FORMER EVERTON DEFENDER RECEIVES LEAGUE MEDAL

Former Everton defender Frank D’Arcy has finally received his League Championship medal from 1969/70.

D’Arcy made five appearances for the Blues during their title-winning season, which meant he didn’t qualify for a medal until recently.

However, the Football League recently changed the eligibility requirements, and Everton acted fast to order and pay for gongs for D’Arcy, Roger Kenyon (also 69/70), Paul Wilkinson (84/85), and Warren Aspinall (86/87).

D’Arcy is the final of the four to take his medal, which was presented to him at home by 1986/87 champion Ian Snodin.

“I was delighted when the Club told me I was due a medal,” D’Arcy stated. “It’s taken a long time, but I finally have it, and it means everything to me.” They were fantastic days, and I am very delighted to have been a member of an Everton squad that won the Premier League.”

D’Arcy made 18 senior games for Everton after winning the FA Youth Cup with the club in 1964/65 alongside John Hurst and Jimmy Husband.

When Harry Catterick fielded a much-changed team a week before an FA Cup semi-final against Leeds United at Elland Road in 1966, he made his senior team debut. Derek Smith and Gerry Humphreys also took the stage on that day.

D’Arcy left Everton for a brief time with Tranmere Rovers before joining Kirkby Town in non-league football.
