Manchester United have received a huge boost ahead of their trip to Everton on Sunday, with Luke Shaw returning to training after a three-month absence.

The England international left-back has not played since United’s second match of the season, a 2-0 loss at Tottenham Hotspur in August, due to a “muscle issue,” according to the club.

A significant injury crisis at the club hasn’t helped United’s terrible start to the season under Erik ten Hag. United have also been missing Shaw’s backup, Tyrell Malacia, since pre-season, forcing the club to buy Sergio Reguilon on loan from Tottenham. While Shaw has been unavailable, Sofyan Amrabat, Diogo Dalot, and Victor Lindelof have all had to fill in at left back.

Ten Hag’s team have lost five of their first 12 Premier League games and are on the verge of being eliminated from the Champions League at the group stage, while Shaw’s comeback comes ahead of a crucial run of fixtures.

After visiting Goodison Park on Sunday, United head to Galatasaray in the Champions League, where defeat would eliminate them from the group stages.

Christian Eriksen and top scorer Rasmus Hojlund, meanwhile, have been forced to withdraw from Denmark’s squad ahead of the international break due to injuries.

Casemiro, Lisandro Martinez, and Jonny Evans are also out injured, although United are confident that goalkeeper Andre Onana will be able to play against Everton after suffering an injury while playing for Cameroon in a World Cup qualifier last week.
