with a number of clubs.

Thomas Frank’s side have offered the 32-year-old the chance to prove that he’s fully recovered from a muscle injury.

Brentford played Armstrong in a 5-2 pre-season friendly win over AFC Wimbledon. The 51-cap Scotland star would likely relish a chance to stay in the Premier League as well as the chance to work alongside his pal, Kris Ajer.

Celtic have been linked with a move for Armstrong, who was released by Southampton after failing to agree new terms following their promotion to the Premier League. Celtic sold Armstrong in the summer of 2018 in a deal worth in excess of £7m. The departure was inevitable as Armstrong clearly wanted to have a crack at the Premier League.

Armstrong was a top player for Celtic, really kicking on under Brendan Rodgers and helping Celtic towards a Double Treble. After signing alongside Gary Mackay-Steven, Armstrong went onto make 144 appearances for Celtic, scoring 28 times and racking up 25 assists.

Born just as Celtic were stopping the Ten, Lubo98 follows Celtic home and away and helps run his local Celtic Supporters Club. He goes to all the games and is a Law Graduate. Has a particular fondness for Tom Rogic among the current Celts and both Lubo and Henrik form his earliest Celtic memories.

Matt O’Riley subject of comprehensive Celtic answer over his transfer future as Atalanta and Co left wanting

Atalanta are pushing hard to land the playmaker with more than £15m currently on the table.

Brendan Rodgers insists Celtic are under no pressure to cash in on Matt O’Riley after another bid from Atalanta was booted into touch. writes Michael Gannon in America.

The Italians are pushing hard to land the playmaker with more than £15m currently on the table. Rodgers admitted every player has a price – but O’Riley won’t be allowed to go on the cheap. He said: “We’re all quite relaxed about it. Every player has a value but we see him as a really important player and while he’s here we’ll continue to develop him and improve. There’s no update. We’re fairly relaxed, you saw him in the game the other night.

“He’s working well and is focus. Naturally when you’re a good young player who’s committed and professional as he is he will get attention.

But naturally with the wages that are on offer for players then that makes it a real challenge for Celtic to compete at that level. But what I’ve seen with Matt is he’s a first-class professional. He’s a really humble guy who’s really devoted to his profession and he knows what he has here.”

Leeds United enter race for 33-goal Celtic and Everton target as Derby discuss Sunderland and Newcastle target exit

The latest transfer talk from across the Championship.

Leeds United and Ipswich Town are reportedly the latest clubs to shown an interest in Blackburn Rovers star Sammie Szmodics.

The Mirror have claimed Rovers have offered an improved contract to the Republic of Ireland international as they do all they can to persuade Szmodics to remain at Ewood Park. However, reports have suggested a number of Premier League clubs have registered an interest in the forward and Ipswich are the latest addition to a growing list as they prepare for their long-awaited return to the top flight.

Leeds are also said to be keen on Szmodics as the Whites aim to shake off the disappointment of last season’s Championship play-off final loss against Southampton and fire their way to promotion back into the Premier League at the second attempt. With the likes of Crysencio Summerville and Wilfried Gnonto both likely to leave Elland Road before the end of the summer transfer window, Leeds are said to have put their interest ‘on the table’ – and Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony believes the addition of his former striker would ‘guarantee promotion’ for the Whites.

Speaking to the Posh website, he said: “Sammie, if I was Leeds United, because they are going to lose some talent, doing what they have to do to bring in. He is pretty much guaranteeing you promotion because you’re buying the Golden Boot winner. That’s my tip Leeds fans, you should be buying Sammie Szmodics. Sorry Blackburn fans.”

The likes of Celtic and Everton have also been linked with a move for Szmodics in recent months and the forward has already hinted he would like to try and prove the doubters wrong by making a step into a higher level of the game. Speaking to Sportsboom earlier this summer, he said: “I’d like to think so (I could make the step up to the Premier League), but it’s about getting that opportunity and chance to do so. But hopefully I’ve shown people who doubted me in the Championship what I can do and that I can make that step up and do it at that level. We’ll have to see what the future holds. It’s everyone’s dream to play in the Premier League – and hopefully I can achieve that.”

Derby discuss possible departure of Sunderland target

Derby County manager Paul Warne has revealed he is taking ‘one phone call a day’ about a possible move for Rams youngster Dajaune Brown.

The 18-year-old striker enjoyed an overwhelmingly successful half-season loan spell at Gateshead as he scored 10 goals in 22 appearances in all competitions for the Tynesiders and helped Rob Elliot’s side to lift the FA Trophy as he scored in normal time and hit the winning penalty in a shoot-out win against Solihull Moors. His form at the International Stadium reportedly sparked interest from the likes of Sunderland and Newcastle United – and the North East rivals are far from the only interested parties monitoring the youngster’s progress in pre-season.

Speaking to BBC Radio Derby, Rams boss Warne said: “I normally get one phone call about him a day, about one club who wants to sign him. I am in no rush to let him go, but I also do not want to hinder his progress. So, unfortunately Derby comes before a player and that is the honest truth. At this moment in time he is staying within the camp until otherwise… but I try not to pick people through reputation, if he is the best striker in the building then I would be stupid not to play him.

“He has got a long way to go. We will see him again in the next couple of pre-season games and go from there. If I think it is better for him to go out on loan then there are plenty of suitors, but you get nine on the bench and you need to keep players when you can.”

Celtic in the hunt to land £6m star who could be Hatate 2.0

Celtic are just a couple of weeks away from opening their Scottish Premiership campaign for the 2024/25 season with a clash against Kilmarnock at Parkhead.

The Hoops have made two additions to their first-team squad so far during the summer transfer window, ahead of the season-opener, and both are goalkeepers.

Kasper Schmeichel has come in on a free transfer from Anderlecht to replace fellow veteran Joe Hart, whilst Viljami Sinisalo has joined from Aston Villa on a permanent deal.

Hart retired at the end of the 2023/24 campaign, after three years with the club, and Celtic now have two shot-stoppers to compete for his place.

The Scottish giants are not done there, though, as they have reportedly held talks over a deal for Antwerp star Michel-Ange Balikwisha, whilst they have agreed a £3.5m deal to sign Paulo Bernardo from Benfica.

This shows that the club are currently working on transfers to come in and improve their options across the park after resolved their goalkeeper issues first and foremost.

Whilst Bernardo appears poised to come in to bolster Brendan Rodgers‘ midfield ranks, after spending last season on loan at Parkhead, Celtic are also interested in a deal to bring another midfielder to Glasgow before the end of the summer transfer window.

Celtic’s interest in midfield dynamo

According to the Daily Record, the Premiership champions are in the hunt to sign American midfielder Tanner Tessmann from Venezia this summer.

The report claims that the Scottish giants have been ‘alerted’ to the potential of a deal being on the cards for the midfield maestro, as his proposed move to Inter fell through.

It also states that he is valued at £6m and it remains to be seen whether or not the Hoops have that in their budget, or if they are willing to spend that on him.

Tessmann, who was dubbed a “cerebral operator” by talent ID recruiter Jonathan Stoop, has emerged as a target amid interest in current Bhoys star Matt O’Riley.

The Daily Record adds that Liverpool are now interested in a swoop for the Denmark international, whilst Serie A side Atalanta are also keen on him.

However, Tessmann’s form for Venezia and style of play actually suggests that he would be more suited as an alternative or future successor to Reo Hatate in the middle of the park, rather than O’Riley – if he were to depart this summer.

Reo Hatate’s qualities in midfield

The Japan international is a dynamic midfielder who does not offer too much in terms of his defensive contributions due to his lack of physicality.

He makes up for that, though, with the quality that he can offer in possession of the ball, as the Hoops whiz can chip in with goals and assists at the top end of the pitch.

In the 2022/23 season, the 26-year-old star produced six goals, eight assists, and ten ‘big chances’ created in 32 league matches for the Scottish giants.

Hatate proved that he has the quality, movement, and vision, to be a reliable source of goals and creativity from a midfield position at Premiership level, with 14 direct goal contributions in those 32 games.

Unfortunately, injuries blighted his most recent campaign in a Celtic jersey as the Japanese ace only managed to make 16 appearances in the Premiership.

As you can see in the table above, Hatate still showcased his ability in the final third with seven direct goal contributions in just 12 starts, which works out as more than one every other start on average.

His lack of game time in the league, though, came down to three separate injury issues that he sustained throughout the campaign, including one to each calf and one to his hamstring. Those three blows kept the midfielder out of action for a staggering 40 games for club and country.

The midfield ace’s injury problems are a cause for concern and that is why Rodgers should swoop to sign Tessmann from Venezia this summer, as the American star could come in as a dream alternative to Hatate, a 2.0 version of the Japan international.

Why Tanner Tessmann could be Reo Hatate 2.0

Firstly the Serie B maestro is four years younger than Hatate, at the age of 22, and could be a long-term successor to the current Celtic talent, as well as providing immediate competition for his place.

The 22-year-old gem is coming off the back of an impressive season in the Serie B for Venezia and his statistics suggest that the potential is there for him to provide an exciting attacking threat from a deep-lying midfield role.

Tessmann is a progressive passer and someone who can get forward to chip in with goals and assists of his own to be a difference-maker for his side.

In the Serie B last term, the young prospect ranked within the top 5% of his positional peers for progressive passes per 90 (6.93), which shows that he is constantly looking to play forward and on the front foot to get his teammates into advanced positions.

He also ranked within the top 25% for Expected Assisted Goals per 90 (0.12) and that speaks to his creative excellence in midfield, as he consistently creates high-quality chances for his fellow players.

Key passes per game

As you can see in the table above, Tessmann got forward to great effect with 12 goals and ‘big chances’ created combined across 37 outings in the second tier in Italy.

He also created more than one chance per match on average, which aligns with his impressive xAG per 90, and these statistics show that the USA international has the quality to be like Hatate for Celtic.

Just like the Japanese whiz, Tessmann can burst forward from a number eight role to contribute with goals, assists, ‘big chances’ created, and key passes at an impressive rate, which is why Rodgers should sign him to be Hatate 2.0.

Sporting director in Celtic transfer exit tease as he reveals ‘I do believe that something will happen soon’

A Celtic partnership has spawned loan transfer exits.

More Celtic youngsters are set to join the club’s feeder team in Austria, according to a sporting director.

Admira Wacker have provided a temporary home for promising Hoops prospects to go abroad and be exposed to vital first team minutes. The partnership was formed with the Premiership champions last season and it sent Scotland U21 defender Matthew Anderson and goalkeeper Tobi Oluwayemi to Austria.

Anderson was a regular during his time with Admira but his goalkeeper counterpart was hit by injury and unable to make a similar impact. Boss Brendan Rodgers has some of the young Lennoxtown crop with him for a pre-season camp in America.

Sports director Peter Stoger has had his say on potentially more loans from Celtic. No specific players are mentioned but he does expect some to arrive from Glasgow sooner rather than later.

He said: “We are in constant communication with Celtic and I do believe that something will happen soon. We are very hopeful to get players from them again. Matthew Anderson, in particular, did well last season and he has left a hole in the left hand side of the team that we need to fill again.”

There are a number of young players looking to make an impression Rodgers this pre-season. Francis Turley is one who has made headlines after getting in amongst the goals while the likes of Bosun Lawal, Colby Donovan, Dane Murray, Josh Dede and Kyle Ure have been pitched in from the start of friendly games. Next is a clash Stateside with Premier League champions Man City.

Celtic can sign 21-year-old midfielder for €4m – Brendan Rodgers looking to strengthen

According to a claim in the Turkish media, Celtic are still showing interest in Antalyaspor midfielder Jakub Kałuziński.

The 21-year-old Pole has been linked with Celtic in recent weeks as Brendan Rodgers looks to add to his squad this summer.

Initially it was reported in the Scottish media they were looking to come in with an offer for the player. Celtic have reportedly been following the midfielder since his time at Lechia Gdańsk.

Sporx today report on the latest developments regarding Celtic’s pursuit of the youngster, and they say they could get a deal done for as litlte as €4m. However, the Scottish champions should expect to face competition from Real Valladolid.

The Spanish side are reportedly in talks with his club and are expected to come in with an improved offer for him. Real Valladolid are looking to strengthen their squad in this window after promotion to La Liga last season.

Kałuziński made 35 appearances for the Super Lig club last season and is contracted until June 2026, with the option of another year.

Exclusive: Celtic demand record transfer fee for key player amid Liverpool links, Atalanta interest

Celtic have a history of selling players for big fees and sources have revealed to TEAMtalk that they could receive a huge fee for midfielder Matt O’Riley this summer.

The Glasgow club’s sales of Kieran Tierney (£25m to Arsenal) and Jota (£25m to Al-Ittihad) broke records in Scotland and they look set to do so again if the Denmark international leaves.

Sources have confirmed to TEAMtalk transfer correspondent Fraser (Fletcher) Gillan that O’Riley has interest from the Premier League, but Atalanta are pushing hard to get a deal done and are considered the big favourites to sign him.

Liverpool have also been linked with a move for the midfielder, who scored 19 goals and added 18 assists last season.

The Italian side have seen bids of around £16m rejected by Celtic but remain in talks over a summer transfer and are ready to launch an improved proposal.

We understand that Celtic are hoping for an overall package of around £26m for O’Riley, which is far off what Atalanta are offering.

However, that could be achieved by including add-ons and bonuses in the deal and the Europa League champions continue to push for a transfer.

TEAMtalk sources have suggested O’Riley is keen on the move to Italy and has verbally given the green light to the move, should there be an agreement between clubs.

The sale would bolster Celtic’s already strong financial position at the top of the Scottish football pyramid.

O’Riley won’t force Celtic exit

O’Riley captained Celtic during their friendlies against D.C. United and Queens Park, as he felt honoured to do so despite the speculation surrounding his future.

Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers has stated O’Riley “understands what a privilege an honour it is to play for the club.”

This tallies with TEAMtalk sources who state that the midfielder would never do anything to pressure or disrespect his employers and will keep giving 100% until he knows where his future lies.

Celtic have signed a replacement in Paulo Bernardo, who has joined from Benfica in a deal worth £3.5m. The Portuguese star is happy to be back at Parkhead after spending last season on loan at the club.

They are also working on a number of other positions with Brendan Rodgers keen to add another striker to the side before the window closes.

Rodgers will hope to reinvest the funds generated from a potential sale of O’Riley effectively, and build a squad that can compete in Europe and lift another Scottish Premiership title.

Atalanta Make New Bid For Liverpool Target Matt O’Riley, Amount Emerges

Atalanta have made a new offer for Liverpool target Matt O’Riley and the amount the Italians have put on the table to land the Celtic midfielder has emerged.

The Serie A club want to sign O’Riley and are keen to make sure they see off competitors for his signature.

Liverpool are the latest side credited with being keen on the Celtic man, but Atalanta are upping the ante and trying to get a deal done.

They have already had two bids rejected, but have now gone in with a third offer, according to Sky Italia.

The proposal now on the table for Celtic to consider for O’Riley is a fee of €17m.

It is €2m more than the previous offer that Celtic turned down for O’Riley.

O’Riley has already agreed the outlines of a five-year contract with Atalanta in the event they can agree a fee with Celtic for his services.

It remains to be seen if Celtic agree to Atalanta’s latest offer and, if they do, whether it pushes O’Riley’s other suitors, such as Arne Slot’s Liverpool, to also slap in a bid.

Jota used as Celtic transfer example as exciting £7m prediction that could leave Rangers in the dust made

Celtic transfer swirls continue to spin this summer.

Johan Mjallby reckons Celtic come to the summer transfer window armed with a healthy budget and potential for leaving Rangers in their wake.

The Hoops have bolstered their goalkeeping department with Kasper Schmeichel and Viljami Sinisalo so far this summer, but more arrivals are expected. Adam Idah and Paulo Bernardo are two they are on the prowl for, and Mjallby points to Jota and Cameron Carter-Vickers as perfect transfer examples.

With both joining in the £6-£7m price bracket – one since being sold for £25m to Al Ittihad and the other a mainstay of the team – the former defender and coach reckons it shows that market can unlock benefits for boss Brendan Rodgers. With the success of the last three seasons in mind, he reckons they’ll be keen to use the window as a chance to widen the gap between themselves and Rangers.

Mjallby told the Sunday Post: “There are five or six weeks of the window still to go and I expect some really good reinforcements to be added. I’ve no idea what the budget is for players this summer but I would expect it to be a really healthy one.

“It could well be Brendan is able to look at the market for players in the region of £6 million or £7 million. When you think the club signed Cameron Carter Vickers and Jota for that kind of money then you know the quality that’s out there.

“Also, I think that players in that price range are not too different from some players at £15 million. But winning titles and trophies must never be taken for granted. That’s why more new signings are required.

“Celtic will want to build on the success of the last three seasons and make sure Rangers don’t get anywhere near another title for years to come.”

Celtic in double striker transfer hunt as Brendan Rodgers reveals why 3 is a magic number

Rodgers wants two new hit men to supplement Kyogo

Brendan Rodgers has revealed is determined to bolster Celtic’s attack with TWO new strikers, writes Michael Gannon in the USA.

The Hoops boss is hoping to bring loan star Adam Idah back to Parkhead despite Norwich City playing hardball over the hitman. But Rodgers admitted he’ll need another frontman to add to the squad after the departures of Oh Hyeon-gyu and Rocco Vata. He said: ““I think my ideal scenario was to have three, was to have Kyogo, one other one and bring through a young player.

“That was the role we came up for at Rocco. It’s very difficult for a club of this size to have three number one strikers. You can live with two because we play so many games and the specific nature of the games then we can change it about. Three is very difficult. But I also think for development I want to bring some young, maybe a player from within.

“Rocco was that but he’s moved on. So we may have to look elsewhere. But three is a really good number. Two, I would say to be number one strikers, and one that we can nurture and develop.”

Rodgers is chasing a number of targets and has been linked with moves for Venezia midfielder Tanner Tessmann and Royal Antwerp winger Michel-Ange Balikwisha.

Celts are edging closer to bringing Paulo Bernardo in on a permanent deal from Benfica while keepers Kasper Schmeichel and Viljami Sinisalo have already checked in. Rodgers remained tight-lipped on transfer talk but said: “I’m really hopeful every day. We know we need to improve the squad.

“But we know we need to improve the squad, we want to develop. But in the meantime, whilst we await that, you can see the players that are here are developing well, working well and they’re playing some fantastic football at this pre-season stage.”

Rodgers confirmed keeper Benji Siegrist is heading for the exit, with the former Dundee United no.1 on his way to Neil Lennon’s Rapid Bucharest. The Hoops gaffer said: “It’s fair to say that with Benji, he’ll be looking to move on. He’s been a really professional guy. His spirit, he’d done well at United and come into Celtic and maybe wanted to play more. When he didn’t, and I can only speak for my year with him, he was exemplary.

“His professionalism, everything about him was first class. And when I spoke last season, we thought that probably for him, in this part of his career, he needed to go and play. So I believe that will be the case and he will move on.”

Rodgers is looking for his squad to step up their pre-season preparations with a tough test against Manchester City in North Carolina tomorrow night. The Hoops strolled to a 4-0 win against DC United in Washington at the weekend but the English Premier League champs will be a a huge step up, even if they still have some international stars to come back.

Celts gave their Scotland squad men game time against DC while Cameron Carter-Vickers and Daizen Maeda are set to make their pre-season bows – along with new no.1 Schmeichel. Rodgers said: “I think our next two games against Manchester City and Chelsea, another step for us in our pre-season. It’s gone ever so well to this point. Manchester City I know well, I’ve faced them many times.

“I think that the physical nature of the three games – on Saturday, we were behind DC because they’re midway through the season and at a really good physical level so we had to really push. The next two games we might be a week or so ahead of the two teams we play. But it doesn’t really matter.

“For us it’s they’re two fantastic preparation games against two world class clubs and I’m really looking forward to them and two teams that I know very well.”

Chris Sutton can’t believe what he’s heard been said about Kasper Schmeichel since he joined Celtic

Former Celtic hero, Chris Sutton, has told how he can’t believe what he’s been hearing about the signing of Kasper Schmeichel this week.

Schmeichel signed on the dotted line for the club after becoming a free agent and is likely to be Brendan Rodgers’ number-one pick for Celtic next season.

With Viljami Sinisalo also making the move to Celtic this summer, the Parkhead boss has made two shrewd moves to replace the retired Joe Hart.

But it’s the apparent reaction to the signing of Schmeichel that has particularly irked Sutton as he makes a prediction about the big Dane at Celtic.

Sutton slams ‘resistance’ to new Celtic signing

At 37, the signing of Schmeichel may have raised some eyebrows but it seems that enough negativity has caught the ears of Sutton and he wasn’t best pleased about it.

Sutton said [Daily Record], “There was always going to be big gloves to fill at Celtic following Joe Hart’s decision to retire at the end of last season.

“But Brendan Rodgers has found one of the few keepers around that can slot into them with ease. Hart had experience, stature and presence at the back for the club – and that is exactly what Kasper Schmeichel will bring as well.

“I find it quite incredible that there’s been some resistance to the signing. Listen, you always want the perfect fit.

“In an ideal world, you’d go out and sign some 28-year-old international who has yet to hit his peak, a guy with Champions League experience and who could make the club a lot of money down the line.

“But in the real world, those players are extremely hard to find – and even harder to afford. There are teams paying 10s of millions for those kinds of keepers.

“Celtic are not going to do that. I’ve got no doubts Schmeichel will be a success. I watched him at the Euros and he was excellent.”

I’ve got to say, I’ve not heard much negativity about the signing of Schmeichel, to be honest. Yes, there have been a few doubters but, in my humble opinion, the reaction to the Danish keeper coming to Paradise has largely been positive.

Schmeichel proved this summer that he still has what it takes to perform at the top level in football after making it to the last 16 of Euro 2024 with Denmark.

If the veteran ‘keeper can provide that level of performance at club level with Celtic next season, then those murmurings surrounding his capture will quickly dissipate into thin air.

Matt O’Riley ‘increased offer’ made as Liverpool competition ramps up for Celtic midfielder

Liverpool will have to deal with increasingly hot transfer competition if it wants to sign Matt O’Riley from Celtic, with another bid reportedly being lodged.

Liverpool has been linked with Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley. But time could be running out if it wants to strike a deal, with multiple bids going in for him.

Outside of the Scottish top flight, O’Riley is a relatively unknown quantity. But the former Fulham academy prospect just had a hugely successful season with Celtic, earning his first Denmark caps and scoring 18 times from midfield in the league.

Liverpool was actually credited with transfer interest back in 2022. That might well mean he was originally on a Michael Edwards list, and it would be no surprise to learn that tabs have been kept on him at Anfield in the intervening years.

And if ever there was a time to act, it may well be now, with Edwards back in the fold and O’Riley having just had such a brilliant campaign. At 23, he seems ready for the next step in his career — even if former Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers insists Celtic has no need to sell.

But if Liverpool is genuinely interested, it needs to get a move on. His form has not gone unnoticed, and Atalanta looks particularly keen to secure his services.

According to Gianluca di Marzio, the Serie A side has now tabled three bids to Celtic. The latest is worth $18.5m (£14.5m/€17m).

Moreover, O’Riley has agreed the outline of a five-year deal with Atalanta. Having suffered a Europa League defeat last season, Liverpool will not now want to come off second-best in the transfer market.

O’Riley’s form for Celtic has attracted suitors, with Liverpool reportedly among them. (Image: Ian MacNicol/Getty Images)

Liverpool.com says: Of course, Liverpool would not be “losing” to Atalanta if it never had any intention of making a bid. And that’s certainly a possibility, given the huge step up required from Celtic straight to Anfield.

Perhaps more pertinently than that, O’Riley does not meet a particular positional need for Liverpool. In fact, it signed three players in a broadly comparable mold last summer, adding Alexis Mac AllisterDominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch; if Arne Slot is to dip into the market in midfield, it will surely be for a specialist number six.

Much probably depends on just how high Liverpool thinks O’Riley’s ceiling is. It’s very believable that it is keeping tabs, but it will only move without having a clear space in the squad for him if it thinks he still has many more levels to find. Atalanta would be an intriguing transfer for him.

5 developing transfer headlines on Tessmann, Balikwisha, O’Riley, Idah and Bernardo as £6m powerhouse plots own path

It’s going off as the champions ramp up their business

Celtic are in the hunt to land £6million-rated USA midfield powerhouse Tanner Tessmann.

The Hoops have been alerted to the availability of the 22-year-old Venezia star after a potential move to Inter Milan broke down. Celtic are set to finalise Paulo Bernardo’s £3.75m permanent switch from Benfica but are also monitoring several midfield prospects with interest in Matt O’Riley ramping up.

Liverpool are now understood to be tracking the Parkhead playmaker with Serie A Atalanta expected to come back to the table after a £15m bid was kicked out last week.

Leicester and Southampton are also waiting in the wings but O’Riley is now attracting attention of talent spotters at Anfield. Celtic are assessing several options and Tessmann has emerged as a potential target.

The US international is a wanted man after a stellar season at Venezia, with Serie A rivals Parma and Torino also in the mix. EPL side Brentford are also on his trail with the Inter bid now dead in the water after the midfielder was turned off by talk of a potential loan move back to Venezia or to England.

Brendan Rodgers

Celts have already moved to snap up keeper Kasper Schmeichel – who hooked up with the Hoops squad ahead of their friendly with DC United – and rival glovesman Viljami Sinisalo.

Bernardo is all but a done deal and there is still optimism striker Adam Idah will return to Parkhead. The Irish hitman was involved with Norwich again and the Canaries are determined to dig their heels over the transfer fee.

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers is eying up another attacker and contact has already been made with Royal Antwerp regarding winger Michel-Ange Balikwisha – who can play across the front line. Meanwhile, Hoops youngster Joey Dawson has been hit by more injury heartbreak after suffering another more brutal cruciate ligament damage.

Report: Rangers dealt ‘huge blow’ in pursuit of Premier League star as Celtic enter race for Serie A midfielder

Rangers manager Philippe Clement. PIC: Andrew Milligan/PA Wire.

The latest transfer headlines for Hearts and Hibs rivals this weekend.

Hearts and Hibs have gotten stuck into the summer transfer window to prepare themselves for another competitive season in the Scottish Premiership. The Jambos have secured the likes of James Penrice and Blair Spittal, while Hibs added goalkeeper Jordan Smith to their roster earlier this week.

Those around the Edinburgh sides in Scotland’s top flight are also strengthening their ranks this summer. Let’s take a look at how some of their rivals have been navigating their own windows lately.

Rangers must sell players to fund move for 16-goal winger

Rangers are looking to strengthen their attack and have set their sights on a number of targets this summer. However, it’s proving difficult to finalise a move for those they are especially keen on.

After a successful loan spell at Ibrox last season, the Gers are keen on bringing Abdallah Sima to the club full-time but cannot afford such a move as things stand. That’s according to Football Insider, who report that Rangers will only be able to strike a deal with Brighton if ‘other players are sold’ first.

The Light Blues ‘cannot afford any major incoming signings’ due to their current financial situation and the £7 million asking price set for Sima ‘will likely prove too steep’ for Philippe Clement’ side.

Sima signed for Rangers last June on a season-long loan and he made a huge statement with his performances. The 23-year-old winger contributed an impressive 16 goals in all competitions, showing off his versatility too by playing in both wide positions, as well as in the No.9 role. Rangers’ current struggle to find the funds for Sima has been described as a ‘huge blow’ to the club.

Celtic ‘involved’ in race for Serie A midfielder

With the ball now rolling for Celtic following their signings of Kasper Schmeichel and Viljami Sinisalo, they are looking at further options to bolster their squad this summer. According to Italian transfer specialist Gianluca di Marzio, the Hoops are among those interested in signing Venezia midfielder Tanner Tessmann.

The 22-year-old US native had been in talks with Inter but talks have now ‘come to a halt’ as the Nerazzurri have not been able to reach an agreement with Tessmann’s representatives. Other clubs have now gathered into the picture, with Celtic joining the race alongside Brentford, and Italian trio Torino, Parma and Como.

Tessmann is a defensive midfielder by trade but still managed to pop up with seven goals and three assists last season as Venezia earned promotion to Serie A.

Who is Tanner Tessmann? The Celtic transfer ‘target’ who comes with an eye for goal and bargain price tag

The Hoops are in the running for the American playmaker who is making a name for himself in Italy

Celtic are reportedly in the mix for American midfielder Tanner Tessmann after Inter‘s move for the Venezia playmaker dramatically collapsed.

The American was a standout for the Venice side in their promotion to Serie A last season and has attracted plenty of interest over the last fewyears. A two-time USA cap, Venezia won the race for him in 2021 – and he’s since evolved from a robust midfield enforcer into a creative force despite a turbulent period at the Italian club. They’ll be back in the Italian top flight this season – but it’s likely to be without Tessmann.

News of Celtic‘s interest first came from Gianluca Di Marzio, who says the Hoops have joined Brentford, as well as Italy’s Torino, Parma and Como in pursuing the 22-year-old. There’s also been interest from Everton in the past, while Ipswich had reportedly hoped his move to Inter would go through so they could sign him on loan. So, what’s all the fuss about?

Tanner Tessmann trains for the Olympics (Image: Getty Images)

Who is Tanner Tessmann?

A central midfielder who started playing soccer at collegiate level in Alabama, Tessmann’s talent was spotted by FC Dallas in MLS who signed him to their academy in 2016. Then just 15, he quickly rose through the ranks, making his first-team debut in 2021. And he was just 19 games into his career as a senior pro when he was handed his first USA cap by Gregg Berhalter.

Venezia gave him his European breakthrough in 2021, paying just over £3m to bring him to Italy. A 20-year-old in his first season abroad, he initially struggled in Serie A – particularly with Venezia themselves scrambling to keep their heads above water. They dropped into Serie B, but that proved to be a blessing in disguise for Tessmann.

Out of the glare of the top flight, he has blossomed into a creative force of nature and managed 10 goal involvements last season (7G 3A) – a career best. Physically as strong as they come, he’s a bit of an all-rounder with an improving eye for goal and knows a key pass when he sees one. He’s on an upwards trajectory, and that’s why clubs around Europe are starting to take notice – getting in before he sets Serie A alight this season and his value skyrockets.

How much will he cost?

Venezia reportedly want €8m (£6.75m) for his services – a seemingly reasonable ask, but it’s thought that’s what torpedoed his move to Inter, who had plans to sign him and then loan him out. Club director Filippo Antonelli told TuttoMercato, he said: “It was closed with Inter. We wanted to keep the player on loan, but he wants to go elsewhere. Inter have been looking for a solution but they still haven’t identified which club he could join on loan. The deal may collapse because of this.”

It was reported that Ipswich were keen to take him on loan if that went through, but it’s now being reported all over Italy that the deal is off the table. And that leaves Celtic and Brentford, as well as a host of Italian clubs, from Serie A newboys Como to Turin giants Torino, circling like sharks.

£6.75m is at the high end of what Celtic would hope to pay but the Ipswich route of signing him on loan, if he signs for a powerhouse where he’s unlikely to play regularly, could be another way to get the deal done and limit the risk that comes with that type of immediate investment.

Where can Celtic fans watch him?

At the Olympics this summer! Tessmann is expected to captain the American U23 side at the Paris games and says it would be a dream of his to lift Gold. The US kick off against France on July 24 and any impressive performances from Tessmann could add a zero to his price tag.

“Besides Venezia and winning promotion, the Olympics is my main focus. To be part of one of the biggest sporting events in the world and represent my country would be a dream come true. Wow, it would just be an honour to be there.”

Who is Matt O’Riley? Liverpool interested in 19-goal Celtic star but faces transfer competition

Liverpool has been linked with a transfer for Celtic midfielder Matt O’Reilly, who had a prolific season in Scotland last year. We’ve taken a look at him.

Liverpool has been linked with a flurry of new players recently as we approach the final month of the transfer window. One of the more left-field names to emerge is Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley.

It’s been a slow burn for the new era at Liverpool, with sporting director Richard Hughes keeping his powder dry while Arne Slot gets to grips with the squad he inherited from Jurgen Klopp. The upshot is that the Reds are one of just two Premier League sides yet to dip into the transfer market.

That only invites more scrutiny on the first deal when it finally happens. And it’s been suggested that O’Riley could be handed the honor of being the first through the door, with Rudy Galetti reporting that Liverpool is being kept “well-informed” on the situation.

Atalanta of Serie A has supposedly “moved first” for the Celtic man, but it remains an open race. In La Liga, Atletico Madrid is also staying abreast of developments.

So who exactly is O’Riley, and what’s the potential transfer appeal to Liverpool? The 23-year-old moved north of the border to Celtic from MK Dons in January 2022, having initially come through the youth system at Fulham (he made a League Cup appearance in 2018/19, when the Cottagers were in the top flight, but is yet to taste Premier League action).

Born in England, he was eligible to represent Denmark or Norway through his mother’s side. Having played for various English age-group sides, he made the switch at U21 level, and is now a full Danish international.

You wouldn’t know it from his name, but Matt O’Riley is a Danish international. (Image: Ulrik Pedersen/NurPhoto via Getty Images)

That speaks to the impressive form he has continued to show at Celtic. He showed at MK Dons that he is a central midfielder with an uncommon eye for a goal, and that has been the case in Scotland as well.

O’Riley hit 18 goals in the Scottish top flight last season, contributing 13 assists for good measure. He also played the vast majority of minutes, having remained remarkably injury-free throughout his career to date.

It’s not actually the first time Liverpool has been credited with an interest. Back in 2022, just six months into O’Riley’s stint at Celtic, the Reds were among a host of top clubs supposedly tracking the midfielder.

If Liverpool has continued to keep a watchful eye, it will have seen a player continuing to develop and thrive. This could be an interesting one to watch.

Liverpool.com says: There is undoubtedly talent to be found in the Scottish top flight. And O’Riley comes with the added benefit of experience in the English football pyramid.

Conor Bradley has proven that the jump from League One to the Premier League is far from insurmountable, and O’Riley has had a pretty ideal intermediate step at Celtic. That’s given him some Champions League game time, as well as the responsibility of playing a central role in a title charge.

Celtic have brought in two new players during the summer window and now seem to be pushing on with attempts for more.

Both the players they’ve signed have been goalkeepers – the experienced Kasper Schmeichel along with the highly-rated younger man Viljami Sinisalo, who will be mentored by and learn from the Dane over the next season or two, with a view to taking over as No.1.

Manager Brendan Rodgers wants quality additions in other areas too and is pressing on with that. Midfielder Paulo Bernardo is one of those desired after impressing enough on loan last season, and a permanent deal for him seems to be getting closer and closer.

O Bola is now reporting a £3.4million fee has now been agreed with Benfica, with 30 per cent on any profit the Hoops make added on. The 22-year-old won’t be included in the Eagles’ squad to take on Almeria tomorrow and could soon join up with Celtic in the USA.

Another reported Hoops target is Michel-Ange Balikwisha. Interest in the Antwerp winger, who has scored goals in the Belgian top flight and the Champions League, emerged last week and it was believed talks had already taken place with his representatives.

Adam Idah has been handed another Norwich start as they look determined to disappoint Celtic and include him in their plans.

The Hoops and manager Brendan Rodgers would love to bring the Republic of Ireland striker back on a permanent deal after his more-than-productive half-season on loan in the last campaign. It’s looking like a tricky one to do though and Canaries’ new boss Johannes Hoff Thorup stated he wanted to take a look at the player in pre-season.

He was then picked from the start when the English Championship side faced Club Brugge in a friendly earlier in the week. Idah was then hooked after just half an hour of the match but Thorup later insisted it was a planned substitution. He also sent a strong message to Celtic with his post-match comments.

Adam Idah to Celtic addressed directly as Norwich City boss makes bold statement and reveals one-to-one chat

“Hopefully, on Saturday we can build him up to a little bit more. From watching his qualities and what he can do, he will be an important player for us. We have to take into consideration this was the first 30 minutes from him for a long while and he will be better. But I think he showed some signs of what we can get out of him.

“We gave him a couple of passes where he had to chest it and hold it and gave a couple of lay-offs to progress the game. I think he did well in that sense. We could have used him even more in the offensive part of the game but I think that will come. From what I see, it’s a matter of time.”

Now, Idah starts for Norwich again today. He leads the line for them in their latest friendly against Standard Liege.

Deal Agreed: Paulo Bernardo’s Permanent Move to Celtic All But Confirmed

Celtic are on the brink of securing Paulo Bernardo on a permanent deal following his successful loan spell at the club. The midfielder, who joined Celtic on loan from Benfica last season, impressed with significant contributions in key matches despite not holding down a permanent spot on the team.

The two clubs have agreed on a transfer fee of £3.375 million, with Benfica also securing a 30 per cent sell-on clause for any future transfer. [Barry Anderson]This agreement highlights the potential Benfica sees in Bernardo and their hope for his continued development at Celtic.

The personal terms between Bernardo and Celtic have been verbally agreed upon, with only the final paperwork remaining to be signed to make the deal official. Bernardo’s successful integration into the team last season, where he made 33 appearances and scored four goals, has made the decision to sign him permanently a logical step for the club.

During his loan spell, Bernardo became an important player for Celtic, contributing not just with goals but also with key assists and consistent performances in midfield. His versatility and work rate endeared him to the fans, making his permanent signing a priority for the club this summer.

With pre-season well underway, the completion of Bernardo’s transfer will provide Celtic with a significant boost as they prepare for the upcoming season. His familiarity with the team’s playing style and his established relationships with teammates will ensure he continues to be a vital asset for Celtic.

Transfers: Newcastle sign defender Miodrag Pivas, Saoirse Noonan joins Celtic

Miodrag Pivas: ‘It’s absolutely unbelievable to join such a big club like Newcastle United’

Newcastle United have announced the signing of 19-year-old defender Miodrag Pivas from Serbian club FK Jedinstvo Ub.

Pivas, who has represented Serbia at Under-17 level, played as a defensive midfielder for Jedinstvo last season as they won promotion to the Serbian Super Liga.

Pivas said: “It’s absolutely unbelievable to join such a big club like Newcastle United and I cannot wait to get started. I see the project of the club and it looks great which helped convince me to sign for Newcastle.

“I see the young players have developed very well here and I would like to do the same – to develop and get into Newcastle’s first team. I’m very excited and I can’t wait to begin.”

Magpies chief executive Darren Eales said Pivas’ capture was part of an ongoing drive to identify potential as the club continues to operate within Premier League profitability and sustainability rules.

Eales said: “Miodrag is a promising talent with high potential. Our recruitment network is continuing to watch young players like Miodrag around the world with a view to identifying and developing them into first-team players of the future.”

On Friday Celtic Women wrapped up a deal to bring in Republic of Ireland attacker Saoirse Noonan.

The 25-year-old Cork native joins the Hoops on a three-year deal after a stint with Durham in the FA Women’s Championship. She’ll link up with fellow Ireland international Caitlin Hayes at the reigning champions.

“It’s a bit surreal for me,” said Noonan. “I’ve been a Celtic fan growing up, all my family are Celtic fans. To be here is a bit surreal and I can’t wait to get going.

“Celtic is a huge club and I’m delighted to be part of it. I’m Irish, I play with my heart on my sleeve, I bleed with green. I’ll give my all, work hard as I can and hopefully get plenty of goals.”

Rodgers has now personally held talks with 23 y/o target over Celtic move

After welcoming Kasper Schmeichel, Brendan Rodgers has now reportedly personally held talks with another Celtic target as the Bhoys look to continue their recent resurgence in the summer transfer window.

Celtic transfer news

All was quiet on the transfer front at Celtic Park. The Scottish Premiership champions seemed content with the squad which just secured a third consecutive league title before they finally burst into life to solve their goalkeeper problem. Having welcomed Viljami Sinisalo from Aston Villa, Celtic wasted no time finding competition and an outright No 1 to replace the retired Joe Hart – signing Premier League winner Schmeichel on a free deal.

Speaking to CelticTV after officially signing for the Scottish giants, Schmeichel said: “I am absolutely delighted to join Celtic and can’t wait to get started.

“Celtic is one of the world’s proper football clubs, a massive name and a place of real passion and success. Celtic is what football is all about.

“I know Brendan very well, too. He is a top manager and someone I can’t wait to work with again. I’m really looking forward to meeting up with the boys in America and start our work and then, of course, meet our fans who bring so much to Celtic. I will be doing all I can to keep Celtic on top and bring these brilliant supporters more and more success.”

Now, after finding their replacement for Hart, the Bhoys’ transfer window looks unlikely to die down again. According to reporter Sacha Tavolieri, Rodgers has now personally held talks with Michel-Ange Balikwisha in an attempt to convince the winger into a move away from Royal Antwerp amid recent talks.

Just 23 years old, Balikwisha could emerge as Celtic’s first attacking boost of the summer before the transfer window slams shut at the end of next month.

Balikwisha can replace Oh

Following recent reports linking the forward with a summer move away from Scotland, Celtic may need to replace Hyeon-gyu Oh in the coming weeks by welcoming Balikwisha. The Antwerp left-winger, who can also play as a second-striker, has plenty of potential and could become the latest player to realise that potential under the guidance of Rodgers.

After ten goals and eight assists in all competitions for Royal Antwerp last season, Balikwisha has little to prove on the output front, and if Celtic lose Matt O’Riley as well as key depth in Oh this summer, goals could be of short supply. Following talks with Rodgers, the 23-year-old is certainly one to keep an eye on.

I find Celtic fan resistance to Kasper Schmeichel transfer incredible as Joe Hart succession plan is clear – Chris Sutton

The veteran goalkeeper has been met with a mixed reception as he signed just days after Viljami Sinisalo

Joe Hart and Kasper Schmeichel share a joke

There were always going to be big gloves to fill at Celtic following Joe Hart’s decision to retire at the end of last season.

But Brendan Rodgers has found one of the few keepers around that can slot into them with ease. Hart had experience, stature and presence at the back for the club – and that is exactly what Kasper Schmeichel will bring as well. I find it quite incredible that there’s been some resistance to the signing.

Listen, you always want the perfect fit. In an ideal world you’d go out and sign some 28-year-old international who has yet to hit his peak, a guy with Champions League experience and who could make the club a lot of money down the line. But in the real world, those players are extremely hard to find – and even harder to afford. There are teams paying 10s of millions for those kinds of keepers. Celtic are not going to do that.

So they have to think out side the box. They can either go for an experienced veteran or an up and coming youngster. It turns out they have done both.

Schemeichel is on the way and Viljami Sinisalo has also arrived with a view of him being No.1 in the future. There’s a succession plan in place. I’ve been mildly critical at the lack of signings so far this summer but you have to say the two keepers coming in looks like smart business.

Schmeichel will be the main man and there’s an eye on the future with Sinisalo, who has come in as a prospect with a lot of potential. I’ve got no doubts Schmeichel will be a success. I watched him at the Euros and he was excellent.

Celtic transfer news latest as American star Tessmann ‘targeted’ after rejecting Inter and state of play on new winger

People will point to his age and the fact he’s actually older than Hart, who has just called time on his career. But age is just a number – especially when it comes to shot-stoppers.

Schmeichel didn’t look like he’d lost any sharpness for Denmark as he took his cap count to way beyond the century. He also played the majority of games for Anderlecht in Belgium last season.

No one can doubt his pedigree either. It’s slightly interesting in that it was Rodgers who let him go from Leicester City, but clearly the pair had a solid relationship given they will be reunited at Celtic. I’d be looking at Schmeichel to have a similar role as Hart had at the club.

The former No.1 had the same questions asked about him when he arrived. He was youngster than Schmeichel now but some people were suggesting he was washed up or on the wane.

Instead he was reinvigorated. Hart was one of the biggest influences in the dressing room. His leadership and temperament was crucial. It’s not easy living in the Glasgow goldfish bowl and it’s not just about being a decent keeper.

It’s about having concentration, providing inspiration and leading by example in a dressing room full of young players from around the world. Callum McGregor is the Celtic captain but Hart was a right hand man. He had an outstanding career – and the same goes for Schmeichel.

Celtic celebrations after lifting Scottish Premiership trophy

The Dane has been around the top level for two decades and he won’t be fazed by the challenge ahead at Celtic. He knows the rules in this city. He’ll know second place is last in this environment and you’d expect him to thrive in it.

Despite some lukewarm responses, I wouldn’t be surprised if Schmeichel won over the supporters the same way Hart did and he becomes a player they eventually love. It’ll be interesting to see how Sinisalo fares in the long term.

He was highly-rated at the Aston Villa academy and he’s on the back of a strong season at Exeter City, albeit at a lower level. My old team-mate Gary Caldwell was his manager there and he’s raved about the youngster.

Dementia warning as ‘four habits linked to cognitive decline’ – with one being the most damaging

He’s only 22-year-old and already been capped by Finland. The five-year deal suggests a development plan but we might see him get a few games here and there in his first season. It’s now all about who will be in front of the keepers.

The return of the international players will give the side a more familiar look over in the United States but there is still work to be done. The decision to allow Oh Hyeon-gyu to leave suggests to me Celtic are confident they will get Adam Idah back – despite some of the noises from Norwich.

I’m sure Rodgers would have preferred to have him on board for the US but the good thing about Idah is they know all about him and he wouldn’t need time to settle in. Celtic can afford to wait until the deal is right and he’ll walk back into the set-up without too much fuss.

Rodgers will need another striker though as Kyogo is the only one they have got right now. Even if Idah arrives, it still leaves them at least one short with Rocco Vata also heading for the door.

The third forward role is a tough sell as game time won’t be a given. It could be back to the same formula as the keeper with either an experienced campaigner or a young prospect coming in. Regardless of the profile, Celtic do need another option up top. Rodgers has got the ball rolling in the transfer market but there is still a lot of work to be done.

Report: Kasper Schmeichel seals Celtic transfer as Leicester City legend reunited with Brendan Rodgers

The 37-year-old will succeed the recently retired Joe Hart between the sticks at Parkhead

Celtic have confirmed the signing of Kasper Schmeichel as the Denmark No1 takes over from the retired Joe Hart.

The Hoops have been in the market for a new shotstopper after legendary Hart decided to hang up his gloves. Now, Brendan Rodgers has finally got his wish after being reunited with his former Leicester City captain, Schmeichel. The Scottish champions had scoured the globe for a new first-choice keeper, with £8million-rated Sparta Prague star Peter Vindahl Jensen among their top targets.

But Rodgers has opted for a safe pair of hands in the vastly experienced Schmeichel, who played in all four Euro 2024 games for Denmark. The 105-times capped star was a free agent after spending a year in Belgium with Anderlecht. Schmeichel – who turns 38 in November – was part of Leicester City’s fairytale Premier League-winning story.

He also lifted the FA Cup and Community Shield during Rodgers’ reign in charge of the Foxes and previously credited the Northern Irishman among the most influential figures of his career. Speaking for the first time after being officially announced as a Celtic player, Schmeichel said: ““I am absolutely delighted to join Celtic and can’t wait to get started.

“Celtic is one of the world’s proper football clubs, a massive name and a place of real passion and success. Celtic is what football is all about. I know Brendan very well, too. He is a top manager and someone I can’t wait to work with again.

“I’m really looking forward to meeting up with the boys in America and start our work and then, of course, meet our fans who bring so much to Celtic. I will be doing all I can to keep Celtic on top and bring these brilliant supporters more and more success.”

Rodgers added: “I am really pleased to bring Kasper to Celtic. He is a real quality keeper and someone with the ability and personality to be great for us.

“He is a guy I trust and someone who knows how to win. He lives for football and he is coming to a club where he will feel the same passion that he has for the game. I know he will feel right at home at Celtic and we look forward to working with him as we all aim for more success.”

Schmeichel will work closely with fellow new Bhoy Viljami Sinisalo who has sealed a £1million switch from Aston Villa. The Finland international, 22, has been brought in as an understudy and will be mentored by Schmeichel with the view to eventually succeeding him between the sticks.

Celtic are poised to confirm the signing of veteran keeper Kasper Schmeichel in the next 24 hours.

The Denmark No1 is on his way to meet his new teammates in the USA today after passing his medical in Italy yesterdaySchmeichel, 37, will be reunited with Brendan Rodgers after the pair forged a close relationship at Leicester City. Schmeichel will mentor new back-up keeper Viljami Sinisalo, who sealed a £1million move from Aston Villa on Tuesday, and will fill the void vacated by the retired Joe Hart.

It’s understood the son of Manchester United legend Peter will put pen to paper on a one-year deal with the option of a further 12 months. The 105-times capped star – who played all four games at the Euros – is a free agent after spending a year with Belgian giants Anderlecht.

Hoops boss Rodgers hopes his new first-choice keeper will soon be joined by midfielder Paulo Bernardo. Celts are said to have agreed an initial £3.5million fee with Benfica, with negotiations ongoing over future add-ons and personal terms. The former Portugal Under-21 international broke cover on Instagram last night by sharing a snap of himself in pre-season training with the Lisbon club.

Meanwhile Norwich City boss Johannes Hoff Thorup is adamant that Adam Idah will be an “important player” for him this year after watching the striker close up for the first time. Idah, 23, was thrown in from the start in yesterday’s 3-0 friendly defeat to Club Brugge but lasted just 33 minutes in a planned early change as he built up his match fitness.

Adam Idah earns Norwich City start as Celtic sent clear message by Johannes Hoff Thorup

Celtic are keen to bring the Old Firm Scottish Cup-winning goal hero back to Parkhead after the Irishman starred on loan last season. However, the Canaries are playing hardball and have already thrown out an opening £4m bid for their homegrown talent. And Thorup has made it clear to the Scottish champions that he sees Idah as a big part of his plans after being asked directly about his future.

Meanwhile Scotland defender Scott McKenna remains a free agent after his contract at Nottingham Forest expired. The ex-Aberdeen stopper has been linked with both Celtic and Rangers and admitted last month that he’d be open to returning to the Premiership. McKenna spent last season on loan with Copenhagen and the Danish club have hinted that they could attempt to lure him back this summer.

Finally, Oh Hyeon-gyu has issued a classy farewell message to Celtic fans after rubber-stamping his move to Genk at the weekend. The South Korean striker moved on after just a year-and-a-half in Glasgow but made it clear he has no hard feelings.

James Tavernier Rangers twist, Ibrox target ‘not committed’, Celtic land major target – Scottish transfers

The latest transfer news across Scottish football this Thursday evening:

Trabzonspor linked with Tavernier

Rangers captain James Tavernier has emerged as a transfer target for Turkish side Trabzonspor. The Scottish Sun reports that the Super Lig outfit have made a formal offer for the 32-year-old, whose future has been under constant speculation during this transfer window, with a move to Saudi Arabia also mooted.

Trabzonspor are keen to strengthen their squad ahead of their domestic season and having already landed two former Rangers players in Borna Barisic and John Lundstram, they are now believed to be targeting the Ibrox skipper.

Rangers would listen to viable offer for Tavernier, with manager Philippe Clement stressing earlier this week that every one of his squad – with the exception of goalkeeper Jack Butland – is available for transfer if the price is right.

Conway trains with 21s

Scotland internationalist and reported Rangers target Tommy Conway has been banished to Bristol City’s Under-21 squad due to him not signing a new contract.

Conway is out of contract next summer but has not committed his future to the Robins, with the Ibrox club said to be monitoring the situation. The 21-year-old made his national team debut ahead of Euro 2024 and his club manager Liam Manning set the record straight on Conway’s situation.

“Tommy has had a contract offer on the table, which is an excellent offer,” said Manning. “This has been turned down, and not negotiated with the player expressing a desire to leave. The decision has been made for him to train with the U21s, with the focus wholly on players who are fully committed to what we are trying to achieve.”

Celtic sign Schmeichel

Celtic have confirmed the arrival of goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel on a one-year deal, with the Dane due to join up with his new team-mates in the US.

“I am absolutely delighted to join Celtic and can’t wait to get started,” said Schmeichel. “Celtic is one of the world’s proper football clubs, a massive name and a place of real passion and success. Celtic is what football is all about. I know Brendan very well, too. He is a top manager and someone I can’t wait to work with again.”

Earlier, Schmeichel has penned an emotional farewell to Anderlecht supporters. The Danish internationalist wrote on Instagram: “Grateful for my time at Anderlecht – a club with incredible passion and history. I’ll always remember the memories and friendships made here.”

Hibs land keeper

Hibs have signed former Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Jordan Smith after allowing Jojo Wollacott to return to England. The 29-year-old has joined Hibs on a two-year contract after a season at Stockport, where he played five times. Smith joined County from Forest where he made 54 appearances and also featured on loan spells with Mansfield and Barnsley.

Head coach David Gray said: “He is a player with good experience playing at a high level in the English Championship and has strong pedigree and high standards having spent over 20 years at Nottingham Forest. He will provide healthy competition with Joe (Bursik) and Max (Boruc) in the goalkeeping department and we are all excited to work with him.”

Wollacott earlier left to sign for Sky Bet League One side Crawley. The 27-year-old former Swindon and Charlton player made eight appearances after joining Hibs last summer.

Leeds United and Celtic now among ‘host of clubs’ interested in signing £15m attacker this summer

Leeds United could be about to enter a five-way transfer battle for a highly-sought after attacker this summer.

The Whites, Celtic, Ipswich Town, West Ham and Everton are all said to have been ‘credited with an interest’ in a deal for one of the most prolific players in England over the last 12 months.

Marquee additions to their front-line are likely to be hot on the agenda at Elland Road in the coming weeks as speculation continues to grow on their big-name stars.

Crysencio Summerville is wanted by Rennes, Chelsea and a host of other clubs, while his best friend Wilfried Gnonto is the subject of a 10 way transfer fight too.

Losing both in the same summer would be monumental blows for Leeds, given they scored a combined total of 27 goals in the Championship last season.

Leeds interested in deal for Sammie Szmodics

Summerville’s all-round game at this level will practically be irreplaceable for Leeds, and so they may have to bring in multiple attackers to deal with the loss of his skillset.

Not only will his pace and dribbling need replacing, but more importantly his goals, given that he netted 19 across the 2023/24 campaign, winning the Championship POTS.

But one player who could fill the void left by his goals is Blackburn Rovers star Sammie Szmodics, who was just one of just two players to score more than him last season, with 27.

Peterborough United owner Darragh MacAnthony has urged Leeds to get a deal done for Szmodics, and according to Planet Sport, they are interested.

As mentioned, it is said Leeds will battle Celtic, West Ham, Ipswich and Everton for the 28-year-old, who is valued at £15 million by Blackburn, as per the Sun.

Any deal, however, is likely to rest on the outcome of contract talks with Blackburn, and if he does become available, Leeds will have to beat off plenty of top-flight interest.

Szmodics makes Summerville claim amid Leeds interest

There wasn’t anyone better than Summerville in the Championship last season, and that is something Szmodics acknowledges.

On YouTuber Still Ryan’s channel in a clip posted on X, Szmodics was asked to punch – with a boxing glove – the presenter when he heard the name of a better player, of which Joel Piroe, Summerville, Adam Armstrong and more were among them.

While Szmodics believes he is a better player than Piroe, he certainly had a much different response when it came to Summerville.

He said: “Great player. 10 times better than me.”

Atalanta Set to ‘Return’ in Bid for Celtic’s Matt O’Riley

Atalanta are reportedly set to make a return bid for Celtic’s Matt O’Riley in the coming weeks in a move that would put the Hoops under transfer pressure – with their asking price being revealed by Italian media.

Celtic star O’Riley all but single-handedly dragged them to the Scottish Premiership title last season with 18 goals and 13 assists in the top-flight alone last season, beating rivals Rangers to the title after a swashbuckling end to the campaign. That has seen interest arise from some of Europe’s top clubs – and now Serie A club Atalanta could make another move for the 23-year-old after his exceptional season in a green and white shirt.

Atalanta Set to Make Return Bid for O’Riley

The Bergamo outfit are heavily in the market for O’Riley

The report states that Atalanta have not given up on a move for O’Riley, and will continue to ‘close the gap’ with the Hoops in a bid to land their man. The Europa League winners are looking for a midfielder to come into their ranks amid their qualification for Champions League football, and O’Riley has been earmarked as a top target with Teun Koopmeiners potentially on his way to Juventus.

Corriere della Serra further state that Atalanta are ‘not giving up’ their efforts to sign Celtic’s star man, and will relaunch their efforts to sign him after a first bid was turned down for the Danish international earlier this month.

Their initial offer of €18million (£15.1m) with add-ons fell short of Celtic’s reported €30million (£25.2m) asking price – despite other reports claiming they want £50million for the star – and they will up the ante with a revised bid in the near future to avoid losing out to the Hoops on his signing.

The report states that the gap between the initial bid and Celtic’s valuation is not deemed to be insurmountable, and a deal appears close – with an agreement somewhere in the middle of the two figures being the realistic target for the Bergamo-based side.

O’Riley Sale Could Happen With Time to Prepare

A January bid was not great timing for the Hoops to sell

O’Riley’s future has been touted to be away from Celtic for quite some time, but only in recent weeks and with a whole six-week period to make transfers in the off-season has it seemed a genuine possibility.

GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: O’Riley’s 18 goals in the Scottish Premiership this season count for two-thirds of his entire Celtic strikes.

Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan both made their interest in the midfielder known in the winter transfer window, and whilst the Spanish outfit were rebuffed with a bid, that was on transfer deadline day in January. With Celtic in dire need of the Dane to propel them to a Scottish Premiership title, he did exactly that with a spate of strong performances towards the end of the season and their third top-flight trophy in a row was certainly worth the rejected bid.

With more time to sort a deal given that players have only just returned to pre-season, it does seem as though Atalanta will give Celtic something to think about in the upcoming days and weeks – but only a huge bid will tempt the club to sell given that they still have the majority of the Jota money to spend following his sale to Al-Ittihad last summer.

Kasper Schmeichel in Celtic transfer ‘dream come true’ admission as new Hoops keeper reacts to move

Schmeichel was unveiled as a Celtic player this evening

Kasper Schmeichel reacted to his Celtic transfer

Kasper Schmeichel insists he is realising a dream by signing for Celtic after the deal was finally confirmed.

The Denmark No1 has penned a one-year deal at Parkhead, with the option of extending it by another after his debut campaign. It has been in the works over the past week or so and the 37-year-old completed a medical yesterday before jetting out to the USA to meet his new teammates.

Official confirmation came from the Hoops’ social media this evening and the man himself is delighted. The Leicester City Premier League and FA Cup winner worked with Brendan Rodgers at the Foxes and that has been one major factor in his decision to come to Scotland, where he previously played on loan for Falkirk.

But the club itself was also a massive sell. Schmeichel insists Celts are a “proper club” and he’s ready to “follow in the footsteps of giants.”

Responding to the confirmation, he tweeted: “A dream come true to sign for a club with such a rich legacy as @celticfc. Excited to be part of this historic club and follow in the footsteps of giants. A new journey starts, can’t wait to get to work.”

Schmeichel also told the club website: “I am absolutely delighted to join Celtic and can’t wait to get started. Celtic is one of the world’s proper football clubs, a massive name and a place of real passion and success.

Celtic announce signing of Kasper Schmeichel on one-year deal…

The Danish goalkeeper has joined the Scottish champions as Joe Hart’s replacement.

Deal: Kasper Schmeichel has agreed to join Celtic.

Celtic have announced the signing of goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel.

The Dane has signed a one-year deal with the Parkhead club.

Schmeichel is travelling to the USA to join up with his new teammates as they prepare for the new season, and will be reunited with Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers, who he played under for three years at Leicester City.

The 37-year-old is an experienced replacement for Joe Hart, who retired at the end of last season. Schmeichel joins the club just days after another goalkeeper was signed, with 22-year-old Finland international goalkeeper Viljami Sinisalo joining on a five-year contract from Aston Villa.

“I am absolutely delighted to join Celtic and can’t wait to get started,” Schmeichel said.

“Celtic is one of the world’s proper football clubs, a massive name and a place of real passion and success. Celtic is what football is all about.

“I know Brendan very well, too. He is a top manager and someone I can’t wait to work with again.

“I’m really looking forward to meeting up with the boys in America and start our work and then, of course, meet our fans who bring so much to Celtic.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers added: “I am really pleased to bring Kasper to Celtic. He is a real quality keeper and someone with the ability and personality to be great for us.

“He is a guy I trust and someone who knows how to win. He lives for football and he is coming to a club where he will feel the same passion that he has for the game.

“I know he will feel right at home at Celtic and we look forward to working with him as we all aim for more success.”

The son of former Manchester United star Peter Schmeichel, Kasper began his career with Manchester City. His three years as a senior player there were marked by a series of loan spells, including a six-month spell at Falkirk in 2007.

Schmeichel then had stints at Notts County and Leeds United before moving to Leicester City in 2011.

The goalkeeper spent 11 years at Leicester, playing more than 400 games, winning the Premier League and playing in the Champions League.

After leaving the English side two years ago, he spent a season at Nice and then moved to Anderlecht, where he played last season before becoming a free agent at the end of his one-year contract.

Schmeichel has 105 caps for Denmark and has played at both the World Cup and the European Championships.

Celtic On Brink Of Further Deal As Medical Passed In Italy

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is on the brink of making another signing to follow up the capture of Viljami Sinisalo from Aston Villa.

Sinisalo has joined the Bhoys and is expected to provide cover to experienced goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel, who is now also close to signing for the club.

The Premier League-winning goalkeeper is on the cusp of joining the Scottish champions on a free transfer this summer.

The 37-year-old has been in talks with Celtic over joining the club and the terms for his move have been finalised.

Now, according to the Danish daily Tipsbladet, Schmeichel has passed his medical with Celtic ahead of the move.

He was put through his paces by a Celtic medical team earlier today after they flew over to Italy to complete the process.

The Dane has already accepted a one-year contract with an option of another year from the Scottish champions.

He is now one signature away from officially becoming a Celtic player ahead of the new season.

Schmeichel will fly out to the United States and meet his new team-mates on their pre-season tour on Thursday.
And he will quickly look to show what he can do in the famous Hoops.

Celtic Welcomes Viljami Sinisalo in Strategic Move

Celtic has marked a significant addition to their squad with the acquisition of Viljami Sinisalo, the young Finnish goalkeeper from Aston Villa. The club confirmed that Sinisalo has penned a five-year contract, strengthening their roster ahead of their U.S. pre-season tour.

The news of Sinisalo joining Celtic, dressed sharply in the club’s tracksuit at Glasgow Airport, indicates the club’s serious intent. Their preparation for an impending U.S. tour highlights the strategic planning behind their latest signings. Football Insider noted that Sinisalo’s integration into the team follows an agreement with another seasoned goalkeeper, Kasper Schmeichel, signifying a robust reconfiguration of Celtic’s goalkeeping resources.

Sinisalo’s previous season on loan at Exeter City saw him achieving 13 clean sheets in 45 League One appearances—an impressive feat that Celtic hopes will translate well into their setup. His performance solidifies his reputation as a capable goalkeeper ready for bigger challenges.

Mentorship and Competition: Schmeichel’s Role

The experienced Schmeichel is not only set to lead as the primary goalkeeper but will also serve as a mentor to Sinisalo. This dual role is vital for Celtic, especially considering the potential for Sinisalo to evolve into the first-choice goalkeeper in the future. The dynamic between the veteran and the newcomer will be crucial for Sinisalo’s development and adaptation to the demands of Scottish Premiership football.

Strategic Goalkeeping Dynamics at Celtic

The addition of Sinisalo is part of Celtic’s broader strategy to fortify their goalkeeping position following the retirement of Joe Hart, who left a remarkable legacy of 64 clean sheets in 153 appearances. The pressure to perform and maintain a high standard of goalkeeping is immense, and the club now boasts a promising duo to rise to the occasion.

The expectations at Celtic Park are high, and both Schmeichel and Sinisalo will be under scrutiny from the get-go. Their performances will be pivotal in Celtic’s quest to defend their Scottish Premiership title and make an impact in European competitions.

Future Outlook: Sinisalo’s Potential Impact

As Celtic looks forward, the potential for Viljami Sinisalo to ascend as the first-choice goalkeeper is a narrative full of anticipation and possibility. His growth under Schmeichel’s tutelage and his ability to handle the pressures of top-flight football will be key to his success at Celtic.

Celtic’s strategic acquisitions, exemplified by the signing of Sinisalo, underline their intent to remain at the forefront of Scottish football. By investing in young talents like Sinisalo, and blending their skills with the experience of players like Schmeichel, Celtic is shaping a formidable team ready to tackle future challenges.

This proactive approach not only secures Celtic’s immediate needs but also strengthens their long-term prospects, ensuring the club remains competitive on all fronts. With the new season on the horizon, all eyes will be on how these strategic decisions unfold on the pitch.

In summary, Celtic’s acquisition of Viljami Sinisalo is a well-thought-out move, reflecting the club’s ambition and careful planning. It’s a testament to their commitment to excellence and a clear signal of their determination to continue their domestic dominance and make strides in European football.

Celtic could perfectly replace Oh by signing £8.5m star

Celtic enjoyed a relatively decent season last time out as Brendan Rodgers lifted two domestic trophies in his first year back in the dugout at Parkhead.

The Northern Irish boss came in to replace Ange Postecoglou, who departed for Tottenham Hotspur and the Premier League, last summer and won the Scottish Premiership title and the SFA Cup.

However, the Hoops were knocked out of the Champions League at the group stage, finishing bottom of their group, and they could be set to aim for more success in Europe to go alongside domestic success next term.

Changes to the squad could help the Scottish giants to push on in the continent and the forward department has already seen some alterations this summer.

Adam Idah spent the second half of last season on loan from Norwich City and the Hoops are reportedly continuing talks to sign him on a permanent deal, having already had an offer of £4m plus add-ons turned down.

The Scottish Premiership champions have also allowed one of their senior strikers from last season to move on this month as Hyeon-gyu Oh was sold to Genk.

Celtic’s Hyeon-gyu Oh masterclass

The Belgian outfit have reportedly paid a fee of £4.5m to sign the South Korea international to bolster their forward line ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

That is £2m more than the £2.5m the Bhoys reportedly paid Suwon Bluewings to bring him to Glasgow in the January transfer window at the start of last year.

Celtic, therefore, played a masterclass with the 23-year-old attacker as they almost doubled their money on him, despite his distinct lack of quality on the pitch during his 18-month spell at Paradise.

Firstly, his finishing during the 2023/24 Premiership campaign left a bit to be desired as he plundered five goals from 6.35 xG, an underperformance of 1.35.

As you can see in the table above, only four Celtic players underperformed their expected tally by more than the South Korean dud, who was behind Kyogo Furuhashi and Idah in the pecking order in his final few months at the club.

The biggest issue for Oh was that he did not offer much outside of scoring goals and that meant that his wasteful finishing made him a liability for the side.

In the Premiership last season, the right-footed marksman failed to create a single ‘big chance’, did not register any assists, and only made 0.3 key passes per game across 20 appearances, which shows that he offered very little, if anything at all, as a creative threat.

Oh also lost 58% of his ground duels and 60% of his battles in the air in those 20 league outings, which shows that opposition defenders got the better of him in physical contests more often than not.

Taking these statistics into account, Celtic played a blinder to make a £2m profit on him as his performances on the pitch did not suggest that he was worth more than they paid for him, as the forward struggled physically and technically.

Rodgers could, now, perfectly replace the £4.5m sale by dipping into the market to sign one of the club’s reported targets before the end of the summer transfer window.

Celtic’s interest in Danish sensation

The Scottish giants reportedly have a long-standing interest in Brondby centre-forward Mathias Kvistgaarden, and they already know how much he would cost.

Back in June, Austrian outlet VICTAURI, as relayed by the Daily Record, claimed that the Hoops target had a price tag of €10m (£8.4m) this summer.

The report stated that RB Salzburg are also eyeing up a possible move for the Danish sensation and that they had already sent scouts to watch him in action.

However, the Bundesliga side were not willing to pay the £8.5m transfer fee required for him at the time, which meant that they did not press ahead with a deal for his services.

This means that the door could still be open for the Hoops to swoop in to bring him to Parkhead as the dream replacement for Oh in Glasgow next season.

Why Mathias Kvistgaarden would perfectly replace Oh

Being a back-up striker option, at least initially, is a hard sell for players and a difficult position for Celtic to fill, particularly if they also sign Idah from Norwich to join Kyogo in the striker ranks at Parkhead.

However, it could be sold to Kvistgaarden as an opportunity for him to prove himself and potentially earn a move to a major league in Europe, whilst winning trophies and playing European football.

At the age of 22, he is younger than Oh and seven years younger than Kyogo, which means that the talented gem could come in as the long-term heir to the Japan international.

This suggests that Kvistgaarden would be perfect for the role that the South Korean dud vacated as a young back-up striker with the potential to emerge as a key figure for Rodgers in the future.

His statistics for Brondby in the Danish Superliga also suggest that he could come in as a big upgrade on Oh, in terms of what he offers on and off the ball, as he enjoyed what talent scout Jacek Kulig described as a “superb season”.

As you can see in the table above, the 22-year-old sensation offered more to his team as both a scorer and a creator of goals, whilst also winning a higher percentage of his duels.

This suggests that Kvistgaarden, who racked up 31 goals and 11 assists in 45 games for Brondby’s U19s, could provide a greater threat at the top end of the pitch for Celtic, in comparison to Oh.

Therefore, the Danish marksman could perfectly replace the new Genk signing due to his age profile, potential, and quality that he could immediately bring to the team.

Kasper Schmeichel passes Celtic medical in Italy, signing formalities next then flight to USA

Kasper Schmeichel has passed his medical in Italy and will now sign the agreement that will make him Celtic’s first choice goalkeeper, replacing Joe Hart.

The Denmark international will now complete the paperwork before heading to Washington DC to join his new Celtic teammates.  That’s according to Danish outlet Tipsbladet and there report is translated (very roughly) below…

Kasper Schmeichel now just needs to sign his contract before he is the new first team keeper at Scottish giants Celtic….

Kasper Schmeichel is now just one signing away from being the new first keeper at the Scottish big club Celtic.

Tipsbladet can reveal that the Danish national team star has passed his medical check-up, and thus there is only ink left on the contract before he can be presented as the new goalkeeper for Brendan Rodgers’ troops.

As Tipsbladet could reveal on Monday, the mandatory medical check-up was to take place in Italy, and it has gone completely according to plan, so on Thursday he will meet his new team-mates in the USA, where Celtic is at a training camp.

Kasper Schmeichel is transfer-free after his farewell to Anderlecht, and it has always been the idea that he should have his future in place after the EC.

On Friday evening, the Dane accepted an offer for a one-year deal at Celtic, and an option for a further season has also been agreed.

As boss, he thus gets Brendan Rodgers, whom he managed to play under for more than three years, when they were both in the Premier League club Leicester.

In a day’s time, there will be a reunion.

Thus, the safe number 1 in Kasper Hjulmand’s national team can be happy that he will once again try his hand at the Champions League.

Looks like Brendan has got his man!

Celtic transfer target labelled a Rangers box ticker as one factor guaranteed if he picks Ibrox over Parkhead

Celtic have also been linked with a move for the star Rangers like.

A former Rangers star reckons Tommy Conway is the type of player that Ibrox chiefs are hunting – and he’d be an excellent addition.

It’s been claimed that both the Light Blues and Premiership champions Celtic are both interested in the forward who went to Euro 2024 with Scotland this summer. A pre-contract swoop by both has been mooted in some quarters, as that would require a fee as low as £300k in a cross-border compensation fee.

Derek Ferguson reckons Philippe Clement could be a boss who could get even more out of the potential that Conway has already displayed. Amid the interest from Rangers and Celtic, he’s netted 25 goals and six assists in 92 matches overall, with 12 of those strikes coming last term.

Amid swoops for younger-profile players like Jefte, Oscar Cortes, Clinton Nsiala, Connor Barron and Hamza Igamane, the ex-midfielder reckons it’s a deal that possibly works out well for Rangers as the gaffer would be nailed on to make him better. Ferguson told Ibrox News: “Yeah, he’s a good player isn’t he the boy?

“He’s 21, I don’t know exactly what the fee would be, but he ticks all the boxes in terms of what Rangers [are looking for], how their recruitment is going. Bring them in, younger guys, make them better, then can we sell them on?

“Listen, he’s a talented boy in the Scotland Under-21s and you don’t make the Euros if you’re not a good player so what you can see is there’s a lot to work with there and a lot to improve. I think under our current manager he would do that.”

Martin Dubravka transfer twist as double swoop changes Newcastle United situation

Newcastle United star Martin Dubravka is not short of suitors as his Magpies future hangs in the balance

ODYSSEAS VLACHODIMOS ‘ON PAPER’ LOOKS A GREAT GOALKEEPER

Martin Dubravka’s Newcastle United future remains in doubt as one possible suitor, Scottish champions Celtic, focus their transfer attention elsewhere.

Brendan Rodgers’ side have been one of many contenders to win the race for the Slovakian’s signature as Eddie Howe embarks on a revamp of his goalkeeping department on Tyneside. Other suitors linked with Dubravka include Southampton, clubs in Saudi Arabia’s top flight and Bundesliga sides.

Celtic, however, have this week secured the signing of Aston Villa goalkeeper Viljami Sinisalo, landing the 22-year-old on a five-year deal. Now, attention appears to have turned to signing former Leicester City stopper Kasper Schmeichel.

Rodgers worked with the 37-year-old at the King Power Stadium and a reunion is on the cards after he left Anderlecht this summer. Schmeichel is expected to undergo a medical in Italy before linking up with Celtic on their pre-season tour of the United States.

A double signing in between the sticks will likely leave no room for Dubravka‘s arrival, paving the way for another side to swoop in and seal a deal for the former Manchester United loanee. The goalkeeper is currently on holiday after his Euro 2024 campaign with Slovakia and wants to speak with Eddie Howe before making a decision on his future.

“I have no idea [if I will stay at Newcastle]. I have seen they are talking with other goalkeepers,” Dubravka told the Daily Mail after exiting the competition. “I need to speak with the manager first. What is the plan for me? What is my future? I don’t know if they want me to stay or not. It is difficult for me, because I have been focussed on my job with the national team.”

Newcastle have already bolstered their goalkeeping ranks this summer with Odysseas Vlachodimos and John Ruddy arriving to offer support to Nick Pope. Mark Gillespie also penned a new contract earlier this summer.

Dubravka is subsequently expected to make way, with his agent admitting earlier this year that a new challenge may be sought after Euro 2024.

“Celtic will want to build on the success of the last three seasons and make sure Rangers don’t get anywhere near another title for years to come.
