According to Paul Brown, a few clubs are trying to see if they can take advantage of Everton’s financial predicament to recruit defender Jarrad Branthwaite in a “bargain” deal.

Speaking to GiveMeSport on Wednesday (13 December), the former Daily Star journalist stated that the Toffees’ continued survival on loans granted by 777 Partners is a “unsustainable” condition.

He believes the Blues will do everything possible to keep the England U-21 international, but that there is a “small window of opportunity” for other clubs to sign him.

“That is the issue that Everton face and because clubs know it, I think there are a few clubs circling thinking they can get a bargain out of Everton because they can take advantage of their financial position,” Brown went on to say.

“You have to remember that the club is currently surviving on monthly loans from a potential buyer just to keep the club running, which is an untenable situation.”

“So I think Everton will do all they can to keep hold of Braithwaite, but there is a little window of opportunity for other clubs there that I think they are trying to take advantage of.”

It cannot happen.

Everton simply cannot afford to let Branthwaite leave in January following his recent performances.

when securing a starting spot when senior players struggled to establish form in the early weeks of the season, the centre-back has played a significant role in helping the club turn around its fortunes.

It comes as no surprise that clubs are interested in signing the Englishman, who has demonstrated strength in the tackle and quality on the ball.

The Toffees have been strong at the back this season, with one of the greatest defensive records in the Premier League, as evidenced by their current run of three consecutive clean sheets.

The Blues will be hoping that the defender can continue to assist them climb the table this season in the hope that he will still be at Goodison Park at the end of the January transfer window.

In other Everton news, a journalist has expressed reservations about a permanent deal for one of the club’s loanees.
