Celtic are said to be demanding a big fee for star midfielder Matt O’Riley ahead of the January transfer window. Interest is building in the Premier League, with reports of interest from West Ham and many others.

According to Football Insider, Celtic are keen to keep O’Riley until at least the end of the season, and well aware of the midfielder’s talent, they are reportedly demanding upwards of £25million in January. The Bhoys will be hoping that price tag will be enough to keep interested teams at bay for now.

Van Veen talks

Rangers are said to be interested in a deal to sign Groningen star Kevin van Veen this winter, and Football Scotland claim talks are already underway over a possible deal. Groningen are currently on winter break, but sporting director Wouter Gudde has recently admitted that a deal could be done in January.

He said: “I talk to Kevin on the phone almost every day and if there is interest because he is not playing, we will listen. If another club makes a concrete offer and the solution is good, we will cooperate with his departure. In principle, of course, he is welcome to return to the club when we return to training on January 3 too.”

The fist-team coach at Parkhead has interest in his services and he looks likely to move on for pastures new.

CELTIC – LATEST NEWS FROM PARKHEAD

Harry Kewell’s Celtic exit is edging closer as per claims coming out of Australia.

The Parkhead coach joined the Premiership champions during Ange Postecoglou’s reign, and has stuck around for the Brendan Rodgers era 2.0. But Far-East reports have suggested Yokohama F. Marinos want him to replace fellow Aussie Kevin Muscat as manager after the former Rangers defender’s exit, and Rodgers has confirmed there is an interest in Kewell’s services.

It has been suggested by A-League producer Sacha Pisani that a deal to take Kewell from the Celtic backroom to leading man in the J League is “done”, with an assistant already picked. John Hutchinson – a fellow Australian who has been assistant manager at city rivals Yokohama FC, will return to Marinos as assistant. He was part of the club’s coaching staff coaching staff until Muscat arrived midway through 2021 and changes were made prior to 2022. Elsewhere, Midfielder Jung Ho-Yeon has again been linked with the Hoops.

Gwangju FC boss Lee Jung-Hyo was asked about interest from Celtic in the South Korean midfielder, who was first rumoured to have interest from Glasgow in October. Yang Hyun-jun, Kwon and Oh are all recent examples of Korean shopping done by the champions recently but there’s a warning for Jung.

His gaffer told Donga: “Jung Ho-Yeon is currently in talks to advance to Europe from Gwangju, but still have a long way to go. If you go to Europe now, you are bound to end up in a clumsy situation. It is wise to prepare well like Cho Gue-sung (who signed for Midtjylland last summer) and choose the team and league well.”

Mathias Kvistgaarden is a striker target Celtic are claimed to have in their sights and he is beginning to show his top tier potential, according to Danish reports. 3point.DK’s power rankings metric have him in the top tier of all SuperLig players, with “layer one” defined as “They are important pieces for the team, and have delivered at a consistently high level.”

On the man himself, it reads: “Has risen from roughly making many headless finishes to shooting wisely and seasoning it with nice assist play for his teammates.”

Bojan Miovski is claimed to be on the Celtic agenda too after showing his striker prowess at Aberdeen. But they aren’t the only ones after him, as Southampton tale the North Macedonian international after another long-term injury to Ross Stewart.

Celtic and Rangers urged to sign SPFL star

Celtic and Rangers should both be looking to sign Dundee left-back Owen Beck. That is according to pundit Kenny Miller, who has been hugely impressed with the on-loan Liverpool youngster this season. The Wales Under-21 international has made 19 appearances for the Dark Blues, scoring two goals, and is due to return to Anfield in the summer. Miller, the former Celtic and Rangers striker, said: “In the games that I’ve seen [Beck] this year, he’s been absolutely outstanding. This goes again to show the loans and opportunities that can be presented, from the big clubs in England up to Scotland to play. I would expect, for me, maybe the big two up here [Rangers and Celtic] to be having a look at this player. Both of them could do with a player in that area of the pitch and he’s been outstanding.”

There are mixed reports over the prospect of Rangers making a move for Kevin van Veen in the January transfer window. The former Motherwell striker has failed to settle at new club Groningen since making a £500,000 move from Fir Park in the summer and is now said to be seeking a return to Scotland where his partner and new-born child are based. Dutch newspaper Dagblad van het Noorden has claimed that Rangers have made contact with the player’s agent over the possibility of a move to Ibrox, but reports in the Scottish press suggest the rumour is wide of the mark. Rangers are expected to strengthen the striking department in January and have been linked with a move for Hearts captain Lawrence Shankland (see below). Van Veen, who is 32, netted 29 goals in a record-breaking campaign for Motherwell last season but has scored just five times in the Dutch second tier this term.

English suitors to rival Celtic for Miovski

Celtic have been linked with Aberdeen striker Bojan Miovski, but could face competition from English Championsip side Southampton. According to reports, the Premier League promotion hopefuls are weighing up a January move for the North Macedonia international, who has been a huge hit at Pittodrie since joining from MTK Budapest in the summer of 2022. Miovski has scored 32 goals in 69 appearances for the Dons, including four in this season’s European campaign. The 24-year-old is well known to Saints’ head of recruitment Darren Mowbray – he was the man who identified him for Aberdeen while in a similar role at Pittodrie prior to his move to St Mary’s earlier this year. Southampton are said to be keen to sign a frontman during the January window after Scotland international Ross Stewart was ruled out for the rest of the season.

Shankland addresses Rangers talk

Lawrence Shankland has refused to give any assurances that he will still be a Hearts player at the end of the January transfer window as he addressed talk of a possible move to Rangers. The Ibrox club have been linked with a move for the in-form striker who has netted 11 goals in his last 10 games in a 16-goal campaign thus far. Addressing the rumours, Shankland said: “Have you got a crystal ball I can look into? Listen, I’ve got a year and a half on my contract, I’m enjoying my football and I’m scoring goals. Speculation follows you when you’re doing well. I don’t see it as anything more than that and I won’t until the future. When you’re a goalscorer teams look at you like that but it’s a sign that I’m doing well and I take it as a compliment and keep trying to do my job well and score goals.”
