Alan Shearer praises ‘continuous danger’ Dwight McNeil after Everton’s 2-0 win against Chelsea.
Alan Shearer has named Everton midfielder Dwight McNeil to his Premier League Team of the Week following his performance against Chelsea.
The award comes after the winger assisted the Toffees’ 2-0 victory over the Blues at Goodison Park on Sunday (10 December).
The home side won the Premier League thanks to goals from Abdoulaye Doucoure and Lewis Dobbin in the second half.
“Although he didn’t score himself, he was a constant threat in dangerous pockets,” Shearer told the Premier League’s official website on December 11th. “Sean Dyche is again getting the best out of him.”
Form is stunning.
McNeil and Everton are both in excellent form, with the Toffees refusing to allow their recent 10-point deduction affect them.
Dyche’s team did lose their first encounter following the sanction, falling 3-0 at home to Manchester United.
They have since come together to deliver some fantastic results, with Everton being one of the most in-form teams in the Premier League, having won three games in a row.
The streak began with a 1-0 win away to Nottingham Forest, followed by 3-0 and 2-0 home victories over Newcastle United and Chelsea, respectively.
Following their suspension, the Merseyside outfit dropped from 14th to 19th in the rankings, but they presently sit in 17th place and don’t appear to be slowing down anytime soon.
Dyche and his team face a difficult trip to Burnley next, with the boss making an emotional return to Turf Moor on Saturday (16 December).
In other Everton news, Dyche has elevated one Toffees star to a top-four Premier League statistic.
