Levy on the FFP

Daniel Levy has already stated his position on FFP rules and regulations to Tottenham after it was revealed on Friday that Everton had been docked 10 points for violating Premier League rules. With Manchester City now in the spotlight due to 115 charges hanging over their heads, Tottenham’s absence of a problem in this area is a plus.

Despite coming under fire as chairman for his lack of investment, Levy has guided Spurs through problems with remarkable ease, never going close to crossing the financial line, which is unusual in today’s game. Speaking on the guidelines earlier this year, he admitted that things had changed.

“The landscape of the Premier League has changed significantly in the last decade,” he stated at the time. “It’s understandable that some fans want more money, much of which is unsustainable for many clubs.”

“We are competing in a league in which we have seen increased sovereign wealth ownership and consortia finance; and in a league where the spending power is now vested in the hands of a few who dominate and have the ability to distort the market.”

Savings for Richarlison

The Premier League investigation claims that in Everton’s attempt to avoid penalties for their financial troubles, they claimed to have sold Richarlison for less than customary, which helps to explain their precarious condition.

“Everton considered that the sale on 30 June 2022 of Mr Richarlison to Tottenham Hotspur FC for the sum of £60million, rather than the sum of £80million that it had budgeted to receive, to be directly attributable to its PSR calculation difficulties,” states the summary of the study.

Richarlison has struggled since moving to London, scoring only one league goal in his debut season and now out with a pelvic ailment after undergoing surgery. He was a sought-after player last summer, with Chelsea also interested in signing him.

Sarr receives points

Pape Matar Sarr earned one for himself just two days after Son Heung-min scored a fantastic goal for South Korea against Singapore in a 5-0 win, a game in which he appeared to be fighting with injury after being on the receiving end of a terrible challenge.

Senegal defeated South Sudan 4-0 on Saturday, with the 21-year-old scoring his first goal for his country inside the first minute. Sarr grabbed hold of the ball on the edge of the box 40 seconds in, side-stepping past two players and generating space for a right-footed shot. His effort eluded a swarm of bodies and set his team up for a comfortable victory.
