Chelsea’s probable lineup vs. Everton while Pochettino mulls over Thiago Silva’s choice
Chelsea go to Goodison Park to face Everton this afternoon, and the Blues will be keen for three points against the Toffees. The Blues have struggled to thread together results recently, losing to Newcastle and Manchester United on their last two away trips.
Mauricio Pochettino will be able to welcome back Conor Gallagher, who was sent off against Brighton seven days ago and missed the trip to Old Trafford. His presence could be crucial as Chelsea struggled in the center of the field against their Premier League rivals.
The Blues’ head coach stated that his players lacked energy to compete against United on Wednesday, and he stated in his Friday press conference that his team will need to be fresh against Everton. He does not expect Chelsea’s load concerns to be resolved instantly, but he does want his players to focus on performance.
Mauricio Pochettino said: “Now we have another game away, we need to be focused on trying to perform and if someone is tired they are not going to play we need to put a fresh team to perform and match their energy.”
The 51-year-old Chelsea manager is well aware of the challenge that Everton will present. Following their financial fair play sentence, the Merseyside team has been energized.
“I know Sean Dyche very well and admire what he achieved with Burnley,” he stated. They have the impression that they have been treated unfairly, and when you have this impression, you feel liberated and have nothing to lose. They also have good players, and Sean is doing an excellent job. It’ll be difficult after last night. They won big against Newcastle, and they’ll be fired up to meet us. Every game in the Premier League is challenging, and we need to be better prepared to compete.”
