Everton director of football Kevin Thelwell commented on the club’s mood this week.

The Toffees have been docked ten points in the Premier League as a result of financial mismanagement.

While the club admits to financial problems, they are in the process of gaining new ownership and believe the ten-point deduction is excessive.

“Given the events of the last week, I felt it was important I share with you the thoughts of myself, Sean, and all the staff and players here at Finch Farm as we prepare for the return to Premier League action this weekend,” Thelwell said on Everton’s website.

“[Interim chief] Colin’s video message last Friday echoed my sentiments as well as the sentiments of everyone here at Finch Farm.” We are surprised by the Premier League’s commission’s decision, which we believe is completely disproportionate and unjust.

“We cannot comment further on the commission’s findings until the appeal process is completed – and the players and manager cannot be drawn on any specifics relating to the commission’s ruling in the media duties they will be performing in the coming days and weeks.”

“However, the clear and tangible impact on our league position as a result of that ruling is visible in the Premier League table.” We return to action five places lower than where we left off after a hard-fought victory over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

“The three points from that victory, as well as seven other hard-earned points earned this season, may no longer be accounted for in the table.” But what remains is the unity, drive, and determination that helped achieve those points on the field of play – now fueled by what we believe is an entirely unjust ruling.”
