Celtic will demand a record Scottish transfer fee for £10m rated player as Newcastle enter the race
There’s hardly a week goes by without a transfer rumour surfacing about one of Celtic’s players or that the Hoops are scouting or showing interest in other team’s players.
All summer the fans had to endure rumours about Kyogo Furuhashi and Reo Hatate being a target for Tottenham Hotspur after Ange Postecoglou joined them in June.
They have also had to put up with continued reports surrounding Matt O’Riley and Leeds United’s ridiculous bid of £10m on transfer deadline day and how other teams are now showing interest.
Considering a football study recently valued O’Riley at over £10m before the Champions League campaign kicked off, clubs will need to at least double that if Celtic were to entertain bids.
And that is exactly what Celtic will ask Newcastle to do if they decide to make an approach for the Danish international midfielder.
A report from TeamTalk claims, “Newcastle United have scouted the 23-year-old on multiple occasions, including whilst he was playing senior international football for his country, Denmark.”
“Any deal will be a Scottish transfer record, with the Hoops demanding over £25million for the star, which would break the records set by their previous sales of Jota to Al-Ittihad and Kieran Tierney to Arsenal.”
MORE CELTIC STORIES
Personally, I think another couple of million needs to be added to that fee because O’Riley has proven time and again this season that he has what it takes to mix it with Europe’s big guns.
The Danish international was named the man of the match against Atletico and was also outstanding in the 2-1 win over Feyenoord on Wednesday night.
With O’Riley signing a new deal until 2028 this summer, Celtic are well in control should any potential suitors come calling but I genuinely can’t see him leaving Paradise any time soon.
